    Abstract
In this study, a mathematical model is presented for predicting temperature and velocity fields together with dynamic and static microstructural changes during hot rod rolling utilizing a finite element model. For doing so, heat transfer and plasticity equations are coupled with the additivity rule and Avrami rate-equation to consider the dynamic and static microstructural changes as well as to evaluate the effects of temperature and strain rate variations on flow stress of rolling metal. Abstract
An ultrafine-grained Al6063/Al2O3 (0.8 vol.%, 25 nm) nanocomposite was prepared via powder metallurgy route through reactive mechanical alloying and hot powder extrusion. Scanning electron microcopy, transmission electron microscopy, and back scattered electron diffraction analysis showed that the grain structure of the nanocomposite is trimodal and composed of nano-size grains (< 0.1 μm), ultrafine grains (0.1–1 μm), and micron-size grains (> 1 μm) with random orientations. Evaluation of the mechanical properties of the nanocomposite based on the strengthening-mechanism models revealed that the yield strength of the ultrafine-grained nanocomposite is mainly controlled by the high-angle...

    Abstract
Ultrafine-grained (UFG) Al6063/Al2O3 (0.8 vol%, 25 nm) nanocomposite was prepared via powdr metallurgy route. The grain structure of the nanocomposite composed of nano-size grains (< 0.1 μm), ultrafine grains (0.1-1 μm) and micron-size grains (>1 μm) with random orientations. It was found that the yield strength of the UFG nanocomposite is mainly controlled by the Orowan mechanism rather than the grain boundaries. The deformation activation energy at temperature ranges of T <300 ˚C and 300 ˚C ≤T < 450 ˚C was determined to be 74 and 264 kJ mol-1, respectively. At the higher temperatures, significant deformation softening was observed due to dynamic recrystallization of non-equilibrium grain...

    Abstract
In this study, artificial neural network (ANN) was used to model the hot deformation behavior of 7075 aluminum alloy during compression test, in the strain rate range of 0.0003-1 s-1 and temperature range of 200-450 C. The inputs of the model were temperature, strain rate, and strain, while the output of the model was the flow stress. The feed-forward back-propagation network with two hidden layers was built and successfully trained at different deformation domains by Levenberg-Marquardt training algorithm. Comparative analysis of the results obtained from the hyperbolic sine, the power law constitutive equations, and the ANN shows that the newly developed ANN model has a better performance...

    Abstract
A mathematical model has been developed to predict stress-strain curve up to the peak stress at hot deformation. This model is based on the linear estimation of work hardening rate-stress curve up to the peak stress. This equation is expressed in terms of peak stress, peak strain. In addition, in order to find the value of peak strain, Zenner-Hollomon parameter is modified. The predicted results are found to be in accord with the experimental flow stress curves which can be used to predict the required deformation forces in hot deformation processes. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract
The hot deformation behavior of A-286 superalloy has been characterized using hot compression experiments in the temperatures between 1000 and 1100 °C and strain rates varying between 0.001 and 0.1 s-1. In addition, hot workability of this alloy has been analyzed by employing flow-localization parameter. The results show that both kinds of softening mechanism, dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization, occur during hot working, where at 1000 °C the main mechanism is dynamic recovery and at higher temperatures and strain rate of 0.001-0.01 s-1 dynamic recrystallization takes place. Calculations demonstrates that this alloy mainly have a good workability for the utilized deformation...

The effect of Cu addition on the hot deformation behavior of NiTi shape memory alloys

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 499, Issue 1 , June , 2010 , Pages 57-62 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Morakabati, M ; Kheirandish, Sh ; Aboutalebi, M ; Karimi Taheri, A ; Abbasi, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
The influence of Cu addition on the hot deformation behavior of NiTi shape memory alloys was investigated using hot compression test. A series of alloys with different Cu contents of Ti50.4Ni49.6-xCux (x = 0, 3, 5, 7 at.%) were deformed under compression to a true strain of 0.7 at the temperature range of 700-1000 °C with 100 °C intervals and constant strain rate of 0.1 s-1. The stress-strain curves showed that the addition of Cu to NiTi alloy made the flow curves shift upward. This was confirmed by the calculated critical stress, σc, obtained from inflections in θ-σ plots, which is attributed to the formation of high strength Cu containing precipitates and solid solution hardening caused by...

    Abstract
Various forms of springs are applicable, among which spiral and leaf springs can be named. Definition of leaf springs is conventionally applied to constant-width springs and is consisted of step-like leaves, each leaf having constant width. Leaf springs are largely used in vehicles, where they act as a part of suspension system supporting the weight of the vehicle along with connecting spots axles to the chassis. Springs so installed are capable of handling starting and stopping torques as well as sudden vibrations due to load carrying. Most Conventional method of manufacturing leaf springs is to bend strips of appropriate steel between curved dies, quench the strip while held between the...

Furthermore a new mathematical model has been developed to estimate the stress-strain curves beyond the peak via a secant hyperbolic function. The predicted results are found to be in accord with empirical values

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 535 , February , 2012 , Pages 216-221 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Mostafaei, M. A ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The behavior of hot extruded Al-6Mg during hot deformation has been studied using hot compression test. The tests were performed at temperatures of 350, 450, and 550°C and strain rates of 0.001, 0.1, and 1s -1. Due to the effects of friction and adiabatic heating generated during compression, the attained true stress-true strain curves have been corrected. After correction of friction effect, the virtual work hardening has been removed from stress-strain curves. The flow stress increases and reaches a steady state after correction of adiabatic heating effect. Corrected curves and microstructural examinations exhibit the occurrence of dynamic recovery during hot compression of the alloy. The...
