    Abstract
    Nanotechnology has emerged as a key technology which has opened new vistas to find effective therapies for cancer. Nanomaterials are particularly promising candidates for early diagnosis of cancer cells. Several classes of nanomaterials, including dendritic and supramolecular polymers, carbon nanotubes, graphene and metal nanoparticles, have shown tremendous ability to recognize and destroy cancer cells in vivo. In this book, some of these novel systems and their potential applications in cancer therapy are reviewed

    Abstract
    Determining the power ratio of the electric motor to the total power in parallel hybrid electric vehicles is of great importance that has a major impact on electric vehicle performance. The so-called Hybridization Factor is selected based on the desired performance indices of the vehicle. In practice, the effect of hybridization factor is observable on all the main indices of vehicle performance such as maximum speed, gradeability, pollutant emission, fuel consumption, etc. This ratio should be determined considering the desired performance indices and priorities.     Abstract
    The fracture mechanism of hybrid iPP-EPR-GF composites has been studied by notched Charpy, three- and four-point bending fracture tests. The results of impact tests illustrate that increasing both temperature and EPR/GF ratio increases the impact energy of iPP-EPR-GF. Indeed, with increasing temperature, a brittle, ductile, transition temperature (BDTT) occurs. The results of a three-point bending test show that fracture toughness (KIC) can be improved by addition of both GF and EPR. Since the trend in the fracture toughness values is close to what would be expected by the rule of blends, it can be concluded that the use of both GF and EPR has no significant synergistic effect on toughening....

    Development of hybrid cars is the most popular subject among automotive engineers both in production and research.     Abstract
    Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) encompass a wide range of compounds containing carbon–fluorine bonds. Due the strength of this bond and the high electronegativity of fluorine atoms, PFAS display stability, wettability and other characteristics that are unique for industrial applications and products. However, PFAS induce adverse effects on the environment and human health. Here we review the chemistry, synthesis, properties, analysis, occurrence in water, filtration, removal and oxydation of PFAS.     Abstract
    The production of porous (SAFFIL) preforms and SAFFIL/SiCP hybrid preforms will be discussed. SAFFIL fibers and SiCP are dispersed into an aqueous medium that consists of colloidal silica binder, distilled water, dispersants and deflocculants using agitation, spontaneous sedimentation, followed by drying and final strengthening. The effect of different process parameters such as various deflocculants and surfactants on the mechanical properties, mixing time and volumetric change of these preforms will also be investigated

Due to stochasticity of reservoir inflows, demand for energy, and unit forced outages, the uncertainty of this system is so significant that reliability of demand satisfaction becomes an indispensable component of the modelling process.     Abstract
    A dynamical hybrid observer is proposed for online reconstruction of the active mode and continuous states of Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) processes as an integral part of a hybrid control system. A mode observer is designed for estimation of the active mode, and the continuous spatial profiles are estimated by a Distributed and Decentralized Switching Kalman Filter. The proposed hybrid observer has been applied, in silico, for a two-bed, six-step PSA process. The active mode of the process along with the continuous spatial profiles of its adsorption beds have been estimated quite accurately based on very limited number of noise corrupted temperature and pressure measurements. © 2017

    Reduction of cold start hydrocarbon (HC) emission requires a proper compromise between low engine-out HC emission and fast light-off of the three way catalytic converter (TWC). In this paper a model based approach is used to design and optimize a hybrid switching system for reducing HC emission of a mid-sized passenger car during the cold start phase of FTP-75. This hybrid system takes the benefit of increasing TWC temperature during the early stages of the driving cycle by switching between different operational modes.     Abstract
    This paper introduces a new procedure to forecast the future O/D demand. It is a hybrid of logit and Fratar model. The hybrid model has the long run, policy sensitive, characteristic of a logit model, calibrated at sector-level with little/no zero O/D cells. This feature, joint with a Fratar-type operation at zonal level within a sector, gives a better performance to this model than either of the two types of the models alone. The performance of the hybrid model is contrasted with a neural network model, and shows encouraging results in a real case

    The graph colouring problem, as an important NP-complete problem, is considered in this paper and a hybrid meta-heuristic approach is developed to solve it. The initial solution of the algorithm, generated by a heuristic method, is used by a simulated annealing (SA) approach to generate new solutions until no progress in a number of solutions reported.     Copper based hybrid composites containing nano-sized silicon carbide and carbon nanotubes reinforcements with minimal porosity were fabricated via mechanical milling followed by hot pressing technique. Microstructures of the powders and consolidated materials were studied using scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and scanning transmission electron microscope.     Polycitric acid was conjugated onto the surface of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and hybrid nanomaterials containing CNT axis and polycitric acid branches that were highly soluble in aqueous solutions were synthesized.
