    , Article Journal of Propulsion and Power ; Volume 34, Issue 5 , 2018 , Pages 1178-1188 ; 07484658 (ISSN) Banazadeh, A ; Abdollahi Gol, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper discusses a novel and detailed approach for dynamic modeling and control design of a coupled hydraulic dynamometer/turbine-engine system. This study presents a comprehensive model to reveal the coupling effects and an adaptive multiobjective controller to ensure a safe and reliable operation. A fuzzy-based strategy is employed to dynamically adjust the controller gains to keep the state variables and power loading within the desirable operational limits. This approach uses the dynamometer inlet, outlet, and trim valves as well as the turbine fuel flow rate and bleed valve in order to control the system performance during the engine testing process. The proposed fuzzy control...

Economic evaluation of micro-turbines in Iranian electric industry

    , Article 2007 IEEE Lausanne POWERTECH, Lausanne, 1 July 2007 through 5 July 2007 ; 2007 , Pages 1776-1779 ; 9781424421909 (ISBN) Siahkali, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Today the electric utility industry is being restructured from monopoly and regulated structure to competitive and deregulated structure. Changes in electricity markets, in technology, economics and regulatory structures have created a new interest in small-scale generation and efficiency resources, dispersed throughout the lower voltage networks. Many reasons have been developed and encouraged using DG (Distributed Generation) in different countries such as power system restructuring, DG technologies advances and price increases. The most important problems of many developing countries is the high cost of finance and limited access to financial resources because of the electric industry is...

Design of a mechanically closed-loop test rig for testing aviation industry’s gearboxes

    , Article Aviation ; Volume 21, Issue 4 , 2017 , Pages 132-142 ; 16487788 (ISSN) Mozafari, S ; Rezazadeh Mohamadi, M ; Dolatkhah Takloo, S ; Mardani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Due to the wide usage of rotary equipment and the necessity of their testing for maintenance and repair, test rigs have become necessary. The mechanical closed-loop test rig developed in Sharif University of Technology branch of ACECR (Academic Centre of Education, Culture and Research) is a test rig with low energy losses that is suitable for testing high power gearboxes such as aerospace or wind turbine gearboxes. It can be loaded up to 489Hp at a maximum speed of 3000 rpm, and the test components can be tested in different testing conditions including a variety of torques and speeds. This paper describes the preliminary, conceptual, and detailed design, steps including frame work design,...

A novel design and performance optimization methodology for hydraulic Cross-Flow turbines using successive numerical simulations

    , Article Renewable Energy ; Volume 169 , 2021 , Pages 1402-1421 ; 09601481 (ISSN) Mehr, G ; Durali, M ; Khakrand, M. H ; Hoghooghi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper introduces a new methodology for designing and optimizing the performance of hydraulic Cross-Flow turbines for a wide range of operating conditions. The methodology is based on a one-step approach for the system-level design phase and a three-step, successive numerical analysis approach for the detail design phase. Compared to current design methodologies, not only does this approach break down the process into well-defined steps and simplify it, but it also has the advantage that once numerical simulations are conducted for a single turbine, most of the results can be used for an entire class of Cross-Flow turbines. In this paper, after a discussion of the research background, we...

Techno-economic optimization of biogas-fueled micro gas turbine cogeneration systems in sewage treatment plant

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Volume 218 , 15 August , 2020 Movahed, P ; Avami, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate the feasibility of a combined cooling, heating, and power generation system with a micro turbine using biogas as the fuel to supply the heat and electricity demands in a real wastewater treatment plant. The plant is optimized using the system's total cost rate and the amount of the produced biogas as objective functions. The anaerobic digester is modeled using the ADM1 model. The optimization variables include digester hydraulic retention time, compressor pressure ratio, isentropic compressor efficiency, recuperator pinch time temperature, turbine isentropic efficiency, turbine input temperature, and the number of micro turbines. In the first scenario...

Tuneable vibration absorber design to suppress vibrations: An application in boring manufacturing process

    , Article Journal of Sound and Vibration ; Volume 318, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 93-108 ; 0022460X (ISSN) Moradi, H ; Bakhtiari Nejad, F ; Movahhedy, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Dynamic vibration absorbers are used to reduce the undesirable vibrations in many applications such as electrical transmission lines, helicopters, gas turbines, engines, bridges, etc. Tuneable vibration absorbers (TVA) are also used as semi-active controllers. In this paper, the application of a TVA for suppression of chatter vibrations in the boring manufacturing process is presented. The boring bar is modeled as a cantilever Euler-Bernoulli beam and the TVA is composed of mass, spring and dashpot elements. In addition, the effect of spring mass is considered in this analysis. After formulation of the problem, the optimum specifications of the absorber such as spring stiffness, absorber...
