Horseradish peroxidase immobilization on amine functionalized carbon nanotubes: direct electrochemistry and bioelectrocatalysis

    , Article Progress in Reaction Kinetics and Mechanism ; Volume 37, Number 2 , 2012 , pp. 161-172 Tasviri, M. (Mahboubeh) ; Ghourchian, H. (Hedayatollah) ; Gholami, M. R. (Mohammad Reza) ; Rafieepour, H. A. (Hossain Ali) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was successfully immobilized on amine functionalized TiO2-coated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (NH2 – TiO2 – CNTs) by a convenient and efficient method. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and amperometry were applied to characterize the HRP/NH2 – TiO2 – CNT nano-composite. These techniques showed that the NH2 – TiO2 – CNTs greatly enhance the electron transfer between HRP and the modified electrode. Owing to the redox reaction of the electroactive centre of HRP, the HRP = NH2 – TiO2 – CNTs modified electrode exhibited a pair of quasi-reversible peaks with a peak-to-peak separation (ΔEp) of 70.6 mV and a formal potential (E 0′) of 367.65 mV...

    Abstract
Catalytic studies were performed to develop a simple oxidation system for olefins and sulfides using manganese(III)-tridentate Schiff base complex, Mn(N-OPh-sal)(acac)(EtOH) (N-HOPh-Hsal = N-hydroxyphenyl-salicyldienamine, Hacac = acetylacetone), and urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) as terminal oxidant. Conversions up to 90% for olefins at 0 °C and 96% for sulfides at room temperature as well as sulfoxide selectivity up to 73% were achieved in short reaction times. Also this study confirms the accelerating effect of strong π-donor axial ligands such as imidazole (ImH) on the oxidation reactions. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    , Article Journal of Molecular Catalysis A: Chemical ; Volume 260, Issue 1-2 , 2006 , Pages 163-169 ; 13811169 (ISSN) Bagherzadeh, M ; Latifi, R ; Tahsini, L ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
The catalytic activity of two manganese(III)-oxazoline complexes [Mn(phox)2(CH3OH)2]ClO4 and Mn(phox)3 (Hphox = 2-(2′-hydroxylphenyl)oxazoline), was studied in the epoxidation of various olefins. All of epoxidation reactions were carried out in (1:1) mixture of methanol:dichloromethane at room temperature using urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) as oxidant and imidazole as co-catalyst. The epoxide yields clearly demonstrate the influence of steric and electronic properties of olefins, the catalysts and nitrogenous bases as axial ligand. [Mn(phox)2(CH3OH)2]ClO4 catalyst with low steric properties has higher catalytic activity than Mn(phox)3. The highest epoxide yield (95%) was achieved for indene...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Keshavarzi, Samaneh (Author) ; Seifkordi, Ali Akbar (Supervisor) ; Bazmi, Mansour (Co-Advisor) ; Ghaedian, Maryam (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Due to increasing environmental concern, special interest has been paid to reduction of organosulfur compounds in transportaion fuels. The sulfur- containing compounds are converted into sulfur oxide, i.e, SOx , during combustion, which is a major source of acid rain and air pollution.Gas condensate is a mixture consisting primarily of pentanes and heavier hydrocarbons which is recovered as a liquid from natural gas. It is a proper hydrocarbon source for producing gasoline, kerosene and gas oil in refineries. In this reseach a gas condensate was used as feedstock for studing oxidative desulfurization (ODS). The influence of various parameters of desulforization including the reaction...

Oxidation of sulfides with urea-hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by iron-salen complexes

    , Article Journal of Sulfur Chemistry ; Volume 32, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 335-343 ; 17415993 (ISSN) Bagherzadeh, M ; Zare, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides with hydrogen peroxide in good yield and high selectivity has been catalyzed very effectively by a series of Schiff base salen-type iron complexes in a monophasic medium (CH 2Cl2/CH3OH) at ambient temperature. The results of the present study show that the reaction rate strongly depends on both catalyst steric effects and steric and electronic properties of sulfides. In the system, the electronic spectral studies are applied to explain the formation of a reactive (salen) Fe=O intermediate

    Abstract
Gelatin is a denatured protein derived from collagen by thermohydrolysis and has a rheological property of thermo reversible transformation between sol & gel. Gelatin is one of the most important biopolymers, with widespread applications in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and photographic industries. Gelatin is commercially made from skins and skeletons of bovine and porcine and mammalian gelatin has been intensively studied. However, mammalian gelatin is at risk for contamination with bovine spongiform encephalopathy and increase in demand for kosher and halal foods have created a demand for fish gelatin for food applications. Therefore, the objective of this study was to extract gelatin...

Photo-oxidation of dyes is a new concern among researchers since it offers an attractive method for decoloration of dyes and breaks them into simple mineral forms. An advanced oxidation process, UV/H2O2, was investigated in a laboratory scale photoreactor for decolorization of the Reactive blue 19 (RB19 dye from synthetic textile wastewater. The effects of operating parameters such as hydrogen peroxide dosage, pH, initial dye concentration and UV dosage, on decolorization have been evaluated. The RB19 solution was completely decolorized under optimal hydrogen peroxide dosage of 2.5 mmol L-1 and low-pressure mercury UV-C lamps (55 w) in less than 30 min. The decolorization rate followed...
