On topological polynomials of weighted graphs

    , Article Studia Universitatis Babes-Bolyai Chemia ; Issue 4 , December , 2012 , Pages 65-71 ; 12247154 (ISSN) Ghorbani, M ; Hosseinzadeh, M. A ; Diudea, M. V ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Two edges e and f of a plane graph G are in relation opposite, e op f, if they are opposite edges of an inner face of G. Relation op enables the partition the edge set of G into opposite edge strips ops. On this ground, Diudea defined Omega and Theta polynomial while Ashrafi et al. defined the Sadhana polynomial. In this paper a weighted version of these polynomials was introduced and several relations between them are demonstrated. Some molecular weights are suggested in view of using the derived topological indices in correlational studies

    , Article Filomat ; Volume 26, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 93-100 ; 03545180 (ISSN) Ghorbani, M ; Hosseinzade, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
The Zagreb indices have been introduced by Gutman and Trinajstić as M1(G) = ∑ v∈V (G) (dG(v))2 and M2(G) = ∑ uv∈E(G) dG(u)dG(v), where dG(u) denotes the degree of vertex u. We now define a new version of Zagreb indices as M1 *(G) = ∑ uv∈E(G) [εG(u) + εG(v)] and M2 * (G) = ∑ uv∈E(G) εG(u)εG(v), where εG(u) is the largest distance between u and any other vertex v of G. The goal of this paper is to further the study of these new topological index

    Continuous monitoring of safety performance

    , Article Total Safety and the Productivity Challenge ; 2019 , Pages 126-140 ; 9781351609074 (ISBN); 9781138091306 (ISBN) Amir-Heidari, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Taylor and Francis  2019
    Abstract
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are the fundamental building blocks in measuring and monitoring processes of safety management. This chapter describes a classification of safety KPIs and a review of literature leads to a new framework. It aims to develop a logical selection and aggregation methodology for generating a single number that reflects safety performance. Determining a mechanism for performance measurement and monitoring is a key part of any management system, and this has a higher importance for total safety management. Personal safety deals with the prevention of occupational accidents that usually have low severities and high frequencies. The measurement of safety has been...

Modelling of localized plastic deformation via the adaptive mesh refinement

    , Article International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation ; Volume 4, Issue 1 , 2003 , Pages 31-45 ; 15651339 (ISSN) Khoei, A. R ; Gharehbaghi, S. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2003
    Abstract
The capturing of localized plastic deformation in a Finite-element analysis is difficult as discontinuities of displacement occur and these are generally precluded in a standard displacement analysis. In this paper, an adaptive mixed finite element model is presented in the modelling of strain localization due to material instability. An h-adaptive analysis using element elongation is applied to study the prediction of localization phenomenon and evaluate the ultimate capacity of material. A remeshing strategy is employed to compute the distribution of required element size using the estimated error distribution. Once the new element size and its alignment have been indicated, an automated...

PRI (Palm Rotation Indicator): a metric for postural stability in dynamic nonprehensile manipulation [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of MECHANIKA ; 2012, Vol. 18, No. 4, pp. 461-466 Beigzadeh, B. (Borhan) ; Meghdar, Ali ; Sohrabpour, Saeed ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this study, we discuss the postural stability of a nonprehensile manipulation problem, which deals with multibody objects. As a metric for postural stability, we define PRI. Then, the system is posturally stable, if PRI is inside the convex hull of the object-manipulator contact surface. We then discuss that dynamic biped locomotion is a special case of dynamic nonprehensile manipulation in all aspects; we prove that ZMP (zero-moment point) and FRI (zoot rotation indicator) are special cases of PRI (palm rotation indicator). Simulations and experiments corresponding to simple examples support the results

Assessing the performance of energy innovation systems: towards an established set of indicators

    , Article Energy Research and Social Science ; Volume 40 , 2018 , Pages 159-176 ; 22146296 (ISSN) Miremadi, I ; Saboohi, Y ; Jacobsson, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Energy innovation is essential for tackling climate change. However, an established set of indicators, that can support policy makers in their design of policy mixes, has not been developed for evaluating the performance of energy innovation systems. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to list and classify a large set of indicators of the performance of energy innovation systems at sectoral and technological levels. 120 listed indicators are evaluated using four usefulness criteria, demonstrating significant weaknesses in the available indicators. The indicators are also classified according to an innovation process categorization to see if they cover all aspects of an innovation system...

    Abstract
In the study of chemical graph theory, an enormous number of research analyses have confirmed that the characteristics of chemicals have a nearby connection with their atomic structure. Topological indices were the critical tools for the analysis of these chemical substances to consider the essential topology of chemical structures. Topological descriptors are the significant numerical quantities or invariant in the fields of chemical graph theory. In this study, we have studied the crystal structure of copper oxide (Cu2O) chemical graph, and further, we have calculated the ev-degree-and ve-degree-based topological indices of copper oxide chemical graph. This kind of study may be useful for...

Energy Mix optimization from energy security perspective based on stochastic models

    , Article International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy ; Volume 12, Issue 1 , 2022 , Pages 1-8 ; 21464553 (ISSN) Maman, Y. K ; Maleki, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Econjournals  2022
    Abstract
As a problem, generally, energy security components do not interfere with the calculation of the optimal energy supply situation. Energy security indices so-called ‘passive indices’ cannot illustrate comprehensive optimal situation. In this paper, we are looking to find a solution to make a framework of the impact of energy security on energy supply in order to obtain comprehensive analysis of the economic optimal point. Method is based on the competition of energy costs to meet demand during the study period. Threats that have been addressed in the energy security are seen as risky and stochastic parameters in the model. The nature of these parameters is of uncertainty type, therefore,...

    Abstract
Nanomaterials are chemical compounds or substances which are moderately produced and used. Nanomaterials are engineered to reveal novel properties of nanocells that contrast with related non-visible substances, such as expanded consistency, conductivity or synthetic reaction. Topological indexes are quantities related to molecules that capture the harmony of molecular structures and give scientifically related properties, such as: viscosity, boiling point, radius of gravity, and so on. Their demands in genetics, chemistry, physics and nanoscience are infinite. The molecular topology of such compounds would be clarify by the quantitative structure properties relationship (QSPR) and...

Suitable Cost Escalation Indices for Volatile Economic Conditions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Raieszadeh, Abbas (Author) ; Mortaheb, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Under volatile economic conditions, where inflation is high and market prices of materials, labor, and equipment change unexpectedly, construction cost rise. To avoid the disruption of work, the owner may be required to compensate the contractors in a way that the excess construction cost is partially or completely covered. This compensation should be provided to the contractors in a way that is authorized by the laws and regulations under which the contract is stipulated. Hence it is essential to have the proper mechanism, for sharing the burden of cost overruns caused by unforeseen economic conditions.
In Iran, the payment scheme for the majority of the medium-and large-scale contracts...

An exponential placement method for materials selection

    , Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Volume 78, Issue 1-4 , 2015 , Pages 641-650 ; 02683768 (ISSN) Ardeshirilajimi, A ; Aghanouri, A ; Abedian, A ; Milani, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer-Verlag London Ltd  2015
    Abstract
In this paper, an innovative method is proposed for material selection. This method is based on the well-known weighting properties approach while integrating a new exponential function in the method to overcome the deficiencies of previously proposed methods. Using a maximum and minimum, in each significant aspect of the problem, for scaling, the values of material properties and achieving more realistic results by not emphasizing on any of the high and low extremes and using an exponential function that ranks the candidates regardless of their number, for improving the performance of the methodology and obtaining more absolute rankings, are some of the advantages of this method. The...

Normalized Similarity Index: An adjusted index to prioritize article citations

    , Article Journal of Informetrics ; Volume 7, Issue 1 , 2013 , Pages 91-98 ; 17511577 (ISSN) Nassiri, I ; Masoudi Nejad, A ; Jalili, M ; Moeini, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
One of the main applications of citation is to find articles that are relevant to a particular article. However, not all citations are equally relevant to the target article. This paper presents an approach to identify the most relevant citation(s). To this end, the Normalized Similarity Index (NSI) is proposed to quantify the similarity between the source and target of a citation base on the co-citations and references shared by them. To validate the method, NSI was calculated for five citation networks and was compared with the peer review grades for the relevancy between the source and the target articles. The results showed a significant correlation between the NSI ranks and those of...

Relaxation constant in the folding of thin viscoelastic sheets

    , Article Physical Review Applied ; Volume 13, Issue 1 , 2020 Farain, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    American Physical Society  2020
    Abstract
If one folds a thin viscoelastic sheet under an applied force, a line of plastic deformation is formed that shapes the sheet into an angle. This study determines parameters that define this angle and shows that, no matter how much load one applies, it is impossible to make angles less than a certain minimum angle in a definite time. Moreover, it is shown that regardless of whether the sheet is released freely afterward or kept under load, a logarithmic relaxation process follows the first deformation. The slope of this logarithm is the same in both conditions and depends neither on the applied force nor on the thickness of the sheet, which indicates that it is directly a probe of the...
