    Abstract
Herein, a novel Pt-APA composite (APA = pyridinium bromide salt) based on magnetic graphene oxide was synthesized and used as an effective catalyst. In this way, Fe3O4 nanoparticles are grown on graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets by a simple and practical method which creates a unique nanostructure (Fe3O4/GO) through dispersing uniformly among graphene nanosheets. The resulted Pt-APA composite was obtained via adding PtCl2 to an ethanol solution of Fe3O4/GO and α-keto stabilized pyridinium ylide in related conditions. The synthesized nanocomposite structure was identified using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive...

Synthesis and characterization of pure metallic titanium nanoparticles by an electromagnetic levitation melting gas condensation method

    , Article RSC Advances ; Vol. 4, issue. 14 , 2014 , pp. 7104-7108 ; ISSN: 20462069 Mohammadi, A. V ; Halali, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Pure titanium nanoparticles were synthesized by utilizing an Electromagnetic Levitation Melting Gas Condensation (ELM-GC) method. Pure bulk titanium samples were melted and evaporated by electromagnetic levitation technique in an inert gas atmosphere in a silica tube. Titanium nanoparticles were formed from ascending vapor by employing high purity argon and helium as carrier gases and cooling agents. Particle size and morphology of the produced nanoparticles were studied by Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) analysis. Results showed almost spherical nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution under both cooling atmospheres. The purity of...

Effects of ion-exchange and hydrolysis mechanisms on lead silicate glass corrosion

    , Article Corrosion ; Volume 68, Issue 9 , September , 2012 , Pages 793-800 ; 00109312 (ISSN) Ali Rahimi, R ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Corrosion of lead silicate glass (LSG) contacting 0.5 M aqueous nitric acid (HNO 3) was investigated via scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma analysis, and weight-loss measurement to determine the respective contributions of the ion-exchange vs. the hydrolysis reactions. The LSG having X M ≡ Pb+K+Na/Si mole ratios of less than 0.7 showed very little weight loss with no Si network deterioration. At X M > 0.7, the mechanism changed into the hydrolysis, which caused the formation of a networkless gel layer resting at the solid/liquid interface. Addition of titania (TiO 2) and zirconia (ZrO 2) had disparate effects: X M < 0.7 improved corrosion...

Hydrothermal synthesis of CuO nanoparticles: Study on effects of operational conditions on yield, purity, and size of the nanoparticles

    , Article Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research ; Volume 50, Issue 6 , February , 2011 , Pages 3540-3554 ; 08885885 (ISSN) Outokesh, M ; Hosseinpour, M ; Ahmadi, S. J ; Mousavand, T ; Sadjadi, S ; Soltanian, W ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Hydrothermal synthesis of CuO nanoparticles under near-critical and supercritical conditions was investigated from two different standpoints in the current study. The first standpoint was optimization of "yield", "purity", and "size of the nanoparticles" that were optimized at T = 500 °C, time = 2 h, [Cu(NO3)2] = 0.1 mol dm-3, and pH 3. This was achieved by undertaking an orthogonal experiment design methodology and performing different instrumental analyses, such as X-ray diffractometry, inductively coupled plasma spectrometry, and transmission electron microscopy, along with treatment of the data by analysis of variance (ANOVA). The second goal of the study was elucidation of the...

    Abstract
Nickel-Boron-Titania (Ni-B-TiO2) composite coatings were successfully obtained on mild steel (St-37) by simultaneous electroless deposition. TiO2 particles were dispersed in a suspension by ultrasonic irradiation. The surface morphology, particle size, elemental composition and phase analysis of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The hardness and friction coefficient of as- plated and heat treated Ni-B and Ni-B-TiO2 composite coatings were determined by Vickers diamond indentation and indentation scratch tests and compared with Ni-B coatings. As a result, the hardness (1263 HV) of the as-plated...

    , Article Materials Research Bulletin ; Volume 95 , 2017 , Pages 532-538 ; 00255408 (ISSN) Zare, H ; Ghalkhani, M ; Akhavan, O ; Taghavinia, N ; Marandi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Highly sensitive nickel sensor based on repeatable fluorescence quenching-emerging mechanism was developed. Highly luminescent thioglycolic acid capped CdTe nanocrystals in aqueous solution were applied as the fluorescence probe. These nanocrystals represented a considerable photoluminescence quantum yield as high as 61%. The florescence was quenched by addition of Ni ions to the CdTe nanocrystals solution. Then it was recovered by injection of the proper amount of dimethylglyoxime as the releasing reagent. The relative fluorescence intensity (F0/F) was linearly proportional to the concentration of nickel ions in the range of 0.01–10 μM, with detection limit as low as 7 nM. Described method...

    Abstract
In this research effects of important synthesis parameters upon catalytic performance of a novel graphene based catalyst for an HDS reaction were investigated. The graphene oxide (GO) used as a support was initially prepared through chemical exfoliation of graphite via modified Hummers method. In this venue the impregnation method, promoter/main metallic spices ratio, total metal loading of the active phase and amount of chelating agent were systematically understudied. Thus, GO was impregnated with active metallic phases through the hydrothermal and modified incipient wetness impregnation techniques. In both procedures, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 weight ratios of Co/Mo with the percentages of the...

This method is green, and the catalyst is easily removed from the reaction media using an external magnetic field and can be re-used at least 10 times without any considerable loss in its activity. The catalyst was characterized using scanning and transmission electron microscopies, thermogravimetric analysis, inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, CHN analysis,...

The XRD test revealed that the main characteristic peaks of ZIF-8 were eliminated and/or their intensity decreased. In accordance with the obtained data from the XRD test, nanoparticles at pH = 2 had been...

    Abstract
In this study, a new polymeric functionalized magnetic nanocatalyst containing a molybdenum Schiff base complex was prepared using a few consecutive steps. Poly (methylacrylate)-coated magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized via radical polymerization of methyl acrylate onto modified magnetic nanoparticles followed by the amidation of the methyl ester groups with hydrazine. Polymeric functionalization efficiently provides the advantage that more catalytic units can be grafted on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles. The functionalization process was continued with salicylaldehyde which introduced Schiff base groups on to the surface of the polymeric support. In the final step, the desired...
