, Article Proceedings of the ASME Turbo Expo ; Volume 4, Pages 537-546 , 2006 Tabari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Advanced gas turbine cycles use advanced blade cooling technologies to reach high turbine inlet temperature. Accurate modeling and optimization of these cycles depend on blade cooling model. In this study, different models have been used to simulate gas turbine performance. The first model is the continuous model and the second is stage-by-stage model with alternative methods for calculating coolant, stagnation pressure loss and SPR. Variation of specific heat and enthalpy with temperature are included in both models. The composition of gas stream in turbine is changed step by step due to air cooling. These models are validated by two case study gas turbine results, which show good agreement...

    Abstract
The aim of this work is to analyze the gas flow in high pressure buried pipelines subjected to wall friction and heat transfer. The governing equations for one-dimensional compressible pipe flow are derived and solved numerically. The effects of friction, heat transfer from the wall and inlet temperature on various parameters such as pressure, temperature, Mach number and mass flow rate of the gas are investigated. The numerical scheme and numerical solution was confirmed by some previous numerical studies and available experimental data. The results show that the rate of heat transfer has not a considerable effect on inflow Mach number, but it can reduce the choking length in larger f DL/D...

    Abstract
The solar collectors absorb solar irradiation and then produce thermal energy; however, they cannot generate electrical power. Electricity and thermal energy can be produced by the photovoltaic thermal module, simultaneously, while the outlet temperature of the photovoltaic thermal module is not usually high enough to provide thermal requirements of a building such as hot water or space heating. This work proposes a novel compound system created by the connection of a solar collector in series with a photovoltaic thermal module to resolve the issue of low outlet temperature in the photovoltaic thermal module and lack of electrical power in solar collectors. To examine the feasibility of this...

    Abstract
In this study, a fixed-bed catalytic membrane reactor was used for the production of ethylene and cyclohexane from ethane and benzene. A two-dimensional non-isothermal mathematical model was used for estimating the performance of the membrane reactor. Furthermore, the effect of inlet temperature (720–1080 K), feed molar ratio (3–10) and the reactor spacetime (1–76 kgCat.s/mol) was studied on the conversion of ethane to ethylene and benzene to cyclohexane. The results of modeling showed that with the increase of inlet temperature the conversion of both (de)-hydrogenation reactions increased and the 95% of ethane conversion was achieved when the molar ratio of benzene/ethane was fixed on 3....

Variational formulation on Joule heating in combined electroosmotic and pressure driven microflows

    , Article International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer ; Volume 61, Issue 1 , June , 2013 , Pages 254-265 ; 00179310 (ISSN) Sadeghi, A ; Saidi, M. H ; Waezi, Z ; Chakraborty, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
The present study attempts to analyze the extended Graetz problem in combined electroosmotic and pressure driven flows in rectangular microchannels, by employing a variational formulation. Both the Joule heating and axial conduction effects are taken into consideration. Since assuming a uniform inlet temperature profile is not consistent with the existence of these effects, a step change in wall temperature is considered to represent physically conceivable thermal entrance conditions. The method of analysis considered here is primarily analytical, in which series solutions are presented for the electrical potential, velocity, and temperature. For general treatment of the eigenvalue problem...

    Abstract
In this investigation, a reactor model for prediction of the deactivation behavior of MTO's porous catalyst in a fixed bed reactor is developed. Effect of coking on molecular transport in the porous structure of SAPO-34 has been simulated using the percolation theory. Thermal effects of the reaction were considered in the model and the temperature profile of the gas stream in the reactor was predicted. The predicted loss in catalyst activity with time-on-stream was in very good agreement with the experimental data. The resulting coke deposition and gas temperature profiles along the length of reactor suggested a reaction front moving toward the outlet of the fixed bed reactor at the...
