    Abstract
Accurate power factor definitions are of great importance for industries due to the fact that they affect the billing strategy. They also considerably affect the generation and distribution losses of the power system. At the moment, there are some ambiguities in power definitions to be used for this purpose. In recent years, because of a rapid growth in industry and the use of variable loads such as electrical furnaces and variable speed motors, there is a need for fast compensators that are capable of tracking load changes. One of these facilities is TSC, a capacitor bank that is controlled by static switches (thyristors). In this paper, the performance of these compensators in power factor...

    , Article International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications ; Volume 49, Issue 2 , 2021 , Pages 221-243 ; 00989886 (ISSN) Sabahi, M ; Tarzamni, H ; Kolahian, P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a new interleaved DC–DC converter based on a coupled and a single input inductor is proposed. The suggested high step-up converter utilizes various inductive and capacitive methods to transfer magnetic energy more efficiently. The output voltage is regulated with the switches' duty cycle and the coupled inductor (CI) turns ratio, which provide a wide output voltage range. Interleaving improves the converter reliability, employs both the first and third areas of CI's B-H plane, cancels DC component of the CI, and reduces the input current ripple of the proposed converter with twice switching frequency. Utilization of two output ports for voltage stress and ripple reduction in...

    Abstract
A low voltage current mode sample and hold (S/H) in 0.18μm technology with 1.5v supply voltage is presented. This S/H has 12-bit linearity, i.e., gain and nonlinearity errors of S/H are less than 0.02μA for 100uA input current. Maximum sampling rate for this structure is 100 MHz (using double sampling technique). © 2005 IEEE

    Abstract
A novel control method is proposed for single-stage three-phase isolated buck+boost rectifier. The control method is based on the conventional cascade two-loop control structure and is modified to achieve constant instantaneous input power. Input voltages, output voltage, and DC-link inductor current are measured to control the power switches to achieve output voltage regulation as well as input power factor correction. In the proposed method, input currents are controlled such that input power is constant even for unbalanced mains. Thus for balanced mains converter behaves like an ideal rectifier, and for unbalanced mains, low-frequency harmonics of the output voltage are suppressed. The...

    Abstract
This paper is dealing with single phase PWM rectifier parameter optimization. A control loop has been designed to attain a suitable output DC voltage with minimum ripple, input current with minimum harmonic and maximum input power factor. In this paper these parameters have been optimized by using Genetic algorithm. To verify the effectiveness of proposed optimization, different simulations have been done. The simulation results prove that the proposed system working good

    Abstract
Conventional back-to-back converters with input power factor correction are still the best solution for motor drive applications which are usually subjected to considerable load changes during their operation. Since converter components, especially input-side inductances are designed for nominal power rating, the rated input power factor and input current distortion aren't achievable in light loads. In this paper a control method is proposed to improve the input current distortion and input power factor in light loads. This is achieved by increasing the switching frequency according to the reduction in load. Since conduction and switching losses decrease in light loads, the overall losses by...

    Abstract
A single-stage structure is proposed for realizing a unity power factor three-phase isolated AC-DC converter for telecommunication power supply modules. This structure is composed by integrating a boost converter to the isolated threephase three-switch buck rectifier. Modified space vector modulation method is applied to the three-phase three-switch isolated unity power factor input buck rectifier based on the space vector modulation for non-isolated buck. The output boost switch operates during heavily unbalanced mains conditions. Input currents are sinusoidal and in phase with the input voltages even for heavily unbalanced input voltages, e.g. loss of one phase. The converter is modeled by...

    Abstract
In this paper CCM/CVM operation and modeling of the Sheppard-Taylor topology is reviewed and a predictive control strategy is applied for a Sheppard-Taylor-based power factor correction (PFC) rectifier. Compared to conventional boost or buck - boost PFC's, this topology allows a better current tracking at the AC side, with a relatively reduced voltage at the DC side. Consequently, the high frequency AC filters required by the buck PECs are avoided, and the voltage stresses on the boost switches are significantly reduced. Furthermore In predictive control strategy the duty cycle required to achieve unity power factor in a half line period can be calculated in advance. The main advantage of...

    Abstract
PFC converters for higher power are commonly designed for continuous conduction mode (CCM). However, at light load, discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) will appear close to the crossover of the line voltage, causing the converter to switch between the two conduction modes. As a result, the converter dynamics change abruptly, producing input current distortion. In this article a piecewise affine approximation has been employed in modeling a boost power factor correction converter operated in the mixed conduction mode. This approach makes the new model very useful in large signal analysis of PFC rectifiers and design of controller. The results obtained from the proposed model are compared with...
