Nonlocal vibration and pull-in instability analysis of electrostatic carbon-nanotube based NEMS devices

    , Article Sensors and Actuators, A: Physical ; Volume 266 , 2017 , Pages 185-196 ; 09244247 (ISSN) Bornassi, S ; Haddadpour, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The objective of this paper is to investigate dynamical pull-in behavior of an electrostatic actuated nano-device based on Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory. The Euler–Bernoulli beam model is used to establish the dynamic equation of motion of the nano-device subjected to both electrostatic and intermolecular forces. The nanobeam is considered with axially immovable ends and the geometrically nonlinearity due to mid-plane stretching is incorporated to the model as well. A new intermolecular attractive force model based on the macroscopic interactions of a circular cross section nanobeam and a flat surface is presented for the carbon nanotube based nano-device. The nonlinear static...

    Abstract
Solvatochromic UV-vis shifts of three probes 4-nitroaniline, 4-nitroanisol, and Reichardt's dye in binary mixtures of polyethylene glycol p-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)-phenyl ether (Triton X-100 or TX-100) with methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, and water have been investigated at 298 K. Structural and intermolecular interactions of solvatochromic probes were determined in these systems. Solvatochromic parameters, including normalized polarity (ETN), dipolarity-polarizability (π∗), hydrogen-bond donor (α), and hydrogen-bond acceptor (β) abilities, were measured at a wide range of mole fraction (0 ≤ X ≤ 1) with 0.1 increment. Interestingly, a similar behavior of ETN and α is observed in...

    Abstract
Two new heteronuclear Nickel(II)/Sodium(I) complexes of a side-off compartmental Schiff base ligand were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Crystal structures of both of the complexes were also obtained. The Schiff base ligand was synthesized from the condensation of meso-1,2-diphenyl-1,2-ethylenediamine with 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde. In both of the complexes the Ni(II) ion is coordinated to the inner N2O2 coordination sphere with square-planar geometry and the Na(I) ion is coordinated to the outer O2O2′ coordination sphere. In Complex (1) with general formula [Ni(L)Na(CH3OH)(ClO4)] the sodium ion is seven coordinated while in (2) with general formula...

Conformation of repaglinide: a solvent dependent structure

    , Article Journal of Molecular Structure ; Volume 1143 , 2017 , Pages 388-396 ; 00222860 (ISSN) Chashmniam, S ; Tafazzoli, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Experimental and theoretical conformational study of repaglinide in chloroform and dimethyl sulfoxide was investigated. By applying potential energy scanning (PES) at B3LYP/6-311++g** and B3LYP-D3/6-311++g** level of theory on rotatable single bonds, four stable conformers (R1-R4) were identified. Spin-spin coupling constant values were obtained from a set of 2D NMR spectra (H[sbnd]H COSY, H[sbnd]C HMQC and H[sbnd]C HMBC) and compared to its calculated values. Interestingly, from 1HNMR and 2D-NOESY NMR, it has been found that repaglinide structure is folded in CDCl3 and cause all single bonds to rotate at an extremely slow rate. On the other hand, in DMSO-d6, with strong solvent-solute...

    Abstract
In this study, several new complexes of [Re(CO3)(DAB)X] (X= OTf, H2O) were synthesized. These complexes include [Re(CO)3(2,4-Me2DAB)(OTf)] (1), [Re(CO)3(2,4,6-Me3DAB)(H2O)]OTf (2), [Re(CO)3(2,6-isoDAB)(OTf)] (3) & [Re(CO)3(2,4-Me2DAB(Me))(H2O)]OTf (4). In order to characterize the geometric arrangement of these compounds, different kinds of spectroscopy methods include...

    Abstract
Structural and intermolecular interactions of solvatochromic probes 4-nitroaniline, 4-nitroanisole, and Reichardt’s dye were investigated in the binary mixtures of 2-hydroxy ethylammonium formate as an ionic liquid with N,N-dimethyl formamide, dimethyl amine, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Solvatochromic parameters (ETN, normalized polarity parameter; π*, dipolarity/polarizability; β, hydrogen-bond acceptor basicity; α, hydrogen -bond donor acidity) were determined in ionic liquid mixtures at 25 °C using UV−vis spectroscopy. ETN parameters obtained from absorbance of Reichardt’s dye within various mixtures of ionic liquid were observed to be higher than predicted values from ideal additive...

    Abstract
ZnO was grown on mordenite zeolite, activated carbon and alumina substrates by a liquid deposition method. The photocatalytic activity of the synthesised samples was elucidated using the photodegradation of Acid Blue 92 (AB92) dyes as a test pollutant under UV light irradiation. Supports play a key role in AB92 photodegradation and significantly improve the photocatalytic activity of ZnO. Different supports form additional transport channels and provide an effective pathway for the charge carriers. The supports effectively construct porous structures with more active sites. Hence, the higher photocatalytic activity of supported catalysts is attributed to the large surface area and charge...

    Abstract
Carbon nanocapsules doped separately with epoxy and polyamine were used to fabricate an epoxy nanocomposite coating. Carbon nanospheres with dual-encapsulated epoxy/polyamine were dispersed uniformly in the epoxy resin at concentrations of 2, 5, and 10 wt %. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were studied by tensile testing and scratch hardness measurements. Furthermore, nanocomposites were applied on mild steel substrates, and their corrosion protection and barrier performance were evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Adhesion loss measurements of coatings after 240 h exposure to 3.5 wt % NaCl solution were performed by pull-off adhesion testing. Also,...

    Abstract
Hydrogels made of natural polymers [chitosan (CS) and gelatin (G)] have been prepared having mechanical properties similar to those of muscle tissues. In this study, the effect of polymer concentration and scaffold stiffness on the behavior of seeded muscle-derived cells (MDCs) on the CS-G hydrogel sheets has been evaluated. Both variables were found to be important in cell viability. Viability was assessed by observation of the cell morphology after 1 day as well as a 14-day MTT assay. The CS-G hydrogels were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis, which revealed evidences of strong intermolecular interactions between CS and G. Hydrogel samples with intermediate...
