Modeling the Burst Pressure of Offshore Pipelines with Extensive Internal Corrosion in the Free Span

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samadi Mal Amiri, Farzam (Author) ; Raie, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Internal corrosion is one of the most common defects in pipelines. In recent decades, the use of offshore natural oil and gas resources has increased dramatically, followed by the use of offshore pipelines to transport products. At the same time, numerous accidents and explosions in offshore pipelines and their economic and environmental consequences underscore the importance of ensuring safe operation. Pipeline integrity management has been developed to ensure the safe and correct operation of pipelines. Integrity management starts with planning, then leads to inspection, then evaluation, and finally to corrective action, and this loop is repeated regularly. In this loop, the importance of...

    Abstract
Defect detection in pipes is an essential task specially for sensitive applications such as oil and gas industry where special cares are required. Corrosion is a common defect in pipes which has attracted attention of researchers. In present work a non-destructive methodology for pipe corrosion monitoring is introduced. Polymer of Vinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) Piezoelectric is used as the sensor to measure strain variations affected by internal corrosion. High sensitivity and low cost of piezoelectric materials made them a good candidate for precise industrial applications. Different corrosion conditions (i.e. corrosion location along pipe and corrosion depth) are modeled and sensors voltages...

Investigation on corrosion stratigraphy and morphology in some iron age bronze alloys vessels by OM, XRD and SEM–EDS methods

    , Article Applied Physics A: Materials Science and Processing ; Volume 122, Issue 4 , 2016 ; 09478396 (ISSN) Oudbashi, O ; Hasanpour, A ; Davami, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The recently study of the corrosion in some bronze artefacts from the Sangtarashan Iron Age site, western Iran, was established to identify corrosion morphology and mechanism in these objects. The corrosion layers in 22 samples were studied by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction methods. The results showed that a thin corrosion crust has formed on the surface of bronzes with a triple-layer structure, including two internal and one external corrosion layers. The formation of these layers is due to copper leaching from the bronze surface. The internal corrosion part has been a compact, tin-rich corrosion/oxidation product...
