An experimental design approach to determine effects of the operating parameters on the rate of Ru promoted Ir carbonylation of methanol

    , Article World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology ; Volume 73 , March , 2011 , Pages 598-603 ; 2010376X (ISSN) Hosseinpour, V ; Kazemini, M ; Mohammadrezaee, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
carbonylation of methanol in homogenous phase is one of the major routesfor production of acetic acid. Amongst group VIII metal catalysts used in this process iridium has displayed the best capabilities. To investigate effect of operating parameters like: temperature, pressure, methyl iodide, methyl acetate, iridium, ruthenium, and water concentrations on the reaction rate, experimental design for this system based upon central composite design (CCD) was utilized. Statistical rate equation developed by this method contained individual, interactions and curvature effects of parameters on the reaction rate. The model with p-value less than 0.0001 and R 2 values greater than 0.9; confirmeda...

Effect of anode compositions on the current efficiency of zinc electrowinning

    , Article Proceedings - European Metallurgical Conference, EMC 2011 ; Volume 2 , 2011 , Pages 387-396 ; 9783940276377 (ISBN) Dashti, S ; Rashchi, F ; Vahidi, E ; Emami, M ; Khoshnevisan, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The main goals in zinc electrowinning process are decreasing of power consumption and increasing of current efficiency. The purpose of this research was to investigate effect of different alloy compositions used in production of lead-based anodes on the zinc electrowinning process. The anode compositions prepared and examined in this study were binary alloys Pb - (0.5 and 2 %) Ag and quaternary alloys Pb - 0.5 % Ag - 1 % Ca - 2 % Sn, Pb - 0.5 % Ag - 1 % Ca - 1 % Sn - 1 % Sb and Pb - 0.5 % Ag - 1 % Ca - 1 % Sn - 1 % Bi. The electrowinning experiments were conducted using a laboratory-scale apparatus, at a plating time of 4 hours, a current density of 500 to 1000 A/m2, industrial zinc sulfate...

Comprehensive study of asphaltene precipitation due to gas injection: Experimental investigation and modeling

    Abstract
Asphaltene precipitation during natural depletion and miscible gas injection is a common problem in oilfields throughout the world. In this work, static precipitation tests are conducted to investigate effect of pressure, temperature and gas type and concentration on asphaltene instability. Three different oil samples are studied under reservoir conditions with/without nitrogen and methane injection. Besides applying common thermodynamic models, a new scaling equation is presented to predict asphaltene precipitation under HPHT gas injection. Published data from literature are also used in model development. The scaling approach is attractive because it is simple and complex asphaltene...

The effect of different light intensities and light/dark regimes on the performance of photosynthetic microalgae microbial fuel cell

    , Article Bioresource Technology ; Volume 261 , 2018 , Pages 350-360 ; 09608524 (ISSN) Bazdar, E ; Roshandel, R ; Yaghmaei, S ; Mardanpour, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This study develops a photosynthetic microalgae microbial fuel cell (PMMFC) engaged Chlorella vulgaris microalgae to investigate effect of light intensities and illumination regimes on simultaneous production of bioelectricity, biomass and wastewater treatment. The performance of the system under different light intensity (3500, 5000, 7000 and 10,000 lx) and light/dark regimes (24/00, 12/12, 16/8 h) was investigated. The optimum light intensity and light/dark regimes for achieving maximum yield of PMMFC were obtained. The maximum power density of 126 mW m−3, the coulombic efficiency of 78% and COD removal of 5.47% were achieved. The maximum biomass concentration of 4 g l−1 (or biomass yield...
