Investigation of ionic liquids based on pyridinium and imidazolium as interfacial tension reducer of crude Oil−water and their synergism with MgCl2

    , Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Volume 171 , 2018 , Pages 414-421 ; 09204105 (ISSN) Lashkarbolooki, M ; Ayatollahi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) can be tailored as chemical surfactants and surface active agents to reduce the interfacial tension (IFT) of crude oil/aqueous solutions for enhanced oil recovery processes. The current investigation was aimed to explore the nature of ingenious active agents in crude oil, including asphaltene and resin, and their possible interactions with two families of ILs, namely pyridinium and imidazolium, on the IFT of crude oil/aqueous solutions, both in the presence and absence of MgCl2. To the best of our knowledge, the effect of crude oil type on the IFT of crude oil/aqueous solution containing salts and IL has not been ever investigated. Accordingly, IFTs of light, medium and...

Effect of mono-vacant defects on the opto-electronic properties of ionic liquid functionalized hexagonal boron-nitride nanosheets

    , Article Journal of Molecular Liquids ; Volume 249 , 2018 , Pages 1172-1182 ; 01677322 (ISSN) Shakourian Fard, M ; Bayat, A ; Kamath, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
We compare and contrast the physisorption behavior of imidazolium and butyltrimethylammonium based ionic liquids (ILs) on mono-vacant nitrogen and boron defective hexagonal boron nitride nanoflakes (h-BNNF) using M06-2X/cc-pVDZ level of theory. The presence of defects on the nanoflakes results in an increase in IL binding energy by ~ 1–27 kcal/mol partly due to the lowering of the energy band in the defective nanoflakes. Imidazolium based ILs adsorb energetically more favorably on h-BNNF-VB than on h-BNNF-VN while butyltrimethylammonium based ILs prefer to adsorb on h-BNNF-VN. Upon adsorption of imidazolium ILs on the nanoflakes, an increase in both HOMO and LUMO orbital energies is observed...

Insights on the speed of sound in ionic liquid binary mixtures: Investigation of influential parameters and construction of predictive models

    , Article Journal of Molecular Liquids ; Volume 326 , 2021 ; 01677322 (ISSN) Sahandi, P. J ; Salimi, M ; Iranshahi, D ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2021
    Abstract
Relative novelty and wide functionality of ionic liquids (ILs) have led to a surge in the studies devoted to experimental determination of their physicochemical properties. Systematic collection and analysis of the available data and development of predictive models to address the extreme diversity of IL systems are of great value in this regard. In the present work, the significance of speed of sound in ILs and their mixtures was outlined and related theoretical concepts were surveyed. A comprehensive database was utilized for the construction of predictive models based on least square support vector machine. By constructing four different models, the influence of temperature, molecular...

Ionic liquids enhanced performance of PVC gels actuator

    , Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 138, Issue 29 , 2021 ; 00218995 (ISSN) Ali, I ; Latif, A ; Hussain, K ; Shehzad, F. K ; Ali, A ; Faisal, R ; Xudong, L ; Dias, O. A. T ; Weimin, Y ; Haoyi, L ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Stimulated devices are highly demanded for actuators and artificial muscles in the recent era but susceptible to low deformation at an applied voltage. In the present work, ionic liquids (ILs) based gel films were prepared from the polyvinyl chloride (PVC), dibutyl adipate (DBA), 1-butyl, 3-methimidazolium chloride, and 1-pentyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate by a simple solvent evaporation method. The structural, morphological, optical, and mechanical properties of the composite PVC/ILs gel were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Large Angle X-ray scattering (LAXS), UV–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectroscopy, scanning electron micrpscopy (SEM) and...
