Hollow structures show both light scattering and light trapping, which makes them promising for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications. In this work, nanoparticulate hollow TiO 2 fibers are prepared by layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly deposition of TiO 2 nanoparticles on natural cellulose fibers as template, followed by thermal removal of the template. The effect of LbL parameters such as the type and molecular weight of polyelectrolyte, number of dip cycles, and the TiO 2 dispersion (amorphous or crystalline sol) are investigated. LbL deposition with weak polyelectrolytes (polyethylenimine, PEI) gives greater nanoparticle deposition yield compared to strong polyelectrolytes...

Smart multilayered pH-sensitive nanocapsules were successfully fabricated using a Layer by Layer (LbL) process. The obtained products were characterized using FESEM, TEM, EDS and elemental mapping, zeta-potential, FTIR, TGA, SIMS and the Tafel polarization techniques. A 55% enhancement in ZrO2 particle size was detected in FESEM and TEM images with a corona view after the LbL process. EDS and elemental mapping analysis and measurements of zeta potential indicated the well-defined layered deposition. FTIR showed the electrostatic bonding between tolyltriazole (TTA) molecules and different overlapping layers. The thermal analysis and SIMS confirmed that 2.7% TTA loaded in nanocapsules. Tafel...

In this thesis a smart anticorrosive pH-responsive coat was developed with layer by layer (LbL) technique in the assembly of SiO2/CTAB/PSS/HMTA/PSS/PEI/PSS. SiO2 nanoparticles were prepared from Matland Company (Iran) with average size of 24 nm. At first, the corrosion inhibition of HMTA for API 5L Grade B steel in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution was investigated. Tafel polarization technique showed the optimum concentration of HMTA was 0.08 M with 92% corrosion inhibition efficiency as the morphology of coverage and adsorption on the steel surface was confirmed by SEM and EDS. AFM results showed the roughness of the surface decreased from 241 nm to 56 nm that is attributed to HMTA adsorption on the...

Multi-layer schemes have been proposed for steganography. Also some authors have combined these methods with the idea of wet paper codes and gained higher embedding efficiency. This paper proposes a generalized multi-layer method for wet paper embedding. First, the cover bits are divided into blocks and, by combining these bits in groups of 3, a pyramid is formed. Next, the secret message is embedded through a layer-by-layer procedure. The proposed method has higher embedding efficiency in some cases and provides more flexibility for choosing the embedding payload, especially in lower payload conditions

The electrodeposition of cobalt, nickel and Ni-Co alloys was studied by electrochemical techniques. Cyclic voltammetry and current transient measurements were used to characterize the Co-Ni system in other to obtain the nucleation and growth mechanism. The cyclic voltammetry results clearly showed that electrodeposition of cobalt, nickel and Co-Ni alloy is diffusion-controlled process with a typical nucleation mechanism. The redox potentials of the Co and Ni are shifted to more cathodic potentials in the Co-Ni alloy system. In addition, the current transients revealed that nucleation mechanism is instantaneous with a typical three-dimensional (3D) nucleation and growth process. The number of...
Growth of Polymer/TiO2 Nanostructures by Layer-by-Layer Self Assembly Method as Electrodes of Photoelectrochemical Cells, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Taghavinia, Nima ; Shahrokhian, Saeed
Dye sensitized solar cells (DSCs) are among the 3rd generation solar cells which their mechanism of light absorption is similar to chlorophyll in green leafs and is based on photo-excitation of dyes. The electron-hole pairs of photo-excited dye separate at the interface of mesoporous semiconductor-dye-electrolyte. One of the approaches to increase the light path length and therefore the light harvesting efficiency in DSC is the addition of light scatterers inside the mesoporous semiconductor (photoanode). In this research, nanoparticulated hollow TiO2 fibers are introduced as novel light scatterers in DSCs with simultaneous light scattering, light trapping and high surface area. Light...
Bond strength and mechanical properties of three-layered St/AZ31/St composite fabricated by roll bonding, Article Materials and Design ; Volume 88 , 2015 , Pages 880-888 ; 02641275 (ISSN) ; Akbarzadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
The aim of this research is bonding of three-layered St/AZ31/St composite by roll-bonding process. The roll-bonding process was performed at three preheating temperatures, 340, 400 and 450°C, with thickness reduction of 30 to 68% and different thicknesses of intermediate layer (AZ31). In order to improve the bonding strength, the as-rolled specimens were annealed at constant temperature of 375°C. For evaluation of bond strength and investigating the formation of a diffusion layer, the results of peel test and microscopic images were studied. Tensile specimens were prepared along the rolling direction to measure the mechanical properties of the composite. The results showed that by increasing...
An Implicit Algorithm for Numerical Simulation of Large Deformation Structures with Incompressible Fluid Flow, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Darbandi, Masoud
The fluid structure interaction (FSI) problems are widely encountered in many industrial applications in mechanical, aerospace, biomedical, marine, and wind engineering. The main contributions of this research are focused on simulating flow with moving or deforming boundaries including FSI problems with large movement or deformations. In this regard, a hybrid finite-element-volume (FEV) method was used in an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) framework. In this research, a new layer-by-layer mesh movement strategy was developed to perform the unstructured grid movement more robustly. This strategy converts the complex data structure of an unstructured grid to a simple quasi-structured data...
Effects of structural configuration on vibration control of smart laminated beams under random excitations, Article Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology ; Volume 24, Issue 5 , 2010 , Pages 1119-1125 ; 1738494X (ISSN) ; Sharif University of Technology
The influence of structural configuration on vibration responses of smart laminated beams under random loading is studied. The effect of laminate configurations and locations of sensors/actuators in the smart system is also investigated. The layer-wise approximation for displacement and electric potential is utilized to construct the finite element model. The closed-loop control response is determined through an optimal control algorithm based on the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). The correlation coefficient between the input random force and the applied actuating voltage for various configurations is also computed. It is revealed that for softer configurations, the correlation...
Layer-by-layer self assembly deposition and characterization of TiO 2 nanoparticles by using a short chain polycation, Article EPJ Applied Physics ; Volume 48, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 10602p1-10602p7 ; 12860042 (ISSN) ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharif University of Technology
Using low molecular weight polyethylenimine (PEI), transparent thin films of TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by layer-by-layer self assembly method. UV-visible spectrophotometry was employed in a quantitative manner to monitor the adsorbed mass of TiO2 and PEI after each dip cycle. The adsorption of both TiO2 and PEI showed a saturation dip time of 10 min. The effect of dip time on the growth mode and surface morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and non-contact atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was found that growth proceeds in the form of laterally broad islands in case of short dip times, and taller but laterally smaller islands in case of longer dip times. A...

S ; Sharif University of Technology
A promising electrochemical sensor was developed based on a layer by layer process by electro-polymerization of pyrrole in the presence of new coccine (NC) as dopant anion on the surface of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) pre-coated glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The modified electrode was used as a new and sensitive electrochemical sensor for voltammetric determination of sumatriptan (SUM). The electrochemical behavior of SUM was investigated on the surface of the modified electrode using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). The results showed a remarkable increase (∼12 times) in the anodic peak current of SUM in comparison to the bare GCE. The effect of experimental variables such...
Electrochemical determination of l-dopa in the presence of ascorbic acid on the surface of the glassy carbon electrode modified by a bilayer of multi-walled carbon nanotube and poly-pyrrole doped with tiron, Article Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry ; Volume 636, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 40-46 ; 15726657 (ISSN) ; Asadian, E ; Sharif University of Technology
There are high attractions in the development of conducting polymer (CP) coatings to improve the electrochemical properties and biocompatibility of electrodes in the area of biosensors. A new type of the modified electrodes is prepared in a layer-by-layer process by using multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and poly-pyrrole. In this procedure, the glassy carbon electrode is casted by a drop suspension of MWCNT, which leads to form a thin film of nanotube on its surface. In the second step, electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole in the presence of tiron (used as doping anion) is performed on the surface of the MWCNT pre-coated electrode. The modification procedure led to fabrication of a...
