Rayleigh Waves Propagation in a Piezoelectric Layered Half-space with Imperfect Interface

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheikh Bagher Mohajer, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Eskandari, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The problem of the Rayleigh wave propagation in a piezoelectric layer overlying a piezoelectric half space by an imperfect interface is investigated. These days because of widespread use of the piezoelectric materials in sensors and transducers based on surface waves, the study of wave propagation in these medias is paid attention by many researchers. In this study, imperfection between layer and half-space idealized by springs which have determine values. If the stiffness of springs approaches to infinity, the interface will be perfect. Also, zero stiffness of springs indicates that there is no continuity between layer and half space. With the use of potential functions for displacement...

    Abstract
The elastodynamic behavior of layered media consisting of an arbitrary combination of isotropic and transversely isotropic layers is of great importance for many engineering applications. In this work, some appropriate elastodynamic Green’s functions pertinent to both the displacement and the stress fields are devised so that the problems associated with the n-layer semi-infinite and infinite media with any combinations of transversely isotropic and isotropic layers subjected to surface and buried oblique time-harmonic annular loading can all be treated in a unified manner. The material degeneracy arising due to the scenarios where one or more regions are isotropic is also discussed and...

The Equivalent Period and Damping of Soil-Structure Systems on Layered Half-Space

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Esmaeilpour, Pouria (Author) ; Ghannad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since the early 1980s, it is well-known that the dynamic properties of structures are effected by flexibility of the underlying soil due to Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI). As a result, the soil-structure systems usually has a longer natural period and higher damping ratio that structure would have in the fixed-base state. The importance of SSI effect as well as the complexity of the phenomenon have made it the subject of several researches for the last four decades. It also has found its way into some seismic codes and provisions as simplified guidelines. In the present paper, a simplified 3DOF model is suggested as the soil-structure system by replacing the structure by a SDOF model using...
