Design of Base Isolated Structures by Endurance Time Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi Darestani, Yousef (Author) ; Estekanchi, Homayoon (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Endurance Time Method (ET) is a dynamic analysis based on the Time History Analysis in which a predefined intensifying excitation would be applied to the structure and then the performance of the structure would be assessed based on the maximum time that the structure could fulfill the predefined criteria. This method has less complications than the other ordinary Time History methods and decreases the calculations. This method could be applied to Seismic Isolated Structures. Seismic Isolation is a method for decreasing seismic response of structures without increasing strength and ductility of the structure. In this Method all or parts of the structure would be separated from the ground...

Incremental Dynamic Analysis in Regular Concrete Structures with Seismic Base Isolators

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haji Reza Zadeh Sanati, Saeed (Author) ; khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Although the issue of separation is studied frequently in the last few decades, in presence of numerous parameters and unknown effects of earthquakes and soil condition, scientists confront with remarkable difficulties. It was supposed that performance of structures which are secluded from soil remains in the elastic region and doesn’t bear nonlinearity. But according to recent studies, scientist assert that nonlinear performance might be possible as a result of various soil condition and ingredients of earthquake(magnitude and frequency). General procedure for seismic improvements of structures includes increasing the strength and resistance, capability of structure to absorb energy and...

Investigating the Behavior of 3D Irregular Steel Structures with Seismic Base Isolation under Multi-Directional Excitations and Predicting Results by Using the Endurance Time Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zarbilinezhad, Milad (Author) ; Esmail Pourestekanchi, Homayoon (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research has been performed with the aim of gaining familiarity with various types of seismic isolation systems, their unique features and numerous advantages, factors affecting their performance and finally their modelling and design. Despite the advantages of seismic isolation systems as control instruments, but where there is not enough information on the involved parameters in the performance of these systems, there is possibility of unpredictable behavior of the structures. Hence, considering the extent and influence of each parameter involved in the performance of the isolators, a parametric study is performed utilizing the 3D models under multi-directional excitations, using the...

Evaluating the Effect of Isolators Nominal Period on Seismic Response of a Multi-Story Isolated Structure

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zafar Azizi, Farzin (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Seismic isolation is well known as an effective and applicable technique to protect structures from destructive ground motions. Considerable functional and economical advantages of this technique have led to application of isolation systems at upper levels. In this study, seismic responses of a 6-story structure with a constant fundamental period, which is seismically isolated at the base and mid-height by non-linear isolation systems with variable nominal periods, are investigated. Analytical results indicate that stories below mid-height isolator show large changes in seismic responses caused by changes in isolator nominal period in comparison with upper stories. Although the fundamental...
