Weight-based colour constancy using contrast stretching

    , Article IET Image Processing ; Volume 15, Issue 11 , 2021 , Pages 2424-2440 ; 17519659 (ISSN) Abedini, Z ; Jamzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
One of the main issues in colour image processing is changing objects' colour due to colour of illumination source. Colour constancy methods tend to modify overall image colour as if it was captured under natural light illumination. Without colour constancy, the colour would be an unreliable cue to object identity. Till now, many methods in colour constancy domain are presented. They are in two categories; statistical methods and learning-based methods. This paper presents a new statistical weighted algorithm for illuminant estimation. Weights are adjusted to highlight two key factors in the image for illuminant estimation, that is contrast and brightness. The focus was on the convex part of...

Question Processing for Open Domain Persian Question Answering Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Hawre (Author) ; Bahrani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Question answering systems are systems which get a question in natural language as input and present an explicit, appropriate answer to the question. One of the major components of automatic question answering systems is question processing component in which the input question is analyzed. The main goal of question processing phase is to determine the answer type through question classification. Rule-based, machine learning-based and hybrid approaches have been used in order to develop question classifiers among which machine learning-based ones have outperformed the others. This study’s main goal is to develop a question classifier for Persian open domain question answering systems....

Seismic Damage Prediction for Non-Structural Building Systems: a Framework Based on Building Information Modeling and Machine Learning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mousavi, Milad (Author) ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Despite the vulnerability of non-structural systems in buildings to disasters, their resilient design has received minimal attention from the practitioners of the construction industry. However, interruption in the performance of these systems jeopardizes the functionality of the buildings and threatens the resilience of the whole community. To address this issue, the present study proposes a novel framework for predicting possible damage states of non-structural building systems under disasters. The proposed framework benefits from an automated combination of Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a visualized 3D database of the building's components and the Machine Learning (ML)...

A learning based method for topology control in wireless sensor networks

    , Article 5th International Conference on Autonomic and Autonomous Systems, ICAS 2009, Valencia, 20 April 2009 through 25 April 2009 ; 2009 , Pages 51-55 ; 9780769535845 (ISBN) Khasteh, S. H ; Shouraki, S. B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Topology Control (TC) is one of the most important techniques used in wireless ad hoc and sensor networks to reduce energy consumption and radio interference, The goal of this technique is to control the topology of the graph representing the communication links between network nodes with the purpose of maintaining some global graph property (e.g., connectivity), while reducing energy consumption and/or interference that are strictly related to the nodes' transmitting range. In this paper we present a new distributed learning based method to choose nodes transmitting range, in this method we run a range adjustment mechanism periodically to choose a near optimal transmitting range, we don't...
