    Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the performance of a nonlinear two-photon-absorption (TPA) receiver and compare its performance with that of a single-photon-absorption (SPA) receiver in the context of spectral-phase-encoded optical code-division multiple access (CDMA) technique. The performances for the above systems are evaluated for two different transmission scenarios, namely, asynchronous and slot-level synchronous transmitters. Performance evaluation includes different sources of degradation such as multiple-access interference, noise due to optical amplification, shot noise, and thermal noise. In obtaining the performance, the mean and variance of the received signal in each of the above...

    Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the performance of code acquisition system in atmospheric optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) communications using optical orthogonal codes. Memory introduced by temporal correlation of optical fading process precludes us from using the Markov chain model for a code acquisition analysis. By considering this issue, we discuss how to extend the applicability of the Markov chain model to the atmospheric OCDMA communications. We analyze and compare the performance of correlator and chip level detector (CLD) structures in the acquisition system. In our analysis, we consider the effects of free space optical channel impairments, multiple access interference, and...

Analysis and design of adaptive OCDMA passive optical networks

    , Article Journal of Lightwave Technology ; Volume 35, Issue 14 , 2017 , Pages 2853-2863 ; 07338724 (ISSN) Hadi, M ; Pakravan, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) systems can support multiple classes of service by differentiating code parameters, power level, and diversity order. In this paper, we analyze bit error rate (BER) performance of a multiclass 1-D/2-D OCDMA system and propose a new approximation method that can be used to generate accurate estimation of system BER using a simple mathematical form. The proposed approximation provides insight into proper system level analysis, system level design and sensitivity of system performance to the factors such as code parameters, power level, and diversity order. Considering code design, code cardinality, and system performance constraints, two design...

Cellular underwater wireless optical CDMA network: Performance analysis and implementation concepts

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Communications ; Volume 63, Issue 3 , 2015 , Pages 882-891 ; 00906778 (ISSN) Akhoundi, F ; Salehi, J. A ; Tashakori, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we introduce and investigate a cellular underwater wireless optical code division multiple-access (OCDMA) network based on optical orthogonal codes (OOC). The structures, principles, and performance of the underwater wireless OCDMA network in various water types are presented. Since underwater wireless optical links are considered for high-bandwidth underwater communications at short ranges, we will place a set of optical base transceiver stations (OBTS) each in the center of a hexagonal cell to cover a larger underwater area. The OBTSs are connected via fiber optic to an optical network controller (ONC) which operates as the core of the network. An integral expression for...
