    Abstract
Synergistic coupled transport of uranyl ion across a bulk liquid membrane of chloroform has been investigated using a dioxa-diazamacrocycle and oleic acid as carrier and synergistic agents, respectively. Quantitative transport of uranyl ion was achieved within 4 h when the pH of source solution was kept at 5.0–6.0 and mole ratio of carrier to synergistic agent was 1/15. It was found that overall rate and selectivity of the transport is governed by the stripping step. Finally, the influence of some foreign competitor ions including Al3+, Ca2+, CO3 2−, Cu2+, Mg2+, Pb2+, Zn2+ and Th4+ and also the ionic strength on the transport efficiency has been evaluated. © 2018, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest,...

Study of Effects of Operational Parameters on Flooding in Pertraction of Dysprosium in a Vertical Pulsed Packed Column

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadelari, Farzin (Author) ; Bastani, Dariush (Supervisor) ; Safdari, Jaber (Supervisor) ; Raji, Maliheh (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Pulsed packed columns are among the most important devices used in liquid-liquid extraction, with wide application in petroleum and petrochemical industries, metal salt extraction, pharmaceutical industries, metallurgy, and other areas. Liquid-membrane technology is an alternative separation technique to the liquid-liquid extraction for the extraction and recovery of metal ions from aqueous solutions. There are three main types of liquid membranes: emulsion liquid membrane (ELM), Bulk Liquid Membrane (BLM), and Supported Liquid Membrane (SLM). Liquid emulsion membrane is one of the pertraction methods with phase dispersion. It is a three-phase dispersion system, consisting: external phase,...

    Abstract
For the first time, Dysprosium was extracted by the novel method of emulsion liquid membrane in a pulsed packed column in a continuous process. Emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) was comprised of D2EHPA (di-2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid) as carrier and Span 80 (Polysorbate 80) as the surfactant in kerosene as the diluent and nitric acid as internal phase. In this work, the packed column was characterized from a hydrodynamic point of view including flooding condition and holdup at flooding points. Operational parameters affecting the flooding points, such as pulsation intensity and flow rate of continuous and dispersed phases have been studied. It was found that increase in pulsation intensity up...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadollahi, Mahdieh (Author) ; Bastani, Dariuosh (Supervisor) ; Kazemian, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, in order to investigate the effect of zeolites nanoparticles on the separation performance of a liquid membrane, a TEG/Nano Na-Y was developed. To do this, a high yield nano zeolite Na-Y was synthesized using mid-synthesis addition method . The synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, and SEM (EDX) instrumental techniques. A supported liquid membrane was prepared by impregnating a porous hydrophilic PVDF support with TEG and nano zeolite Na-Y. Permeances of single gas components of CO2, N2 and O2 were carried out at different pressures of 0.8, 1.8 and 3.7 bar. The single gases permeances were found to be: CO2 > N2 > O2. The results were shown that higher weight...

Separation of CO2 from CO2-air Mixture Using ILM Membrane Containing TEG-DEA

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahadi, Hossein (Author) ; Bastani, Dariush (Supervisor)
    Abstract
CO2 separation from air was investigated in this work. An immobilized liquid membrane (ILM) which contains triethylene glycol (TEG) and diethanolamine (DEA) was used for this purpose. In this kind of membranes a liquid, which improves permeability of gas species through the membrane, fills the pores of a polymeric membrane as support. Because of low vapor pressure of solution, liquid loss was negligible. Transport of CO2 was facilitated due to reversible chemical reaction between CO2 and amine solution. A polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane was chosen to have chemical resistance against the solution and prevent destruction of polymer by solution. A flat sheet and hydrophilic PVDF was...

    Abstract
In this research project, It has been investigated the ability of thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) as a carrier for selective separation of yttrium ions from aqueous media using bulk liquid membrane (BLM) system as a simple model for selective separation of 90Y from radioactive liquid wastes by the mentioned technique. Thus, a study has been made on carrier-mediated transport of yttrium(III) using a bulk liquid membrane prepared by dissolving thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) in dichloromethane. It has been observed that the use of n-propylamine (n-PA) in source phase as a synergistic reagent showed a marked enhancement of transport of yttrium ion. The source phase comprised of a solution of ...

    Abstract
2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone has been offered as a mobile carrier in organic phase for the transport and selective separation of yttrium from aqueous media using a liquid membrane system. Perceivably, the use of n-propylamine (PA) in the source phase enhances the transport of yttrium ions. The extraction and stripping conditions have entirely been evaluated and explained. The suggested method has been utilized for the separation of yttrium(III) from its binary mixtures with strontium(II) and some other cations such as Ni2+, Co2+, Ag+, Fe2+, Al3+, Cu2+, Hg2+and Cs+ in aqueous solutions of pH 5.4 in the presence of PA, while 1 M nitric acid was acting as a stripping agent in the receiving...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghighat, Parsa (Author) ; Bastani, Darush (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, initially the Glycerol liquid membrane with dissolved sodium carbonate carriers, which is supported by CA porous filter, was prepared. The effects of Na2CO3 concentration and pressure difference on gas permeability were investigated. Permeability of CO2 and N2 were measured at pressure difference of 0.7, 1.6, 2.1 and 2.8 bar with carbonate sodium concentration of 0, 1 and 2 mol/lit. Permeability of CO2 was found to be higher than N2. Increasing the pressure difference resulted in an increase in the N2 permeability coefficient while decreased the CO2 permeability coefficient. Increasing the concentration of sodium carbonate increased the CO2 permeability drastically but...

    Abstract
Interesting properties of ionic liquids lead to their application as sub-component of membrane structures. Supported ionic liquid membranes (SILMs) are porous membranes whose pores are saturated with ionic liquids. Two ionic liquids, pr[mim]2[Tf2N]2 [1,3-di(3-methyl-imidazolium) propane bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide] and, h[mim]2 [Tf2N]2 [(1,6-di(3-methylimidazolium)hexane bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide)], were synthesized in our laboratory and stabilized on an alumina porous support. Permeability and permselectivity of carbon dioxide and methane using membranes containing these ionic liquids were then measured. The experiments were performed in the pressure range of 10-50kPa and...
