    Abstract
The effects of weld nugget size and expulsion on the performance of low carbon steel resistance spot weld have been investigated in the present paper. Failure mode, peak load and failure energy obtained in tensile-shear test have been used to describe the performance of spot weld. The influence of voids and porosity as well as electrode indentation associated with expulsion on peak load and failure energy is discussed. The results showed that although expulsion does not reduce the load carrying capacity of spot welds, it decreases their energy absorption capability which was attributed to the change of failure location due to excessive electrode indentation associated with expulsion. © 2008...

Flexural behavior of concrete beams reinforced with high volume steel fibers

    , Article ISEC 2013 - 7th International Structural Engineering and Construction Conference: New Developments in Structural Engineering and Construction ; 2013 , Pages 1031-1036 ; 9810753551 (ISBN) ; 9789810753559 (ISBN) Khaloo, A ; Jahromi, H. Abstract
This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the flexural behavior of ten 10 × 15 × 120 (cm) steel reinforced high strength concrete beams under deflection control loading conditions. Test variable includes volumetric percentage of steel fibers (0%, 1.5%, 3%, 4%, 5%). The plain concrete strength was 30MPa. The monotonic concentrated load was applied at the center of the beam, the relative deflection was measured, and demec points were used to determine curvature of the beam. Load-deflection and moment-curvature diagrams have been obtained and plotted for each beam individually. Test results indicate that higher fiber content considerably improves flexural behavior and provides...

    Abstract
An experimental study of the. flexural behavior of Reinforced-Concrete (RC) arches strengthened with Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) layers was performed. A total of 36 specimens including 3 un-strengthenod (control) and 33 strengthened RC arches were tested under centrally concentrated point load. The variables of this study were steel reinforcement ratio, number of GFRP layers, and location and arrangement of GFRP layers. Failure mode, load-displacement response of specimens, crack propagation patterns, and GFRP debonding were examined. The extrados strengthening method was shown to Ix1 more effective than the intrados strengthening one in improving the failure load and rigidity of...

    Abstract
Timber is one of the materials widely used in construction and industry all over the world. In this paper, the behavior of strengthened timber beams made of beech wood (Fagus orientalis) were investigated experimentally. The composite timber beams were reinforced with flat, U-shaped, and L-shaped pultruded Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) profiles. The GFRPs were attached to tensile or both tensile and compressive surfaces of beams. Altogether, 24 specimens, including 20 strengthened beams and 4 un-strengthened (control) beams, were tested under three-point bending test. Flexural behavior of specimens was evaluated through their load versus mid-span displacement curves, ultimate load...

    Abstract
An experimental investigation on the behavior of RC arches strengthened by glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites is presented. Twelve samples were tested in order to determine influence of arrangement and number of GFRP layers on RC arches having different steel reinforcement ratios. The arches were tested under centrally concentrated point load using displacement control condition. Load-deflection behavior, failure mode, GFRP debonding, angle between hinge formation and supports and crack propagation pattern are studied extensively. Based on test results, extrados strengthening is much more effective than intrados strengthening in increasing ultimate load carrying capacity which...

A comprehensive 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional FEM study of scarf repair for a variety of common composite laminates under in-plane uniaxial and equibiaxial loadings

    Abstract
Due to their potential to recover strength and stiffness with a minimum impact on aerodynamic performance of a damaged structure, scarf repairs are boosted as a viable repair option for primary aero-structures. So far, most of the experimental and numerical studies have been limited to joint specimens and their equivalent 2 Dimensional models and a few number of studies attempted to examine the results using real scarf repair geometry. Suggestions previously made to justify the difference between scarf joint and scarf repair strength and possible solution to diminish the difference are challenged in current work. Here, it is tried to investigate the strengths and shortcomings of 2D scarf...
