    Abstract
The potential of end-users to modify their consumption pattern makes them an interesting resource for providing energy flexibility in energy communities. Thus, active end-users require sufficient incentives and automated trading and management schemes. In order to enable increased small-scale end-users participation for flexibility service provision, a new design for flexibility trading is required to model the behavior of different agents and their interactions in energy communities. The novelty of our work lies in proposing an iterative game-based approach in which all agents - consisting of the distribution system operator (DSO), aggregators, and customers- can determine their decision...

Correlation-enabled energy exchange in quantum systems without external driving

    , Article Physical Review A ; Volume 105, Issue 2 , 2022 ; 24699926 (ISSN) Pyhäranta, T ; Alipour, S ; Rezakhani, A. T ; Ala Nissila, T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We study the role of correlation in mechanisms of energy exchange between an interacting bipartite quantum system and its environment by decomposing the energy of the system to local and correlation-related contributions. When the system Hamiltonian is time independent, no external work is performed. In this case, energy exchange between the system and its environment occurs only due to the change in the state of the system. We investigate the possibility of a special case where the energy exchange with the environment occurs exclusively due to changes in the correlation between the constituent parts of the bipartite system, while their local energies remain constant. We find sufficient...

A Bi-Level framework for expansion planning in active power distribution networks

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Power Systems ; 2021 ; 08858950 (ISSN) Kabirifar, M ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Pourghaderi, N ; Dehghanian, P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper presents a new framework for multistage expansion planning in active power distribution networks, in which the distribution system operator (DSO) considers active network management by clearing the local energy market at the distribution level. The proposed model is formulated as a bi-level optimization problem, where the upper level minimizes the net present value of the total costs imposed to DSO associated with the investment and maintenance of the network assets as well as the network operation, while the lower level on clearing the local energy market captures the participation of distributed energy resource (DER) owners and demand aggregators to maximize the social welfare....

Developing a New Framework for Bidding Strategy of Prosumers in Transactive Energy Markets

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Davoudi, Mehdi (Author) ; Moeini Aghtaie, Moein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the bidding strategy of prosumers in transactive energy markets is analyzed. Considering the repaid increase in utilizing installations that convert multiple energy together, the concept of multi-carrier energy studies has been highlighted. Moreover, with the advent of district heating networks, thermal energy markets have gained much attention lately. The agent who participates in such markets can appropriately benefit from the inherent interdependencies between various energy carriers depending on their prices in different energy markets. This market player is technically called to pose an energy hub. In this regard, to deploy the inherent abilities of such an energy...

Developing a Framework for Providing the Flexibility of Active Consumers of Energy Distribution Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ostovar, Sara (Author) ; Moeini Aghtaie, Moein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The power systems’ net-load variability and uncertainty would aggravate significantly as the penetration of Renewable Energy Resources (RERs) in power systems increases. In response, power system researchers have introduced a new concept, namely flexibility, to quantitatively and systematically deal with unavoidable features of RERs. In power distribution systems as the connection point of power systems with customers, there are many opportunities for improving the flexibility level of systems. Nowadays, the emergence of prosumers has created new opportunities for distribution system operators in providing the system with different services of flexibility in distribution systems. Therefore,...
