    Abstract
In recent decades, many countries have shown a growing interest in the use of renewable energies for power generation. Geothermal energy is a clean and environmentally friendly source of renewable energy that can be used to produce electricity and heat for industrial and domestic applications. While Afghanistan has undeniably good geothermal potential that can be utilised to alleviate the country’s current energy limitations, so far this potential has remained completely untapped. In this study, the suitability of 21 provinces for geothermal project implementation in Afghanistan was evaluated using multiple multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The stepwise weight assessment ratio...

Hydropower plant site spotting using geographic information system and a MATLAB based algorithm

    , Article Journal of Cleaner Production ; Volume 152 , 2017 , Pages 7-16 ; 09596526 (ISSN) Serpoush, B ; Khanian, M ; Shamsai, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Meanwhile with increasing demand for energy sources in the world, hydropower plants can be considered as clean energy sources for sustainable development. Hydropower plant environmental impact is almost none. They are easy to construct and operate with much lower cost in comparison with other types of power plants. Currently in Iran, Conventional methods for determining hydropower plant potent location are very complicated and do not always eventuated to the best result. This study focuses on run of river projects and proposes a new methodology to spot hydropower plan best location according to specific engineering criteria, using ArcGIS and an algorithm developed in MATLAB. An economic...

Efficiently computing the smallest axis-parallel squares spanning all colors

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 24, Issue 3 , 2017 , Pages 1325-1334 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Khanteimouri, P ; Mohades, A ; Abam, M. A ; Kazemi, M. R ; Sedighin, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
For a set of colored points, a region is called color-spanning if it contains at least one point of each color. In this paper, we first consider the problem of maintaining the smallest color-spanning interval for a set of n points with k colors on the real line, such that the insertion and deletion of an arbitrary point takes O(log2 n) the worst-case time. Then, we exploit the data structure to show that there is O(n log2 n) time algorithm to compute the smallest color-spanning square for a set of n points with k colors in the plane. This is a new way to improve O(nk log n) time algorithm presented by Abellanas et al. [1] when k = !(log n). We also consider the problem of computing the...

Ranking locations for producing hydrogen using geothermal energy in Afghanistan

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 45, Issue 32 , 2020 , Pages 15924-15940 Mostafaeipour, A ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. J ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Geothermal energy is a type of renewable energy with high availability and independence from climatic and atmospheric conditions. It has been shown that geothermal energy is technically, economically and environmentally more suitable for hydrogen production than other renewable sources. Hydrogen has wide applications in many fields including cooling, oil, gas, petrochemical, nuclear, and energy industries. Afghanistan has significant potential in geothermal power generation and also several hydrogen-consuming industries that provide opportunities for geothermal-based hydrogen production. This study attempted to find suitable locations for the construction of geothermal power plant for...

A thorough analysis of renewable hydrogen projects development in Uzbekistan using MCDM methods

    Abstract
The energy supply system of Uzbekistan is not well positioned to meet the rapidly rising domestic energy demand of this country. Uzbekistan's current energy supply system is outdated and has very low diversity, as most of its energy comes from natural gas. In addition to producing immense amounts of greenhouse gas and environmental pollution, this situation is untenable considering the eventual depletion of fossil fuel reserves of this country. Uzbekistan's renewable energy sector is highly undeveloped, a situation that can be attributed to the lack of coherent policies for the advancement of renewable power and the low price of natural gas. However, this country has significant untapped...
