Congestion Pricing with Consideration of Long‐Term Effects

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaee, Hojjat (Author) ; Poorzahedy, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Congestion is the inseparable part of everyday life in large transportation networks. Expansion of road networks especially in downtown area is next to impossible and it is resulting multiplicative congestion problems. Congestion imposes private and public costs. Therefore, restricting policies on road use through cordon-based or area-based pricing is proposed to reduce the negative impacts of traffic, travel demand management and optimal use of transportation systems. This would produce better resource allocation through transportation network optimization. Implementation of congestion pricing policies induces short-term and long-term effects. In this thesis, it is attempted to determine...

A thorough investigation of the effects of water depth on the performance of active solar stills

    , Article Desalination ; Vol. 347 , 2014 , Pages 77-85 ; ISSN: 00119164 Taghvaei, H ; Taghvaei, H ; Jafarpur, K ; Karimi Estahbanati, M. R ; Feilizadeh, M ; Feilizadeh, M ; Seddigh Ardekani, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
One of the most important operating parameters which affects the performance and efficiency of active solar stills is brine depth. In all of the previous experimental or theoretical studies, effects of water depth were investigated during only the first 24-hour period (or even shorter periods) of the operation of active solar stills. In other words, only the first day was taken into account. However, the production of an active solar still depends on several parameters such as brine temperature at sunrise (initial temperature), which are all affected by the depth variation after the first day of operation. However, the present research experimentally investigates the long-term effects of...

Towards IoT-enabled multimodal mental stress monitoring

    Abstract
Stress is a body's natural way of responding to any kind of demand or challenge that everyone experiences from time to time. Although short-Term stress typically does not impose a health burden, exposure to prolonged stress can lead to significant adverse physiological and behavioral changes. Coping with the impact of stress is a challenging task and in this context, stress assessment is essential in preventing detrimental long-Term effects. The public embracement of connected wearable Internet of Things (IoT) devices, as well as the proliferation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies, have generated new opportunities for personalized stress tracking and...

Land Use-Transportation Integrated Model to Evaluate Long-Term Impacts of Transit Oriented Development

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mamdoohi, Sohrab (Author) ; Poorzahedy, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Expansions of large urban areas, as well as increase in the rate of car ownership, has given rise to the urban traffic congestion. One of the major approach to cope with the congestion issue is named Transit Oriented Development (TOD), which will cause changes in trip departure times, route choice, mode choice, and trip destinations. TOD also affects the land use in long-run periods. The goal of this study is to clarify the long-term impacts of TOD on land use and find the appropriate transit projects in order to abate the drawbacks of changes in land us. Land use/ transportation has been the subject of many recent studies. One of the previous studies investigates land use and transportation...
