    Abstract
By increasing the number of registered speakers in Speaker Identification (SI) systems, computation time for identifying an unknown speaker is significantly increased. This problem arises from the simple design of conventional methods. Due to this limitation, we cannot use conventional SI methods in real time applications. In this paper, we propose a two-step method to overcome this limitation. We use different identification methods for each step. In the first step we reduce the search space using Nearest Neighbor method. In the second step we identify the target speaker using the conventional GMM-based SI method. The experimental results show 3.4× speed-ups without any accuracy loss using...

Assessment of a practical technique for active control of sound using microphone and speaker

    Abstract
In this analytical study, it has been desired to develop a practical and simple control mechanism to control, at a given point and its neighborhood, the sound arriving from a distant source, assuming that a primary pure-tone sound pressure is propagated from a relatively far distance. The control model consists of a microphone as a sensor for measuring the sound pressure and a loud speaker for applying the control force. Corresponding equations have been developed to determine an optimum control force, and afterwards a parametric study on the factors affecting the control results has been performed. The results show that the control system can significantly reduce low frequency sound...

    Abstract
In large population Speaker Identification (SI), computation time has become one of the most important issues in recent real time systems. Test computation time depends on the cost of likelihood computation between test features and registered speaker models. For real time application of speaker identification, system must identify an unknown speaker quickly. Hence the conventional SI methods cannot be used. In this paper, we propose a two-step method that utilizes two different identification methods. In the first step we use Nearest Neighbor method to decrease the search space. In the second step we use GMM-based SI methods to specify the target speaker. We achieved 3.5× speed-ups without...

    Abstract
OFDM is a multicarrier modulation scheme with high bandwidth efficiency and robustness to multipath environment used in high data rate transmission. However, a drawback of this system is the large Peak-to-Average-Power Ratio (PAR) of the transmit signal which makes its straightforward implementation quite costly. PAR in an OFDM based system can be reduced significantly by PTS method for which data recovery requires side information (SI) about the phases used at transmitter. Sending SI, not only reduces the rate, but also increases BER, for any error in SI detection can damage a large amount of transmitted information. By introducing a new phase set, we propose a PTS based method for MPSK...
