Experimental Study of Repair to Upgrade Concrete in Concrete Bridge Decks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mottahed, Jaber (Author) ; Joghatae, Abdolreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study presents the experimental investigation, the effect of cement based chemical materials (Portland cement as a repair material No1. and 2 other cement base chemical materials) to upgrade the structural behavior of reinforced concrete slabs built with low quality (porous) concrete. The main issues focused in this investigation are: (i) the effect of repair on the flexural behavior of RC slabs in terms of ultimate capacity and ultimate mid-span deflection and ductility of specimens, (ii) the influence of repair materials on failure modes and (iii) evaluating the efficiency of different materials on decreasing the porosity of concrete by ultrasonic test. Because materials used in this...

Exprimental Study of Repair of Low Quality and Damaged Concrete in Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shokri, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Joghatae, Abdolreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study presents the experimental investigation, the effect of cement based chemical materials (Portland cement as a repair material No1. and 2 other cement base chemical materials) to upgrade the structural behavior of reinforced concrete slabs built with low quality (porous) concrete. Because materials used in this study are cement base it is expectable to behavior same as base concrete that its result is better compatibility with base structure against external factors. Other advantages of the use of these materials are consideration of economical and construction aspects. A total of four reinforced concrete column (200x200x800 mm) with low quality (porous) concrete have been built,...

Improving the quality of code snippets in stack overflow

    , Article 31st Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing, 4 April 2016 through 8 April 2016 ; Volume 04-08-April-2016 , 2016 , Pages 1492-1497 ; 9781450337397 (ISBN) Tavakoli, M. Abstract
Question and answer (Q&A) websites like Stack Overflow are one of the important sources of code examples in which developers can ask their questions and leave their answers about programming issues. Since the number of programmers who use these websites are increasing and a large number of questions and answers are being posted there by them, verifying the quality of all the answers and particularly the code snippets in them is impossible. Consequently, some code snippets might be of low quality and/or with faults. To mitigate this issue, we introduce ExRec (Example Recommender), an Eclipse plugin with which programmers can contribute in improving the quality of code snippets in the answers...

On understanding the relation of knowledge and confidence to requirements quality

    , Article 27th International Working Conference on Requirements Engineering: Foundation for Software Quality, REFSQ 2021, 12 April 2021 through 15 April 2021 ; Volume 12685 LNCS , 2021 , Pages 208-224 ; 03029743 (ISSN) ; 9783030731274 (ISBN) Dehghani, R ; Wnuk, K ; Mendez, D ; Gorschek, T ; Ramsin, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
[Context and Motivation] Software requirements are affected by the knowledge and confidence of software engineers. Analyzing the interrelated impact of these factors is difficult because of the challenges of assessing knowledge and confidence. [Question/Problem] This research aims to draw attention to the need for considering the interrelated effects of confidence and knowledge on requirements quality, which has not been addressed by previous publications. [Principal ideas/results] For this purpose, the following steps have been taken: 1) requirements quality was defined based on the instructions provided by the ISO29148:2011 standard, 2) we selected the symptoms of low qualified...

Random data and key generation evaluation of some commercial tokens and smart cards

    , Article 2014 11th International ISC Conference on Information Security and Cryptology, ISCISC 2014 ; 2014 , p. 49-54 Boorghany, A ; Sarmadi, S. B ; Yousefi, P ; Gorji, P ; Jalili, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, we report our evaluation of the strength of random number generator and RSA key-pair generator of some commercially available constrained hardware modules, i.e., tokens and smart cards. That was motivated after recent related attacks to RSA public keys, which are generated by constrained network devices and smart cards, and turned out to be insecure due to low-quality randomness. Those attacks are mostly computing pair-wise GCD between the moduli in public keys, and resulted in breaking several thousands of these keys. Our results show that most of the tested hardware modules behave well. However, some have abnormal or weak random generators which seem to be unsuitable for...

Predicting subjective features from questions on qa websites using BERT

    , Article 6th International Conference on Web Research, ICWR 2020, 22 April 2020 through 23 April 2020 ; 2020 , Pages 240-244 Annamoradnejad, I ; Fazli, M ; Habibi, J ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Community Question-Answering websites, such as StackOverflow and Quora, expect users to follow specific guidelines in order to maintain content quality. These systems mainly rely on community reports for assessing contents, which has serious problems, such as the slow handling of violations, the loss of normal and experienced users' time, the low quality of some reports, and discouraging feedback to new users. Therefore, with the overall goal of providing solutions for automating moderation actions in QA websites, we aim to provide a model to predict 20 quality or subjective aspects of questions in QA websites. To this end, we used data gathered by the CrowdSource team at Google Research in...

Improving quality of a post's set of answers in stack overflow

    , Article 46th Euromicro Conference on Software Engineering and Advanced Applications, SEAA 2020, 26 August 2020 through 28 August 2020 ; 2020 , Pages 504-512 Tavakoli, M ; Izadi, M ; Heydarnoori, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Community Question Answering platforms such as Stack Overflow help a wide range of users solve their challenges on-line. As the popularity of these communities has grown over the years, both the number of members and posts have escalated. Also, due to the diverse backgrounds, skills, expertise, and viewpoints of users, each question may obtain more than one answer. Therefore, the focus has changed toward producing posts that have a set of answers more valuable for the community as a whole, not just one accepted-answer aimed at satisfying only the question-asker. Same as every universal community, a large number of low-quality posts on Stack Overflow require improvement. We call these posts...

Requirements for automating moderation in community question-answering websites

    , Article 15th Innovations in Software Engineering Conference, ISEC 2022, 24 February 2022 through 26 February 2022 ; 2022 ; 9781450396189 (ISBN) Annamoradnejad, I ; ACM; ACM India SIGSOFT ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In recent years, community Q&A websites have attracted many users and have become reliable sources among experts from various fields. These platforms have specific rules to maintain their content quality in addition to general user agreements. Due to the vast expanse of these systems in terms of the number of users and posts, manual checking and verification of new contents by the administrators and official moderators are not feasible, and these systems require scalable solutions. In major Q&A networks, the current strategy is to use crowdsourcing with reliance on reporting systems. This strategy has serious problems, including the slow handling of violations, the loss of new and...
