Deformation Analysis of Magnetic Elastomers using Finite Element Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Norouzi, Faezeh (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Sohrabpour, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Goudarzi, Taha (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Magnetic elastomers are smart materials that consist of a combination of elastomeric matrix and magnetic particles. The mechanical and magnetic properties of this materials are changed by Applying an external magnetic field. The presence of an external magnetic field can cause these elastomers deform largely.Significant deformations of the magnetic elastomers, has made them suitable for a wide range of applications. The aim of this project is to solve the governing equations of magnetic elastomers with finite element method. Since there are no suitable models for the behavior of these elastomers in the commercial softwares, magnetic field module and solid mechanics module should be coupled...

Vibration Control of One Dimensional Non-uniform Structures by Magnetorheological Materials

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naeimy, Hamed (Author) ; Behzad, Mehdi (Supervisor) ; Zabihollah, Abolghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Non-uniform composite structures are widely being utilized in many modern industries including aerospace and automobile and wind turbine machines. Excessive vibration in these structures leads to dynamic instability and structural failure. In the present work, the vibration control of non-uniform composite structure particularly trapezoidal plates has been investigated using magnetorheological materials. The application of various smart materials including magnetorheological (MR) elastomer and magnetorheological fluids has been reviewed for vibration control. A trapezoidal composite plate with holes filled by MR elastomer has been considered for numerical simulations. The effect of location...

Vibration and Aeroelastic Stability Analysis of Sandwich Turbomachinery Blade with Magnetorheological Elastomer Core

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Bornassi, Saeed (Author) ; Haddadpour, Hassan (Supervisor) ; Mohammad Navazi, Hossein (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
This dissertaion deals with the vibration and aeroelasticity analysis of a turbomachinery cascade with Magnetorheological Elastomer (MRE) based sandwich blades. At first, bending vibration of the rotary blades equipped with an MRE core based on the three-layered sandwich beam theory have been studied in the flexural and edgewise directions. Further, the torsional vibration is investigated and the effects of different parameters such as the intensity of the magnetic field, rotating speed and the MRE layer thickness on the natural frequencies and loss factors of the system are studied. On the basis of the modeling obtained for the structural dynamics and based on the Whitehead's unsteady...
