    Abstract
A series of bifunctional catalysts, including Cu-ZnO-ZrO 2 and H-Y zeolite catalysts, were prepared and tested for conversion of maleic anhydride (MA) to tetrahydrofuran (THF). Cu-ZnO-ZrO 2 catalyst was used as the hydrogenating component and H-Y zeolite as the dehydrating component. The appropriate ratio of Cu/ZnO in the hydrogenation catalyst was 50:45, for which the conversion of MA and selectivity of THF reached 100 and 46%, respectively, at 50 bar and 493 K. The bifunctional catalyst of Cu-ZnOZrO 2/H-Y can produce THF from MA with high activity, selectivity, and stability. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 18th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering...

    Abstract
A series of bifunctional Cu-ZnO-ZrO2/H-Y catalysts of different compositions were prepared by coprecipitating sedimentation method and were characterized by surface area and XRD analyses. The catalytic performance in synthesis of tetrahydrofuran was evaluated and optimized in a three-phase slurry batch reactor. The experimental results showed that the appropriate ratio of Cu/ZnO in the hydrogenation catalyst was 50/45, for which the conversion of maleic anhydride (MA) and selectivity of tetrahydrofuran (THF) reached 100% and 46%, respectively, at 50 bar and 493 K after 6 h of operation. Also, according to these results, it was demonstrated that the incorporation of zirconium oxide in the...

    Abstract
In this study, maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene microporous flat-sheet membranes were prepared via a thermally induced phase separation method with a mixture of dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate as a diluent. The effects of the polymer composition and coagulation bath temperature on the morphology and performance of the fabricated membranes were investigated. The hydrophilicity results of the membranes demonstrated that membrane modification reduced the water contact angle by about 45°, whereas the pure water flux was enhanced about four times. The antifouling behavior of the fabricated membranes was also investigated in a membrane bioreactor. The results show that the pure water...

Roll bonding of AA5052 and polypropylene sheets: bonding mechanisms, microstructure and mechanical properties

    , Article Journal of Adhesion ; 2016 , Pages 1-25 ; 00218464 (ISSN) Rezaei Anvar, B ; Akbarzadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Structural, microstructural and mechanical properties in roll bonding of AA5052 and polypropylene sheets have been evaluated in this study. The surface roughness of the AA5052 sheets, rolling temperature and the surface energy of polymer were selected as the bonding variables. The findings indicated that an increase in the surface energy of polypropylene by grafting maleic anhydride would result in higher bonding strength due to chemical interaction between the AA5052 and the maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MAH). In fact, this reaction caused the formation of an interphase layer at the polymer side of the interface and the diffusion of aluminum into the PP-g-MAH layer. It was...

    Abstract
In this study, the morphological, rheological, and mechanical properties of PP/HDPE blend compatibilized with poly (propylene-g-maleic anhydride) were studied. Necessary blends were prepared using a counter current twin-screw extruder. The blend composition ranged from 10 to 50 wt% of dispersed phase (HDPE) and compatibilizer (MAPP) with two Concentration ranges 10, 20 wt% were used for PP/HDPE (80/20) blend with respect to the dispersed phase (HDPE). The results of morphological studies shows a droplet dispersion morphology in the composition to 50wt% HDPE content, which indicates that HDPE forms a dispersed phase and PP forms a continuous phase in these composition region. Addition of the...

Preparation of Acrylamide Copolymers Containing Highly Hydrophobic Monomers and Study on Their Drag Reduction Properties

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Dadkhah, Parsa (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the rapid increase of energy consumption, energy problem has been a global issue, which must be faced with and solved. One way to prevent energy consumption is to reduce drag in the flow inside the pipes by using polymer additives; Because the Transportation of liquids using pipeline technology has its limitations, since turbulent flow inside the pipe involves a loss of energy. The net effect of this is that increasing the energy applied to the flow does not increase the flow rate. For this purpose, copolymers and terpolymers of hydrophilic acrylamide monomers along with hydrophobic styrene and hydrophilic maleic anhydride monomers were synthesized by reverse emulsion polymerization...
