    Abstract
Electric arc welding is a routine operation in the construction of metallic structures, but the fumes generated during the welding process can threaten the health of welders. Fumes are undesirable products of the majority of welding operations and may have various detrimental effects on health. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of operational parameters of the shielded metal arc welding SMAW process on the emission of fumes. A dust monitor was used to measure the number and mass concentration of fumes generated by SMAW. Measurements were made at the distances of 23 cm hood inlet and 41 cm welder’s breathing zone from the weld point, with different values assigned to...

Laminar falling film flow of aqueous Li Br solution on a horizontal elliptical tube

    , Article International Journal of Fluid Mechanics Research ; Volume 40, Issue 4 , 2013 , Pages 324-343 ; 10642277 (ISSN) Abyaneh, M. H. J ; Saidi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Flow hydrodynamics of laminar falling film of aqueous Li Br solution (Li Br - H2O) on a horizontal elliptical tube has been investigated in this research. The film velocity distribution and film thickness, namely, the flow characteristics are determined by solving analytically simultaneous simplified Navier - Stokes equations and continuity equation in polar and Cartesian coordinates. The analysis is based on steady state laminar flow of falling liquid film of Li Br - H2O on a horizontal elliptical tube in polar model and Cartesian model (CM), for cases in which traction on the film surface is considered negligible. Models are compared with each other in three cases of aspect ratios (Ar),...

An experimental study on the effect of ultrasonication on thermal conductivity of ferrofluid loaded with carbon nanotubes

    , Article Thermochimica Acta ; Volume 617 , October , 2015 , Pages 102-110 ; 00406031 (ISSN) Shahsavar, A ; Salimpour, M. R ; Saghafian, M ; Shafii, M. B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Nanofluids containing Fe3O4 and carbon nanotubes nanoparticles emulsified and dispersed using gum arabic (GA) and tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) were made and characterized for potential use as heat transfer fluids. Due to the interaction between the TMAH and GA molecules, the magnetic nanoparticles and CNTs were physically adsorbed. This paper reports an experimental work on the effect of ultrasonication on thermal conductivity of this aqueous suspension. The characterization and surface morphology of the dried samples were studied by using XRD and TEM measurements. Experiments were conducted in the magnetic nanoparticles mass concentration range 0.494-2.428%,...

    Abstract
In this paper, the effect of different parameters on the thermal operation of a Closed Loop Pulsating Heat Pipe (CLPHP) has been investigated. These parameters include the working fluid, the inclination angle, the filling ratio, and the input heat flux. The effect of nanoparticle mass concentrations has been analyzed as well. It was observed that the CLPHP can decrease thermal resistance up to 11.5 times compared to the same empty copper tube with thermal resistance of 9.4 K/W. Optimum thermal operation for a system with the water-silver nanofluid was achieved at conditions of the 50% filling ratio with thermal resistance of 0.9 K/W, and for the water-titanium oxide system, the optimal...

    Abstract
Predicting the reaction and function of marine structures towards sea waves, is of significant importance in the design of them. There are some uncertain parameters which can be optimized to increase safety factors as well as to decrease the costs. Knowing the maximum oscillation of marine structures due to dynamic forces will play a great role on structures' safe design. The objective of this paper is to employ a reliable numerical technique to analyze the interaction between marine structures and sea waves. Simulink is an object oriented dynamic simulation package. It can develop new analysis tools aimed at a better understanding and prediction of the physics that governs the behavior of...
