    Abstract
In this paper, an algorithm for fault diagnosis of permanent magnet DC electromotors.has been investigated, based on vibration and electrical current monitoring. Several permanent magnet DC electromotors.with previously determined faults have been prepared and the vibration, current and speed data have been measured. The relationship between certain related measured data and faults has been determined. A fault diagnosis algorithm has been developed in this research based on these relationships. This algorithm can be used in mass production lines for quality control

Micromorphic balance equations in mass transport and mass production

    , Article International Journal of Engineering Science ; Volume 153 , 2020 Javadi, M ; Epstein, M ; Asghari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
The balance equations for micromorphic materials with mass flux and mass production are determined based on the phenomenon of self-diffusion. In this study, the self-diffusive flux is the flux of mass of a single micromorphic species within itself which is captured by defining the relative macro-element spatial velocity vector and the relative micro-gyration tensor. By use of a binary micromorphic mixture theory, the self-diffusion of a single micromorphic species within itself results in an extra diffusive momentum field, an extra diffusive moment of momentum and their respective non-compliant terms. The concepts of the macro- and micro-mass flux are studied in the framework of the...

Synthesis of graphene from natural and industrial carbonaceous wastes

    , Article RSC Advances ; Vol. 4, issue. 39 , 2014 , p. 20441-20448 Akhavan, O ; Bijanzad, K ; Mirsepah, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets have usually been synthesized through Hummers' method by using highly pure graphite (HPG) as the main starting material. However, HPG can be relatively expensive for mass production of high-quality graphene. In this work, a general method for synthesis of high-quality GO and rGO sheets from various natural and industrial carbonaceous wastes such as vegetation wastes (wood, leaf, bagasse, and fruit wastes), animal wastes (bone and cow dung), a semi-industrial waste (newspaper), and an industrial waste (soot powders produced in exhaust of diesel vehicles) was developed. Based on atomic force microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray...

Predicting fitting quality of mechanical assemblies through statistical-based process capability analysis

    , Article SAE 2011 World Congress and Exhibition, Detroit, MI, 12 April 2011 through 14 April 2011 ; 2011 Movahhedy, M. R ; Khodaygan, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The process capability indices are widely used to measure the capability of the process to manufacture objects within the required tolerance. Fit quality is mainly dominated by the distribution of fit dimensions, i.e., a gap dimension. As the fit dimensions are very difficult to be measured in mass production, they are not to be considered as a direct inspection objective. The quality inspection and evaluation relative to fit quality are focused on whether the processes of assembly requirements are conformed with their specification limits respectively. Fit quality specification can be indicated by the process capability indices of mating parts. In this paper, the statistical-based process...

Hydrogen-rich water for green reduction of graphene oxide suspensions

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 40, Issue 16 , 2015 , Pages 5553-5560 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Azimirad, R ; Gholizadeh, H. T ; Ghorbani, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Abstract H2-rich water as a green antioxidant was applied for deoxygenation of graphene oxide (GO) suspensions. The ability of H2-rich water for deoxygenation of GO sheets was found comparable to the ability of hydrazine (as a standard and powerful reductant), using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In fact, the O/C ratio of GO sheets could be reduced from 0.51 to 0.21 and 0.16 by H2-rich water and hydrazine, respectively. More importantly, while C-N bond formation is one of the side effects of GO reduction by hydrazine, no chemical C-N bond was found on the H2-water-reduced GO (rGO) sheets. This also resulted in a better restoration of the graphitic structure of the H2-water-rGO, as...

Innovative semi-analytical methodology to predict automobile body temperature distribution in the curing ovens

    , Article Heat Transfer Engineering ; Volume 33, Issue 2 , Jun , 2012 , Pages 109-117 ; 01457632 (ISSN) Hanafizadeh, P ; Sajadi, B ; Saidi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In automobile painting industries, new automobile body products frequently should be tested in order to determine the actual thermal behavior of a paint curing process before starting mass production. During the hardening processes of dipped paint coating, applied in the electrophoretic enameling process, or top paint coating, applied in the final coating process, the automobile body must be warmed up according to the specific paint manufacturer curve. Consequently, prediction of car body temperature during the curing process may be vital in the design and performance analysis of the paint ovens. Numerical simulation of these processes may reduce expensive and time-consuming experimental...

    Abstract
Changes in business environment are leading firms to adopt a new production model called agile manufacturing. This term moves away from the traditional mass production paradigm and focuses on manufacturing highly customised products when customers require them. In this paper, we present an initial approach to agile organisation based on case studies in an Iranian industrial organisation. An agile organisation conceptual model has been drawn up, based on the conclusions of the case study. The study presented here is of an exploratory factor analysis and the conclusions are drawn through path analysis, propose possible routes for future research in the field of agile organisation. 2009
    Abstract
A rapid wax injection tool of a gearbox shift fork was designed, simulated, and manufactured using rapid prototyping and rapid tooling technology to save time and cost of producing wax models used for the investment casting process. CAE simulation softwares, in particular, MoldFlow, are used to get wax injection moulding parameters such as filling parameters, temperature profiles, freeze time, speed, and pressure. The results of this research were compared with conventional wax model production methods. The criteria of such comparison were based upon parameters such as time, cost, and other related characteristics, which resulted in saving of 50% in time and 60% in cost. In this research,...

    Abstract
Injection molding is one of the most important manufacturing processes for mass production of complex plastic parts. In this study, mold filling is simulated by using the OpenFOAM software for Non- isothermal Newtonian fluid. The OpenFOAM is an open source software that is used in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools. The studied mold shape has a rectangular structure with a gate for Newtonian fluid injection. The simulation carried out at non-isothermal conditions and two-dimensional flow is considered. The velocity, shear stress and temperature changes in different parts of the mold are critically studied. We show that vortex formation plays an important role on changes of shear stress...

    , Article Proceedings of the ASME Summer Heat Transfer Conference 2009, HT2009, 19 July 2009 through 23 July 2009 ; Volume 3 , 2009 , Pages 655-660 ; 9780791843581 (ISBN) Hanafizadeh, P ; Sajadi, B ; Saidi, M. H ; Khalkhali, H ; Taherraftar, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Automotive industry frequently needs to test new products, according to different production parameters, in order to determine the actual thermal behavior of bodies before mass production is implemented. Numerical simulation of these processes can reduce the very expensive and time consuming experimental procedures. For the drying and hardening process of the top paint applied in the coating process, the body temperature must be raised according to the paint manufacturer regulations. Consequently, prediction of temperature distribution of the car body during various zones of ovens is very vital in the design and performance analysis of the paint dryers. In this research, a novel...
