    Abstract
CO2 gas injection is known as one of the most popular enhanced oil recovery techniques for light and medium oil reservoirs, therefore providing an acceptable mass transfer mechanism for CO2–oil systems seems necessary. In this study, interfacial mass transfer coefficient has been evaluated for CO2–normal heptane and CO2–normal hexadecane systems using equilibrium and dynamic interfacial tension data, which have been measured using the pendant drop method. Interface mass transfer coefficient has been calculated as a function of temperature and pressure in the range of 313–393 K and 1.7–8.6 MPa, respectively. The results showed that the interfacial resistance is a parameter that can control...

Simulation of SO2 absorption in a venturi scrubber

    , Article Chemical Engineering Communications ; Volume 197, Issue 7 , Feb , 2010 , Pages 934-952 ; 00986445 (ISSN) Taheri, M ; Mohebbi, A ; Taheri, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, a three-dimensional mathematical model, based on a nonuniform droplet concentration distribution, has been developed to simulate gas absorption in a venturi scrubber. The mass transfer process was illustrated by assuming the liquid phase as a combination of droplets and film. The flow, just as the annular two-phase flow, includes a flow of liquid film layer on the walls and a flow of gas and liquid drops in the core. Peclet number was determined using experimental data reported by Viswanathan et al. (1984) for distribution of droplets across the cross section of the scrubber. The mathematical model for gas absorption was justified by comparing the theoretical predictions with...

Uncertainty quantification and global sensitivity analysis of double-diffusive natural convection in a porous enclosure

    Abstract
In this paper, detailed uncertainty propagation analysis (UPA) and variance-based global sensitivity analysis (GSA) are performed on the widely adopted double-diffuse convection (DDC) benchmark problem of a square porous cavity with horizontal temperature and concentration gradients. The objective is to understand the impact of uncertainties related to model parameters on metrics characterizing flow, heat and mass transfer processes, and to derive spatial maps of uncertainty and sensitivity indices which can provide physical insights and a better understanding of DDC processes in porous media. DDC simulations are computationally expensive and UPA and GSA require large number of simulations,...

Silane–based modified papers and their extractive phase roles in a microfluidic platform

    Abstract
Herein, some (modified) paper–based substrates were prepared and utilized as extractive phases in a microfluidic device and their extraction performances examined for analytes with different polarities. Reagents including hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS), phenyltrimethoxysilane (PTES), (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) and 3–(2,3–epoxypropoxy) propyltrimethoxysilane (EPPTMOS) were implemented for the modification process. Due to the induction of different silane functional groups, it was anticipated to have various interactions for the tested analytes. Eventually, the prepared paper sheets were used as extractive phases for solid–phase extraction within a microfluidic system. The...
