    Estimation of 3-D pore network coordination number of rocks from watershed segmentation of a single 2-D image

    Abstract
    In this study, we have utilized 3-D micro-tomography images of real and synthetic rocks to introduce two mathematical correlations which estimate the distribution parameters of 3-D coordination number using a single 2-D cross-sectional image. By applying a watershed segmentation algorithm, it is found that the distribution of 3-D coordination number is acceptably predictable by statistical analysis of the network extracted from 2-D images. In this study, we have utilized 25 volumetric images of rocks in order to propose two mathematical formulas.     Abstract
    The bulk of the worldwide annual commercial production of ethylene is based on thermal cracking of petroleum hydrocarbons with steam. In this research, the effect of coil outlet temperature on the reactor yield has been studied. In order to investigate a reliable mathematical correlation, several data points were obtained by adjusting coil outlet temperature in a real plant. In order to investigate best coil outlet temperature, an objective function was represented. Based on the obtained mathematical correlation and the assumed objective function, it was found that best coil outlet temperature for investigating maximum income is 1,128 K

    Abstract
    Functionally graded aluminum matrix composites (FGAMC) are new advanced materials with promising applications due to their unique characteristics in which composite nature is combined with graded structure. Different architectures of Al6061/SiCp composite laminates were fabricated by successive hot roll-bonding. For FGAMCs, two composite layers as outer strips and a layer of Al1050 as interlayer were applied.     Molecular diffusion of gases in crude oils plays a crucial role in several oil recovery processes especially in cold-based production process. However, experimental data concerning CO2 diffusivity in heavy oils due to the tedious nature of diffusivity measurements are relatively rare in the open literature.     Abstract
    In this study, lamination as extrinsic mechanism was considered to enhance damage tolerance of three-layer Al6061-5%vol. SiCp/Al1050/Al6061-5%vol. SiCp composites. To fabricate laminates of dissimilar interfacial adhesion, different rolling strains were applied during hot roll-bonding. The discrepancy in interfacial strength of laminates was examined by shear test while toughness values were studied using three-point bending test. It was revealed that both interfacial adhesion and damage tolerance were influenced by rolling strain.
