Abstract
Most researches on the application of the adjoint method in turbine blade design are concentrated on the aerodynamic shape optimization without considering the heat transfer to/from the blade material. In this study, the adjoint method is extended to the conjugate heat transfer problems in which the viscous flow field is coupled to heat transfer in the solid region. Introducing a new adjoint variable in the solid domain, a heat adjoint equation is derived which is coupled with the energy adjoint equation in the fluid zone at the fluid/solid interface. Abstract
Gels are composed of crosslinked polymer network and solvent molecules. When the main chain network is incorporated with functional groups that can undergo photo-chemical reaction upon light irradiation, the gel becomes light-responsive. Under irradiation, the photosensitive groups may undergo photo-ionization process and generate charges that are attached to the main chain or diffuse into the solvent. The newly generated ions disturb the osmotic balance of the gel medium. As a result, water molecules and mobile ions are driven into or out of the network to compensate the osmotic imbalance, which eventually leads to macroscopic swelling or shrinking of the gel. Abstract
This paper presents a mathematical model describing how the physicians actually make a diagnostic decision. Next to a description of diagnostic decision making as done by the physicians, this paper shows that how can we design and develop a new approach to medical diagnosis based on the human principles of decision making. The model was challenged to diagnose a series of actual patients. Real clinical data was entered into the model and the system produced a ranked list of possible diagnoses for each case. Abstract
Uranium (VI) sorption using an anionic exchanger resin, namely Amberlite IRA910, in the presence of sulfate anions was the subject of current study. Batch sorption experiments were carried out to evaluate the influence of operational parameters such as pH, contact time, initial concentration and existence of various anions (including phosphate, sulfate, chloride, fluoride, and nitrate) in the solution on Amberlite IRA910 sorption behavior. Experiments revealed that uranium adsorption was fulfiled at pH>3 and 50 min to amount of 80%. Kinetics study revealed that the pseudo-second-order model showed better curve-fitting regression of the experimental data than the pseudo-first-order one....
