Presented in this paper are a method, named the Dynamic Rule Prediction (DRP), which predicts the behavior of a system and its application in designing a controller. The aim of the study is to overcome some of the limitations and shortcoming of the other modeling methods. The effectiveness of this method is verified. The controller based on DRP possesses two main features. It can control the system without any prior knowledge of the controlled plant. It is, also, superior as its high-speed prediction. In this paper, an extended approach to the nonlinear DMC algorithm is proposed, which can handle constrained and MIMO systems under some defined conditions. This extension also admits higher control horizon, M and prediction horizon, P that are required to increase the performance of the controller in the most practical applications. Simulation results of the proposed method in the control of a stirred tank reactor with 2 inputs, 2 outputs nonlinear model and also a power unit nonlinear model with 3 inputs, 3 outputs are presented to illustrate effectiveness of the method and its justification. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Adaptive Model Predictive Transmission Control Protocol (AMP-TCP) as a new TCP delay-based congestion control algorithm is introduced. Both aspects of design and implementation of the algorithm are described using simulations on the ns-2 network simulator. The design stage is composed of two steps. First, a recursive system identification approach is proposed to capture the network delay dynamics from TCP source view. Higher reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in cancer cells than normal cells have long been recognized, which makes cancer cells more susceptible to excess ROS. Thus oxidation (also called pro-oxidant) therapy has been explored as new cancer therapy regimens. To produce additional ROS, e.g. H2O2 in situ within tumor, we encapsulated glucose oxidase in chitosan-coated alginate-calcium microspheres (GOX-MS) for locoregional treatment and demonstrated its efficacy against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. This paper presents for the first time a mathematical model for a mechanism of controlled drug release involving both ion exchange and transient counter diffusion of a drug and counterions. Numerical analysis was conducted to study the effect of different factors on drug release kinetics including environmental condition, material properties, and design parameters. Through the activation process of T cells, actin filaments move from the cell periphery toward the cell center. The moving filaments engage with T cell receptors and thus contribute to transportation of the signaling molecules. To study the connection between the moving actin filaments and T cell receptors, an experiment available in the literature has measured filaments flow velocity passing over a region of confined clusters of receptors. This study presents a novel statistical volume element (SVE) for micromechanical modeling of the white matter structures, with histology-informed randomized distribution of axonal tracts within the extracellular matrix.
