A mathematical-programming approach to fuzzy linear regression analysis

    , Article Applied Mathematics and Computation ; Volume 155, Issue 3 , 2004 , Pages 873-881 ; 00963003 (ISSN) Nasrabadi, M. M ; Nasrabadi, E ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
Most of previous studies on fuzzy regression analysis have a common characteristic of increasing spreads for the estimated fuzzy responses as the independent variable increases its magnitude, which is not suitable for general cases. In this paper, fuzzy linear regression models with fuzzy/crisp output, fuzzy/crisp input are considered, and an estimated method along with a mathematical-programming-based approach is proposed. The advantages of the proposed approach are simplicity in programming and computation, and minimum difference of total spread between observed and estimated values. © 2003 Elsevier Inc. An algorithm for finding a feasible solution of graph labeling problems

    , Article Utilitas Mathematica ; Volume 72 , 2007 , Pages 163-174 ; 03153681 (ISSN) Eshghi, K ; Azimi, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
A labeling (or valuation) of a graph G = (V, E) is a map that carries graph elements to numbers (usually to the positive or non-negative integers). The two famous labeling methods are called graceful labeling and edge-magic total labeling. A function f is called a graceful labeling of graph G with m edges if f is an injection from the vertices of G to the set {0, 1,...,m} such that when each edge (x, y) is assigned the label |f(x) - f(y)|, the resulting edge labels are distinct. An edge-magic total labeling is another well-known labeling that was motivated by the notion of magic squares in number theory. Despite the large number of papers published on the subject of graph labeling, there are...

Fuzzy linear regression analysis from the point of view risk

    , Article International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowlege-Based Systems ; Volume 12, Issue 5 , 2004 , Pages 635-649 ; 02184885 (ISSN) Modarres, M ; Nasrabadi, E ; Nasrabadi, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, fuzzy linear regression models with fuzzy/crisp output, fuzzy/crisp input are considered. In this regard, we define risk-neutral, risk-averse and risk-seeking fuzzy linear regression models. In order to do that, two equality indices are applied to express the degree of equality between a pair of fuzzy numbers. We also develop three mathematical models to obtain the parameters of fuzzy linear regression models. Minimizing the difference between the total spread of the observed and estimated values is the objective of these models. The advantage of our proposed models is the simplicity in programming and computation

A genetic optimization algorithm and perceptron learning rules for a bi-criteria parallel machine scheduling

    , Article Journal of the Chinese Institute of Industrial Engineers ; Volume 29, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 206-218 ; 10170669 (ISSN) Fazlollahtabar, H ; Hassanzadeh, R ; Mahdavi, I ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This work considers scheduling problems minding the setup and removal times of jobs rather than processing times. For some production systems, setup times and removal times are so important to be considered independent of processing times. In general, jobs are performed according to the automatic machine processing in production systems, and the processing times are considered to be constant regardless of the process sequence. As the human factor can influence the setup and removal times, when the setup process is repetitive the setup times decreases. This fact is considered as learning effect in scheduling literature. In this study, a bi-criteria m-identical parallel machines scheduling...

A new linear adjacency approach for facility layout problem with unequal area departments

    , Article Journal of Manufacturing Systems ; Volume 37, Part 1 , October , 2015 , Pages 93-103 ; 02786125 (ISSN) Ghassemi Tari, F ; Neghabi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2015
    Abstract
In this study a new version of adjacency, which provides a more flexible layout design, is proposed. In the proposed version, departments which are nonadjacent yet close to each other are considered to be adjacent with a smaller adjacency rating. It is shown that the proposed adjacency is a generalized version of the traditional adjacency. A mathematical programming model is developed for the proposed facility layout problem. To show the flexibility and efficacy of the proposed model, a computational study is conducted. The solution of an illustrative example as well as the solutions of several test problems, reveal flexibility and efficacy of the proposed model

Constructing an optimal facility layout to maximize adjacency as a function of common boundary length

    , Article Engineering Optimization ; Volume 50, Issue 3 , 2018 , Pages 499-515 ; 0305215X (ISSN) Ghassemi Tari, F ; Neghabi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Taylor and Francis Ltd  2018
    Abstract
An effective facility layout implies that departments with high flow are laid adjacent. However, in the case of a very narrow boundary length between the neighbouring departments, the adjacency would actually be useless. In traditional layout design methods, a score is generally assigned independent of the department’s boundary length. This may result in a layout design with a restricted material flow. This article proposes a new concept of adjacency in which the department pairs are laid adjacent with a wider path. To apply this concept, a shop with unequal rectangular departments is contemplated and a mathematical programming model with the objective of maximizing the sum of the adjacency...

    Abstract
The optimization of chemical syntheses based on superstructure modeling is a perfect way for achieving the optimal plant design. However, the combinatorial optimization problem arising from this method is very difficult to solve, particularly for the entire plant. Relevant literature has focused on the use of mathematical programming approaches. Some research has also been conducted based on meta-heuristic algorithms. In this paper, two approaches are presented to optimize process synthesis superstructure. Firstly, mathematical formulation of a superstructure model is presented. Then, an ant colony algorithm is proposed for solving this nonlinear combinatorial problem. In order to ensure...

Some relations among term rank, clique number and list chromatic number of a graph

    , Article Discrete Mathematics ; Volume 306, Issue 23 SPEC. ISS , 2006 , Pages 3078-3082 ; 0012365X (ISSN) Akbari, S ; Fanaï, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2006
    Abstract
Let G be a graph with a nonempty edge set, we denote the rank of the adjacency matrix of G and term rank of G, by rk (G) and Rk (G), respectively. van Nuffelen conjectured that for any graph G, χ (G) ≤ rk (G). The first counterexample to this conjecture was obtained by Alon and Seymour. In 2002, Fishkind and Kotlov proved that for any graph G, χ (G) ≤ Rk (G). Here we improve this upper bound and show that χl (G) ≤ (rk (G) + Rk (G)) / 2, where χl (G) is the list chromatic number of G. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Abstract
This paper presents a new approach for determining the day-ahead bidding strategies of a large-scale hybrid electric energy company. The company has both energy generation and energy retailing businesses in a competitive electricity market. Demand response programs are also considered in the retail side of the company in order to hedge the risk of participation in wholesale market. This paper introduces a max-min bilevel mathematical programming with equilibrium constraint model for offering a strategy that manages the risk of uncertain forecasted rivals' bids by robust optimization. The max-min bilevel model is converted to its equivalent single-level optimization using Karush-Kuhn-Tucker...

    Abstract
As part of its Paris Agreement commitment, Iran pledged to decrease 4 % of its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from 2020 to 2030. About 29% of total emission in Iran belongs to electricity supply while energy consumption in other sectors (transport, household, and industry) have a lower share in CO2 emission. The main concern here is finding the optimal mix of power plants in the electricity supply system that should be deployed to meet Iran’s mentioned respective targets and considering simultaneously interests of consumers and producers in this energy system. So, we developed a non-linear mathematical programming model for Iran’s electricity system to address this concern with changing...

A survey on multi-floor facility layout problems

    , Article Computers and Industrial Engineering ; Volume 107 , 2017 , Pages 158-170 ; 03608352 (ISSN) Ahmadi, A ; Pishvaee, M. S ; Akbari Jokar, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Facility layout problem is a well-known optimization problem which generally deals with the arrangement of the facilities required in an organization. This problem has received much attention during the past decades. However, the researchers have mainly focused on the case where a single floor is available. While, in the competitive world, it is clear that using multi-floor structure layouts are much more efficient and in some cases necessary due to the nature of the functions and activities performed in the firms. Hence, this issue has recently attracted much attention and is becoming increasingly popular. Nevertheless, the lack of a review study on this subject for directing the new...

An integrated mathematical programming model for a dynamic cellular manufacturing system with limited resources

    , Article International Journal of Services and Operations Management ; Volume 37, Issue 1 , January , 2020 , Pages 1-26 Mehdizadeh, E ; Shamoradifar, M ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper proposes an integrated integer nonlinear programming model for a concurrent cell formation and production planning problem in a dynamic cell-manufacturing system (DCMS) with limited resources to setup cells and to procure machines. The proposed model seeks to minimise the total costs associated with the production planning and the cell construction and formation under a dynamic system. To validate the model, it is first converted to a linear programming. Then, a numerical example is presented based on which the branch and bound method is used to solve it employing the Lingo 8 software. Besides, due to NP-hardness of the problem, two meta-heuristic algorithms namely a GA and a PSO...

    Abstract
Nowadays, the incorporation of wind power in electrical grids and electricity markets is grown. Due to the fluctuation of wind speed, one of the main challenges of wind power would be selling power directly to the wholesale markets. A method for solving this challenge is coordination of wind power with energy storages, cascaded hydro, or gas turbine units in bidding strategy and operation. By coordinating with gas turbine units, wind power can be incorporated in real-time markets with fewer capital costs. In this paper, a stochastic bi-level optimization is proposed for coordinated wind power and gas turbine units in the real-time market. The uncertainties of wind power, demands, rivals'...
