Analysis of an engine mounting structure of an aircraft with the purpose of accurate adjustment

    , Article 2nd International Conference on Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, ICMAE 2011, Bangkok, 29 July 2011 through 31 July 2011 ; Volume 110-116 , Oct , 2012 , Pages 4522-4526 ; 16609336 (ISSN) ; 9783037852620 (ISBN) Ebrahimi, M ; Niaki, S. A ; Salarieh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In airplanes, engine mounting structures have two primary performances: 1- They sustain all loads which engines produces or those which are exerted on engines in different maneuvering conditions. 2- They make the thrust load and the centric line of its containing cabin concentric [1]. In this paper, analysis of a mounting engine structure with the purpose of the accurate adjustment of the engine in its cabin is presented. Some sample diagrams, which introduced ideal adjustment angles for a specific aircraft, is proposed. These diagrams are obtained with the help of a MATLAB program that can be used for any dimension of the engine and cabin. Therefore, with the aid of these diagrams or this...

Neutronic simulation of a pebble bed reactor considering its double heterogeneous nature

    , Article Nuclear Engineering and Design ; Volume 253 , 2012 , Pages 277-284 ; 00295493 (ISSN) Abedi, A ; Vosoughi, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In pebble bed reactors, the core is filled with thousands of graphite and fuel pebbles. Fuel pebbles in these reactors consist of TRISO particles, which are embedded in a graphite matrix stochastically. The reactor core is also stochastically filled with pebbles. These two stochastic geometries comprise the so-called double heterogeneous nature of this type of reactor. In this paper, a pebble bed reactor, the HTR-10, is used to demonstrate a treatment of this double heterogeneity using the MCNP5 Monte Carlo code and MATLAB programming. In this technique, TRISO particles are modeled in a pebble using the expanded FILL and LATTICE features of MCNP5. MATLAB is used to generate random numbers...

A risk-based MILP approach for optimal placement of flammable gas detectors

    Abstract
Gas detectors play an important role in safety of process plants. In-time detection of flammable gas releases may prevent major fire and explosion as well as property loss in process plants. One of the challenges of the gas detection system design is determining the best layout for detectors in order to reduce the risk of gas releases as much as possible. However, current methods do not address the risk concept in placement of detectors quantitatively. A risk-based methodology is proposed for optimal placement of point type flammable gas detectors in which first the risk (defined as a combination of scenario frequency, delayed ignition probability and damage) is estimated for any release...

A methodology for analyzing the transient availability and survivability of a system with every combination of components by using fault tree

    , Article Journal of Applied Sciences ; Volume 9, Issue 6 , 2009 , Pages 1074-1081 ; 18125654 (ISSN) Amiri, M ; Ghassemi Tari, F ; Rahimi Mazrae Shahi, M ; Salehi Sadaghiani , J ; Mahtasshami, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to offer a new method for transient analysis of availability and survivability of a system with the identical components and one repairman and with every combination of components either standard system for example series systems, parallel systems, stand-by systems and K out of N systems or complex system. This method is a technique for fault tree evaluation too. The considered system is supposed to consist of n components and there are some composition of them that systems the failure occurs when one of its composition occur. Some concepts such as fault tree, Markov models, Eigen vectors and Eigen values are employed for analyzing the transient availability...

Optimization assisted asphaltene deposition modeling in porous media during a natural depletion scheme

    , Article Petroleum Science and Technology ; Volume 30, Issue 9 , Mar , 2012 , Pages 958-965 ; 10916466 (ISSN) Hematfar, V ; Bagheri, M ; Kharrat, R ; Ghazanfari, M ; Ghotbi, C ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Changes in thermodynamic properties such as pressure, temperature, and composition may result in asphaltene precipitation and deposition in porous media. In addition, asphaltene deposition can cause wettability alteration, permeability reduction, and ultimately a decrease in the productivity of a reservoir. Natural depletion is one of the most common processes of asphaltene deposition in which pressure changes destabilize the dissolved asphaltene in the oil and settle them onto the rock surface. In this work, natural depletion experiments in consolidated core samples were performed under simulated reservoir conditions to obtain reliable data and analyze the asphaltene deposition mechanisms....

Theoretical investigations of methane conversion to heavier hydrocarbons in a plasma reactor

    , Article Advanced Materials Research, 2012, Chengdu ; Volume 548 , 5- 6 May , 2012 , Pages 153-159 ; 10226680 (ISSN) ; 9783037854532 (ISBN) Kazemeini, M ; Zare, M. H ; Safabakhsh, N ; Ferdosi, S. R ; Fattahi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, mathematical modelling of oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) to C 2 hydrocarbons (C 2H 6 and C 2H 4) over La 2O 3/CaO catalyst in a fixed-bed reactor operated under isothermal and non-isothermal conditions was investigated using the MATLAB program. In this process, methane and acetylene were the inputted feed and ethane, ethylene, propylene, propane, i-butane and n-butane were the output products. The amount of methane conversion obtained was 12.7% for the former feed however; if pure methane was inputted this conversion rose to 13.8%. Furthermore, the plasma process would enhance the conversion, selectivity towards desired product and process yield. A comparison between the...
