    Abstract
An analytical-numerical method to determine the dynamic response of beams with various boundary conditions subjected to a moving mass under a pulsating force is explained. Governing partial differential equations of the system are changed to a convenience type of ordinary differential equations to be solved through a Runge-Kutta scheme. Pulsating force specifications influenced the dynamic response of the beam depending on the moving mass properties. Results showed the significant effect of the boundary conditions on the dynamic response of the beam, which was considered rarely in the past. Stiffening the constraints reduces the maximum stresses in the beams. Results for identical...

Hydroelastic criterion for an inclined flat plate in vertical and oblique impacts

    , Article Applied Ocean Research ; Volume 79 , 2018 , Pages 173-183 ; 01411187 (ISSN) Moradi, H ; Rahbar Ranji, A ; Haddadpour, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A two-dimensional semi-analytical model is applied for the analysis of hydroelastic effect during vertical and oblique impacts of flexible inclined plates with different boundary conditions (BCs). Hydrodynamic pressure is calculated using Wagner's theory and the structural deformation is presented as a linear combination of dry normal modes. A longitudinal strip is used as an approximation of the longitudinal bending of a plate. Model predictions are validated by comparing with the available experimental data, semi-analytical model, and asymptotic approaches for vertical and oblique impacts of the plate with different BCs. The water impact is analyzed with two viewpoints of rigid and...

    Abstract
In this research, the effect of adding graphene-based aerogel ((G)A) nanoparticles on the tensile and fatigue behavior of the epoxy polymer was investigated. Specimens of nanocomposites were prepared by adding 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1, and 2 wt.-% (G)A nanoparticles to the epoxy polymer. Tensile tests revealed that the 0.1 wt.-% graphene-based aerogel/ epoxy ((G)A/E) nanocomposites had the highest increase in tensile strength with 19 % growth compared to neat epoxy. Also, the tensile modulus increased by 15 % in the 0.5 wt.-% (G)A/E nanocomposites. A substantial improvement in fatigue life of the epoxy polymer was observed on adding 0.1 wt.-% (G)A nanoparticles. For instance, the fatigue life...

Hot workability of a high carbon high chromium tool steel

    , Article Materials and Design ; Volume 46 , 2013 , Pages 654-659 ; 02641275 (ISSN) Akbarzadeh, A ; Naghdy, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this work, hot tension tests were conducted on as cast and wrought samples of a high carbon high chromium tool steel to study the hot workability under the rolling conditions. The flow curves illustrate the classical shape of dynamic recrystallization (DRX). It is observed that broken carbide nets in the wrought samples result in lower deformation activation energy 398. kJ/mol in comparison to the as cast samples 432. kJ/mol. Necking strains were calculated using the inflection point of the work-hardening (θ) vs. stress curves. Wrought samples show higher hot ductility and lower maximum stress than the as cast ones. It is shown that lower activation energy of deformation and lower stress...

Microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-20Si-5Fe-2X (X = Cu, Ni, Cr) alloys produced by melt-spinning

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 492, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 443-449 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Rajabi, M ; Simchi, A ; Davami, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Al-20Si-5Fe-2X (X = Cu, Ni and Cr) ribbons were produced by melt-spinning and consolidated by hot pressing at 400 °C for 60 min. The microstructure of the ribbons and the consolidated alloys was investigated using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD) method, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The hardness and compressive strength of the specimens at ambient and elevated temperatures were examined. The microstructure of the ribbons exhibited featureless and dendritic zones. Results of XRD and TEM showed formation of spherically shaped Si particles with an average diameter of 20 nm. Ultrafine Si (110-150 nm) and iron-containing...

    Abstract
The aim of this study was to use finite element analysis (FEA) to assess the influence of microthread design at the implant neck on stress distribution in the surrounding bone. A commercially available implant with 3.5 mm diameter and 10.5 mm length was selected and used as a model. For the purpose of designing the microthread implant model, microthreads were added to the implant neck in a computerized model. A force measuring 100 N was then applied to the entire surface of the abutment in the vertical direction. The results showed that in both models, stress was mainly concentrated at the cortical bone adjacent to the neck of the implant. Maximum stress values in the cortical bone...
