Automatic Skin Cancer (Melanoma) Detection Using Visual Features

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moazen, Hadi (Author) ; Jamzad, Mansour (Supervisor)
Melanoma is a malignant skin cancer which is caused by cancerous growth of melanocytes. If not treated at its early development stages, melanoma is the deadliest form of cancer. The best way to cure melanoma is to treat it in its earliest stage of development. Since a melanoma leasion is similar to benign moles (regaring its shape and appearance) at its early stages of development, it is often mistaken for moles and left untreated. Therefore, automatic melanoma detection can increase the survival rate of patients by detecting melanoma in its early stages. In this thesis, a new method for automatic diagnosis of melanoma using segmented dermoscopic images is provided. Almost all related...

In Vitro Study of Drug Release from the Metal-organic Frameworks (MOFs) for Melanoma Cancer Drug Delivery

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Barjasteh, Mahdi (Author) ; Vossoughi, Manouchehr (Supervisor) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor) ; Pooshang Bagheri, Kamran (Co-Supervisor)
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a new class of biocompatible nanomaterials with high specific surface area, which provide the possibility of loading various therapeutic agents. Considering the few studies on the use of MOFs in melanoma cancer treatment, the main goal of this research is to investigate the loading and controlling the release of dacarbazine (DTIC) and also the interaction of DTIC and MOF structure in aqueous environments. Based on this, this study was done in three main parts. In the first part, several types of well-known and often used structures in the drug delivery field, including ZIF-8 (based on zinc), MIL-101-NH2(Fe), and MIL-100(Fe) (both based on iron), were...

Modelling and Simulation of Melanoma Cancer, Based on Cellular Automata Approaches

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rad, Jaber (Author) ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
Nowadays, M&S is critical as a powerful tool for human to fight against cancer. Skin cancer is one of the most widespread cancers and melanoma would be the most dangerous kind of it. In cancerous micro-environment, cancer cells interact with vasculature, and compete with normal cells over nutrients. This plays a major role in tumor progression pattern and speed. In recent years, a few multiscale models have been developed considering these phenomena. Such a model provides a platform for future researches, especially in drug effects prediction. A reliable simulation must satisfy the constraints and facts in the real world as much as possible. M&S credibility assessment is a major concern to...

Rapid Estimation of SF Parameter of Cells Using the Monte Carlo Simulation of Proton Therapy in Combination with Cascade Feed-forward Neural Network (CFNN)with LM Learning Algorithm

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Barati, Roya (Author) ; Vosoughi, Naser (Supervisor)
In radiation therapy, different radiation were used to cancer treatment. The use of hadrons is more common than gamma rays for cancer treatment. Hadron therapy is appropriate to treat cancers that are close to organs at risk and can be severely damaged by X-rays during treatment. The survival fraction of cells was irradiated is important during treatment. In this study, using Geant code, simulation of choroidal melanoma tumor in the phantom of the eye was performed. The linear energy transfer and dose data of proton beam radiation were calculated, in addition, the cell survival fraction were calculated using Survival codeand the Geant simulation data such as number of inputs and dose with...
