    Abstract
Abstract: Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have always been among the most popular topics in science fiction (sci-fi) movies. This paper endeavors to review popular movies containing Fictional Robots (FR) to extract the most common characteristics and interesting design ideas of robots portrayed in science fiction. To this end, 134 sci-fi films, including 108 unique FRs, were investigated regarding the robots’ different design aspects (e.g., appearance design, interactive design and artificial intelligence, and ethical and social design). Also, in each section of this paper, some characteristics of FRs are compared with real social robots. Since some researches point to the...

The Pt/Ni modified TiO 2 nanotubes and its catalytic activity toward glucose

    , Article ECS Transactions, 1 May 2011 through 6 May 2011 ; Volume 35, Issue 35 , May , 2011 , Pages 63-69 ; 19385862 (ISSN) ; 9781607682950 (ISBN) Mahshid, S. S ; Mahshid, S ; Ghahremaninezhad, A ; Dolati, A ; Ghorbani, M ; Luo, S ; Yang, L ; Cai, Q ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The catalytic activity of Pt/Ni/TiO 2 nanotubes electrode toward glucose has been studied. Fabrication of Pt/Ni nanostructures was done in a single-bath solution through electrochemical pulse method by changing the deposition potential between -0.3 and -4 V vs. SCE, respectively. The resulting modified electrode represented high conductivity due to the effective presence of metallic components and uniform surface area caused by dispersion of Pt and Ni nanostructures. The scanning electron microscopy images also confirmed that a large amount of metals colonies were well-dispersed at the edge of the TiO 2 nanotubes. In addition, the Pt/Ni TiO 2 nanotubes modified electrode exhibited an...

Probabilistic simulation of fatigue damage and life scatter of metallic components

    , Article International Journal of Plasticity ; Volume 43 , April , 2013 , Pages 101-115 ; 07496419 (ISSN) Naderi, M ; Hoseini, S. H ; Khonsari, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A three-dimensional (3D) finite element model (FEM) is developed to predict the progressive fatigue damage with provision for stochastic distribution of material properties. Fatigue damage model for low and high cycle fatigue considering plastic deformation is implemented in the FEM and the results are presented for Al 6061-T6, Al 7075-T6, Ti 6Al-4V and SS 316. Comparisons of the numerical and experimental results of stress-life reveal the validity of the approach. Also presented is the result of an investigation showing the effect of element types, element size, variation of material properties, and initial flaws on the randomness of fatigue life. The present fatigue damage simulation...
