    Abstract
We have studied formation of Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles in sputtered SiO 2 thin films. Silica thin films containing Au-Ag nanoparticles were deposited on quartz substrates using rf reactive magnetron co-sputtering technique. The films heat-treated in reducing Ar + H 2 atmosphere at different temperatures. They were analyzed by using UV-vis spectrophotometry, atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) methods for their optical, surface morphological as well as structural and chemical properties. The optical absorption of the Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles illustrated one plasmon resonance absorption peak located at 450 nm between the absorption bands of pure Au and Ag...

Synthesis and optical properties of Au decorated colloidal tungsten oxide nanoparticles

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Volume 355 , November , 2015 , Pages 884-890 ; 01694332 (ISSN) Tahmasebi, N ; Mahdavi, S. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, colloidal tungsten oxide nanoparticles were fabricated by pulsed laser ablation of tungsten target using the first harmonic of a Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) in deionized water. After ablation, a 0.33 g/lit HAuCl4 aqueous solution was added into as-prepared colloidal nanoparticles. In this process, Au3+ ions were reduced to decorate gold metallic state (Au0) onto colloidal tungsten oxide nanoparticles surface. The morphology and chemical composition of the synthesized nanoparticles were studied by AFM, XRD, TEM and XPS techniques. UV-Vis analysis reveals a distinct absorption peak at ∼530 nm. This peak can be attributed to the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Au and confirms...

Storage of Ag nanoparticles in pore-arrays of SU-8 matrix for antibacterial applications

    Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (NPs) stored in pore-arrays (pa) SU-8 photoresist layer were utilized as an antibacterial nanocomposition against E. coli bacteria. The pa-SU-8 matrix was fabricated by an optical interference lithography method resulting in small pores with a diameter of ∼50 nm and a depth of ∼100 nm. The Ag NPs were deposited on the soft polymeric matrix at different drying temperatures of 50 and 90 °C. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that the deposited silver NPs were substantially in the metallic state, independent from the drying condition. However, the concentration of the immobilized Ag NPs on the film surface increased (by a factor of 2.5) at the higher drying...

Mössbauer and magnetic studies of iron-zeolite and iron-cobalt zeolite catalysts used in synthesis gas conversion

    Abstract
Medium-pore (diameter - 6A) zeolites such as ZSM-5 and silicalite impregnated with Group VIII metals provide selective catalytic pathways for the conversion of synthesis gas to gasoline or olefins. Mössbauer and magnetic studies on these catalysts containing iron or iron plus cobalt are reported. The zeolites were impregnated with metal nitrate solutions, reduced, and carbided to yield showed Fe3+ type spectra. The ZSM-5 (14.7 % Fe) and Silicalite (13.6 % Fe) samples exposed to H2 (450 C) showed an approximate 85% reduction to the metallic state. The carbided ZSM-5 (14.7 % Fe) revealed a spectrum of Hagg carbide (Fe5C2), an active component of the catalyst. The used catalysts showed mixtures...

Visible light active Au:TiO2 nanocomposite photoanodes for water splitting: Sol-gel vs. sputtering

    , Article Electrochimica Acta ; Volume 56, Issue 3 , January , 2011 , Pages 1150-1158 ; 00134686 (ISSN) Naseri, N ; Sangpour, P ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
In this study, pure TiO2 and Au:TiO2 nanocomposite thin films are both synthesized using sol-gel and RF reactive co-sputtering methods. Physical and photoelectrochemical properties of the thin films deposited by each method are compared. The optical density spectra and scanning electron microscopy images of the Au:TiO2 films reveal formation of gold nanoparticles in the all nanocomposite films synthesized by two methods. Moreover, the optical bandgap energy of the thin films decreases with addition of Au nanoparticles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicates that the presence of gold in metallic state and the formation of TiO2 is stoichiometric. The photoelectrochemical properties of the...

Metal-nonmetal transition in the copper-carbon nanocomposite films

    Abstract
We prepared Cu nanoparticles in a-C:H thin films by co-deposition of RF-sputtering and RF-PECVD methods at room temperature. By increasing Cu content in these films a nonmetalmetal (NM) transition is observed. This transition is explainable by the power law of percolation theory. The critical metal content is obtained 56% and the critical exponent is obtained 1.6, which is larger than the exponent for 2 dimension systems and smaller than the one for 3 dimension systems. The electrical conductivity of dielectric samples was explained by tunneling. Activation tunneling energy that was obtained from temperature dependence of electrical resistivity correlates with near infrared absorption peak...

    Abstract
In this investigation, the effect of gold nanocrystals on the electrochromical properties of sol-gel Au doped WO3 thin films has been studied. The Au-WO3 thin films were dip-coated on both glass and indium tin oxide coated conducting glass substrates with various gold concentrations of 0, 3.2 and 6.4 mol%. Optical properties of the samples were studied by UV-visible spectrophotometry in a range of 300-1100 nm. The optical density spectra of the films showed the formation of gold nanoparticles in the films. The optical bandgap energy of Au-WO3 films decreased with increasing the Au concentration. Crystalline structure of the doped films was investigated by X-ray diffractometry, which...

    Abstract
Gold-silver alloy nanoparticles with various Au concentrations in sputtered SiO2 thin films were synthesized by using RF reactive magnetron co-sputtering and then heat-treated in reducing Ar + H2 atmosphere at different temperatures. The UV-visible absorption spectra of the bimetallic systems confirmed the formation of alloy nanoparticles. The optical absorption of the Au-Ag alloy nanoparticles exhibited only one plasmon resonance absorption peak located at 450 nm between the absorption bands of pure Au and Ag nanoparticles at 400 and 520 nm, respectively, for the thin films annealed at 800 °C. The maximum absorption wavelength of the surface plasmon band showed a red shift with increasing...
