Analysis of chaotic behavior in an optical microresonator

    , Article Optics Communications ; Vol. 332, issue , 2014 , pp. 31-35 ; ISSN: 00304018 Vahedi, M ; Bahrampour, A. R ; Safari, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, for the first time, chaotic behavior of a classical moving-mirror Fabry-Perot cavity is obtained by finding numerical solution of a system of delay differential equations (previously obtained by a phenomenological approach (T. Carmon, M. C. Cross, K. J. Vahala, Phys. Rev. Lett. 98 (2007) 167203)). Fourier transform of the electromagnetic power for different values of pump power is calculated. By increasing the power, a period-doubling route to chaos is observed. Since the quality factor of the cavity has an important role in the chaotic behavior, variation of Lyapunov exponent and threshold power for the onset of chaos versus quality factor are investigated. A near linear...

Nonlinear dynamics of electrostatically actuated micro-resonator: Analytical solution by homotopy perturbation method

    , Article IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics, AIM ; July , 2014 , p. 1284-1289 Tajaddodianfar, F ; Yazdi, M. H ; Pishkenari, H. N ; Miandoab, E. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Dynamic behavior of a electrostatically actuated MEMS resonator is investigated. A double clamped micro-beam under distributed DC and AC actuation is used. Corresponding single degree of freedom model is derived using Galerkin's decomposition method. Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) is implemented in order to derive analytical expression for frequency response of the micro-resonator. Comparison of the obtained results with the numerical simulations confirms that HPM agrees very well with numerical simulations for a wide range of parameters. Obtained analytical solution can be used for design and optimization of MEMS resonators

Micro resonator nonlinear dynamics considering intrinsic properties

    Abstract
One of the most important phenomena to affect the motion behaviour of Micro Resonators is their thermal dependency. This has recently received the attention of researchers widely. A thermal phenomenon has two main effects, the first is damping, due to internal friction, and the second is softening, due to Young's modulus-temperature relationship. In this research work, some theoretical and experimental reported results are used to make a proper model, including thermal phenomena. Two Lorentzian functions are used to describe the restoring and damping forces caused by thermal phenomena. In order to emphasize the thermal effects, a nonlinear model of the MEMS, considering capacitor...

Dynamics and vibration analysis of an electrostatically actuated FGM microresonator involving flexural and torsional modes

    Abstract
In this paper a nonlinear pedal like microresonator made of Functionally Graded material is introduced and modeled. Using Lagrangian formulation nonlinear equations of motion of the system are derived and the natural frequencies and mode shapes are extracted by linear analysis. The effects of various parameters such as geometry, FG material index and DC voltages on the natural frequencies and mode shapes are investigated. Static pull-in voltages of the system are obtained and it is found that depending on the type of actuation, both softening and hardening behaviors can be observed in the system. The results are compared with previous studies and finite element method where a good agreement...

    Abstract
Distant, dusty and extremely luminous galaxies form a key component of the high redshift universe, tracing the period of intense cosmic activity that ultimately gave rise to the present-day universe. These highly luminous galaxies, first detected in the ground-based submillimeter region, are however optically very faint, which hampers identification of the optical counterpart and the measurement of a redshift. We are developing a new direct-detection submm spectrograph DESHIMA. By taking advantage of the rapidly advancing technology of superconducting microresonators, DESHIMA will revolutionize the appearance and capabilities of a submm spectrograph. There will no longer be large grating...

    Abstract
The field enhancement in micro resonators causes the Raman amplification enhancement in them. Micro resonators can be connected to form sequence in variety of ways. The various structures such as single channel and double channel side coupled integrated space sequence of resonators (SClSSORs) can be used as Raman amplifier with different performances. In this paper, a silicon micro-ring coupled-resonator optical waveguide (CROW) is considered as a bandpass Raman amplifier. We introduce an iterative matrix method for analysis the CROW Raman amplifier. This method is applied to the single pump and single input for silicon CROW Raman amplifiers, and the effects of physical parameters of the...
