    Improvement in TiO2 photocatalytic performance by ZrO2 nanocompositing and immobilizing

    Abstract
    In this work, the effect of addition of ZrO2 to TiO2 and catalyst geometry on photocatalytic properties of the nanocomposite TiO2/ZrO2 was investigated. The traditional use of powdery photocatalyst for the degradation of organic compounds has post-treatment problems which means much higher time and costs. A novel method to minimize these problems is immobilization by insertion onto an inert substrate. Several geometries of TiO2–10%ZrO2 (T-10Z) nano-photocatalysts (powder, fiber, film, and network-shaped) were produced using different templates.     Abstract
    Fibrous biomaterials have received much attention in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine due to their morphology, resembling extracellular matrix. In comparison to synthetic fibers, cellulose based fibers have interesting properties for cellular applications such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, simple preparation and their potential for chemical modification.     Abstract
    Direct near field electrospinning is used to produce very long helical polystyrene microfibers in water. The pitch length of helices can be controlled by changing the applied voltage, allowing the production of both microsprings and microchannels. Using a novel high frequency variable voltage electrospinning method we determined the helix formation speed and compared the experimental buckling frequency to theoretical expressions for viscous and elastic buckling. Finally we showed that the new method can be used to produce new periodic micro and nano structures

    Abstract
    One-dimensional (1D) MgO structures were successfully synthesized via carbothermic reduction of mechanically activated mixture of MgO and graphite. Mechanical activation of source materials before carbothermic reduction can substantially enhance the formation of MgO products at a temperature (1000 °C) relatively lower than that required in previous approaches (≥1200 °C). However, the morphology of MgO formed is dependent on the degree of mechanical activation and the condition of the subsequent carbothermic reduction. Two distinctive morphologies were found for MgO products synthesized using our method: single crystalline nanorods with rectangular cross-sections whose diameters range from 50...
