Preparation and Characterization of Electrospun Nanofiberous Membranes for Wastewater Treatment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seyed Shahabadi, Mahdi (Author) ; Bastani, Daruoosh (Supervisor) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The aim of the current project is preparation, characterization and microfiltration evaluation of nanofiberous membrane. In order to prepare membranes, the electrospinning method was utilized and polyacrylonitrile and N-N, dimethylformamide (DMF) were used as the polymer and the solvent, respectively. As the nanofiber diameter controls the structure of the membrane and also bead formation reduces the membrane uniformity, at first the effects of four most influential electrospinning parameters, such as solution concentration, applied voltage, floe rate, and the distance between needle tip and the collector, on average fiber diameter and bead area density were investigated via response surface...

Performance Evaluation of Membrane Bioreactors in Treating Municipal Wastewater

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hatami Bahman Beyglou, Elnaz (Author) ; Torkian, Ayoub (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Membrane bioreactors can replace the activated sludge process and the final clarification step in municipal wastewater treatment. The combination of bioreactor and crossflow microfiltration allows for a high chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction of synthetic wastewater. In this study, experimental data from a laboratory scale membrane bioreactor are presented. In order to investigate the influence of various operating parameters such as hydraulic retention time (HRT), biomass concentration and organic loading rate on organic pollutant removal, the pilot scale submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR) with a Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane module was conducted using synthetic...
