    Abstract
Addition of fine zirconia particles in the alumina matrix in order to produce ZTA composite is a well-known method for improving the mechanical properties of alumina ceramics such as flexural strength and fracture toughness. Increasing homogeneity and reducing alumina grain size are two key factors for achieving proper mechanical properties in this ceramic matrix composite. In this work two batches of ZTA powder precursor were prepared through mixing of alumina and zirconia by ball milling and in situ synthesis of ZTA composite via solution combustion method. The bending strength testing samples were fabricated through gel-casting process. The effects of different powder processing methods...

    Abstract
In this study, the hardness inhomogeneity of billets during multi-passes of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) at elevated temperatures is investigated and the effect of large strain deformation during ECAP on the hardness inhomogeneity characteristics due to dynamic aging of aluminum 6061 under a variety of temperatures and ram speed was studied by TEM and hardness measurements. The hardness results showed that the hardness distribution is more homogenous after four passes using the pressing route Bc. However, when the deformation temperature was considered, performing ECAP at 100 C may provide the most homogeneous microstructure after multi-pressing as long as the total number of...

    Abstract
Friction stir processing (FSP) is a solid state route with a capacity of preparing fine grained nanocomposites from metal sheets. In this work, we employed this process to finely distribute TiO2 nanoparticles throughout an Al-Mg alloy, aiming to enhance mechanical properties. Titanium dioxide particles (30 nm) were preplaced into grooves machined in the middle of the aluminium alloy sheet and multipass FSP was afforded. This process refined the grain structure of the aluminium alloy, distributed the hard nanoparticles in the matrix and promoted solid state chemical reactions at the interfaces of the metal/ceramic particles. Detailed optical and electron microscopic studies showed that the...

The effect of current density on microstructural homogeneity, hardness, fracture toughness and electrochemical behavior of electrodeposited Cu-0.5Co/WC nano-composite coating

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 24, Issue 6 , 2017 , Pages 3505-3511 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Khaleghpanah, Sh ; Abachi, P ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The Cu-0.5Co/WC nano-composite coating was synthesized on CP-copper substrate using Direct Current (DC) electrodeposition method. In this work, it was tried to increase the hardness of surface without considerable degradation of copper's particular physical properties such as electrical conductivity. The effect of current density on microstructural homogeneity, hardness, fracture toughness, and electrochemical behavior of coating was investigated. The copper plates with the purity of 99.99% were used as electrodes. The electrolyte consists of tungsten carbide particles (30 g/l), copper sulfate (200 g/l), sulfuric acid (50 g/l), cobalt sulfate (50 g/l), and Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) (0.3...
