, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Saeede (Author) ; Maghsoodi, Vida (Supervisor) ; Yaghmaei, Soheila (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The most important desire of all researchers in food industry is decreasing the contamination of foods and increasing their shelf life. Due to harmfulness of chemical preservatives their use has been limited and therefore natural antimicrobials have been demanded. Recently spices have been noticed as natural antimicrobial agents. Sumac is a kind of spice which has antibacterial and antioxidant activities. The aim of this project is to investigate effects of water and alcoholic extracts of Iranian red sumac comparatively on three gram positive bacteria (Bacillus coagulans , Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus) and one gram negative (Escherichia coli) by well and disk diffusion method....

In vitro bactericidal and drug release properties of vancomycin-amino surface functionalized bioactive glass nanoparticles

    Abstract
Bioactive glass has been used clinically in bone repair applications for bone grafting because of its prominent physiochemical and osteogenic properties. Various attempts have been made to enhance bioactive glass efficiency in combination with other biomaterials such as antibiotics and growth factors. In present study, we developed a modification of bioactive glass nanoparticles that insured long term antibacterial effect. Bioactive glass nanoparticles (BGNs) were functionalized with (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTS), then vancomycin (VAN) was immobilized onto BGNs-APTS via EDC/NHS cross-linking process. Another study group namely BGNs-VAN was synthesized as a control group without any...

    Abstract
Niosomes, as a kind of drug delivery system, is widely used for the topical delivery of lipophilic drugs. Optimization of niosomes plays an essential role in enhancing their therapeutic efficiencies. This study aims to prepare an optimized niosomal formulation of simvastatin (nSIM), a lipophilic member of statins, through the experiment (Response Surface methodology). Optimized niosomes were characterized in size, polydispersity index (PDI), entrapment efficiency (EE), stability, releasing pattern, and antimicrobial activity. The different molar ratio of surfactant and cholesterol were applied to prepare various formulation of simvastatin loaded niosome. Mean particle size and size...
