    Abstract
A new hybrid method based on multimode contour integral and mode matching techniques will be introduced. It is capable of analyzing any H-plane discontinuity in a rectangular waveguide. The process is based on segmentation and dividing the structure into key building blocks. We use the multimode contour integral method to analyze the blocks including irregular shape H-plane discontinuities. In opposite to traditional contour integral method, which considers only the effect of dominant mode (TE10) on wave ports, multimode contour integral considers the effect of higher order modes (TE n0) excited by discontinuities on these ports. The mode matching technique will be used to analyze the...

    Abstract
A hybrid method is introduced for analysis of the H-plane waveguide discontinuities. It combines multimode contour integral and mode matching techniques. The process is based on dividing the circuit structure into key building blocks and finding the multimode scattering matrix of each block individually. The multimode scattering matrix of the whole structure can be found by cascading these blocks. Also contour integral method is developed for analysis of multi-media circuits. Therefore, it is possible to analyze H-plane waveguide filters with dielectric resonators using this method. The accuracy and run time of the purposed method is compared with those reported in literatures and/or Ansoft...

Low cost millimeter wave duplexer design using mixed mode-matching and integral contour methods

    , Article MMWaTT 2009 - 1st Conference on Millimeter-Wave and Terahertz Technologies, 29 December 2009 through 31 December 2009, Tehran ; 2009 , Pages 10-14 ; 9781424468089 (ISBN) Ghanadi, M ; Henke, H ; Banai, A ; Zamani, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A millimeter wave H-plane duplexer using E-plane filters has been designed. T-junction is used for connecting the channel filters compensated by cylindrical post and analyzed by integral contour method. Moreover the junction discontinuity effects have been taken into account. The combination of filters and compensated T-junction allows for low-cost manufacturing. The E-plane filters are analyzed separately, by mode matching method. The scattering parameters of the combination of filters and T-junction are obtained. The diameter and position of the compensating rod and length of T arms are optimized to achieve desired performance. This procedure saves time and memory in computations. The 38...

Multi-Conductor Transmission Line Models for Analysis of Metal-Dielectric -Metal Nanoplasmonic Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bahadori, Meisam (Author) ; Mehrany, Khashayar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The existing transmission line models of plasmonic nanostructures are modified in this thesis to study the electromagnetic characteristics of nano-plasmonic structures in a more efficeint yet accurate enough fashion. First, rectangular plasmonic cavities made by carving dielectric rectangles within a metallic region are modeled by trasnmission lines of finite length being appropriately terminated at their both ends. The resonance conditon in the proposed model yeilds the resonance frequencies, quality factors, and mode profiles of its correspondig plasmonic resonator. The accuracy of the proposed model is assessed by using the fully numerical finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD)...

    Abstract
In the majority of leaky-wave antennas (LWAs), the lack of broadside radiation is due to the existence of an open-stopband (OSB) at broadside. In this letter, we present a study on the OSB suppression in LWAs. In particular, we start from a simple unit cell comprising a planar waveguide having alternating open and short sidewalls. The analytical and simulated band structures testify consistently that OSB suppression can indeed be realized by proper design, analytically studied using mode-matching, and further supported by full-wave simulations. An LWA is then implemented using the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology, which provides interesting features such as a high directive...

Analytical study of Dirac type dispersion in simple periodic waveguide structures for leaky-wave applications

    Abstract
In this work, we present a study on the existence of Dirac type dispersion in the simplest of periodic metallic waveguide structures. It is shown that periodic repetitions of two dissimilar waveguides (WGs) can be properly designed to lead to a Dirac type dispersion. A simple theory using circuit modeling is presented to find the condition for Dirac point operation. In addition, mode-matching followed by full-wave simulations validate that the band structure matches that of the theory and shows that a Dirac dispersion can be realized. A Dirac Leaky-Wave Antenna (DLWA) is then implemented using this simple arrangement in substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW) technology. This DLWA has the...

Physics of broadband Brewster transmission through square array of rectangular metallic pillars

    , Article Journal of the Optical Society of America B: Optical Physics ; Volume 32, Issue 6 , 2015 , Pages 1202-1207 ; 07403224 (ISSN) Edalatipour, M ; Khavasi, A ; Mehrany, K ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The physics behind the broadband Brewster transmission through square arrays made of rectangular metallic pillars is explored by appealing to the effective medium theory. First, an analytical solution is given for the principal electromagnetic mode propagating between the pillars, and then, the mode matching technique is invoked to extract the parameters of the effective medium model. In this fashion, the pillars are homogenized via a diagonal anisotropic tensor and the effects of higher diffracted orders are included in the effective medium theory by attributing a surface conductivity to the surface boundary of the array. It is shown that the former effectuates the wideband Brewster effect...

    Abstract
The contour integral (CI) method is developed to analyze H-plane waveguide circuits filled with inhomogeneous dielectric such as circuits including full height dielectric posts. In order to reduce the computational costs, the multimode CI method, which considers the effect of higher order TEnO modes, is introduced and we present a hybrid method based on multimode CI and mode matching (MM) techniques. The accuracy of method is validated by comparison of results with those reported in literatures
