    Abstract
The final goal in a perforation operation is achieving the maximum production and reducing perforation damage, using optimal completion process. The Dynamic Underbalanced Perforation (DUP) as one of the more recent completion technologies minimizes or even eliminates the perforation crushed zone by optimizing the well's dynamic underbalance. Dynamic underbalance is a transient underbalance process that occurs immediately after creation of the perforation tunnels. The modeling of this process is essential in designing the optimal configuration of the perforation charges to evaluate the perforation efficiency. In this study we propose a novel and efficient numerical method, to optimize the...

Performance analysis of elliptic-profile airfoil cascade for designing reversible axial flow fans

    Abstract
Because reversible fans must be able to provide similar performance in either rotation direction, they need to have completely symmetrical blades. In the present study, an elliptic profile with itsmaximum thickness of 8%chord length at themiddle of the chord line is studied. For verification, theNACA0012 airfoilwas once analyzed two-dimensionally in the isolatedformationandonce in cascade formation with0.55 and 0.83 solidities, andthe obtainedresultswere comparedwith numerical and experimental results. Three well-known Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes turbulence models including Spalart-Allmaras, realizable κ-ϵ, and shear-stress transport κ-ω were used to find the suitable turbulence method....

    Abstract
This paper introduces a finite element model of Setar, a Persian long-necked lute. Setar is modeled as a transfer function between the imposed force on the bridge and the near-field resulted sound. Numerical modeling of stringed musical instruments is a computationally challenging task which has always been done with extreme simplifications. Phenomena such as fluid-structure interaction, composite structure, preload effect and infinite boundary are considered in this model. The cycle of Software used in here is CATIA, HyperMesh, Nastran, and HyperGraph. The frequency response between the force of string and generated sound in near field are obtained, taking into account the fluid inside and...

End bearing capacity of drilled shafts in sand: a numerical approach

    , Article Geotechnical and Geological Engineering ; Volume 27, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 195-206 ; 09603182 (ISSN) Ahmadi, M. M ; Khabbazian, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a modeling procedure is carried out to numerically analyze the end bearing capacity of drilled shafts in sand. The Mohr-Coulomb elastic plastic constitutive law with stress dependent elastic parameters is used for all numerical analyses performed in this study. The numerical results are compared with the available experimental equations. It is seen that numerical results are in good agreement with experimental equations. The variation of the end bearing capacity of drilled shafts versus embedment depth is also studied. Numerical results show that with increase in pile embedment depth, the end bearing capacity increases. However, the rate of increase becomes smaller as the pile...

Optimal behavior of hot water heating coils at steady conditions

    , Article 2008 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, IMECE 2008, Boston, MA, 31 October 2008 through 6 November 2008 ; Volume 10, Issue PART B , 2009 , Pages 1427-1432 ; 9780791848715 (ISBN) Mahboubi, D ; Saldi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Hot water heating coils are key components in air conditioning systems undergo heat transfer. The most widely used exchangers (coils) take the form of fin and tube configuration in association with the application of air conditioning systems. In this research, thermodynamic modeling and mathematical optimization of hot water heating coils at steady conditions, approaching minimum energy consumption are achieved. The modeling procedure for heating coils is done based on the log mean temperature difference (LMTD) method. The objective function for optimization is pressure drop of air crossing coil per heating load of the system. This unction comprises all thermal and geometrical parameters of...

Towards MPEG4 compatible face representation via hierarchical clustering-based facial feature extraction

    , Article ISCI 2011 - 2011 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Informatics ; 2011 , Pages 436-441 ; 9781612846903 (ISBN) Ghahari, A ; Mosleh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Multi-view imaging and display systems has taken a divide and conquer approach to 3D sensing and visualization. We aim to make more reliable and robust automatic feature extraction and natural 3D feature construction from 2D features detected on a pair of frontal and profile view face images. We propose several heuristic algorithms to minimize possible errors introduced by prevalent imperfect orthogonal condition and non-coherent luminance trying to address the problems incurred with illumination discrepancies on common surface points in accommodation of multi-views. In our approach, we first extract the 2D features that are visible to both cameras in both views. Then, we estimate the...
