    Abstract
Bolometric response and noise characteristics of YBCO superconductor transition edge IR detectors with relatively sharp transition and its resulting detectivity are investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The magnitude of response of a fabricated device was obtained for different bias currents and modulation frequencies. Also dependency of intrinsic noise of the device on the bias current in the vicinity of critical temperature was studied for various values of chopping frequencies. Using the measured and calculated bolometric response and noise characteristics, we found and analyzed the device detectivity versus frequency for different bias currents. The detectivity versus...

    Abstract
An area and power-efficient second order sigma-delta modulator is presented. At system level, we propose a new single-loop single-stage modulator that uses only one class-AB op-amp to realize a second order noise shaping for speech band applications. The modulator shows 86 dB DR in 4 kHz speech bandwidth. It consumes 125 μw from a 2.5 V supply

Optical isolation enabled by two time-modulated point perturbations in a ring resonator

    Abstract
In this paper we achieve non-reciprocity in a silicon optical ring resonator, by introducing two small time-modulated perturbations into the ring. Isolators are designed using this time-perturbed ring, side-coupled to waveguides. The underlying operation of the time-modulated ring and isolator is analyzed using Temporal Coupled Mode Theory (TCMT). The TCMT is used to find the angular distance, phase difference and thickness of the two time-modulated points on the ring resonator and also to find and justify the optimum values for the modulation frequency and amplitude, which yields maximum isolation in the isolator arrangements. Insight into the major players that determine isolation are also...

In this paper, a two channel abdominal PPG instrumentation is developed. The proposed instrument consists of IR-LED and its driver, photo-detector and data acquisition card. The modulation frequency generation, demodulation and digital signal processing is done completely in the digital domain using LabView. The results show that the developed instrument is able to acquire signal from the abdomen even at 4 cm source to detector separation. This instrument is intended for future application in trans-abdominal fetal heart rate detection. © 2008 Springer-Verlag

Analytical modelling of the interpixel thermal crosstalk in superconducting edge-transition bolometer arrays

    , Article Superconductor Science and Technology ; Volume 19, Issue 6 , 2006 , Pages 606-611 ; 09532048 (ISSN) Bozbey, A ; Fardmanesh, M ; Schubert, J ; Banzet, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
We present an analytical thermal model to explain the crosstalk in YBCO edge-transition bolometer arrays. The verification of the model was tested on sample array devices made of 200 and 400 nm YBCO films on LaAlO3 and SrTiO3 substrates. The model presented was able to explain the effects of the various physical parameters of the devices, such as the film thickness, operating temperature, and the device separation, which cause different response behaviours based on the variation of the related thermal crosstalk characteristics. In addition, the model is valid above the crosstalk-free modulation frequencies, where the effects of the thermal crosstalk on the response of the devices are...

    Abstract
We investigate the possibility of frequency conversion in time-varying metasurfaces, composed of graphene microribbon arrays (GMRAs) with time-periodic modulation of their conductivity. We present a quasi-static model for the interaction of light with a temporally modulated metasurface, as well as an accurate analytical treatment of the problem of time-varying GMRAs. Results coming from numerical simulations are also available. We provide corrections to a previous related proposal for frequency conversion and refute the possibility of attaining frequency shifts not equal to an integral multiple of modulation frequency. Contrary to the preceding results, our findings show that efficient...

    Abstract
The effect of substrate thickness and its Debye temperature on the bolometric response of the freestanding-membrane type of superconductor transition-edge detectors is investigated. The investigation is based on the calculation of the variation of the specific heat per unit volume and the heat conductivity using the finite-size scaling method for different Debye temperatures and micron size thickness of substrate. We also calculated the heat capacity and time constant for various materials with Debye temperatures in the range of 600-1400 K. The calculated results are compared with previously reported response values obtained theoretically and experimentally for the thermal-based infrared...

A frequency domain proof for the equivalence of the maximally flat FIR fractional delay filter and the Lagrange interpolator

    , Article Digital Signal Processing: A Review Journal ; Volume 21, Issue 1 , 2011 , Pages 13-16 ; 10512004 (ISSN) Jahani Yekta, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
One of the most important properties of the maximally flat (MF) FIR fractional delay (FD) filter is its equivalence with the Lagrange interpolator for uniformly sampled signals. In this article, to provide the required background for the reader, we first propose a straightforward algebraic proof for this equivalence. This proof is given by simply demonstrating that the system of linear equations governing the maximally flatness property of this filter is the same as the one from which the coefficients of the Lagrange interpolator are computed. We then present the main contribution of the paper, which is a frequency domain proof for the same equivalence. In contrast with its classic...

Investigation of CeO2 buffer layer effects on the voltage response of YBCO transition-edge bolometers

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity ; Volume 26, Issue 3 , 2016 ; 10518223 (ISSN) Mohajeri, R ; Nazifi, R ; Wulff, A. C ; Vesaghi, M. A ; Grivel, J. C ; Fardmanesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The effect on the thermal parameters of superconducting transition-edge bolometers produced on a single crystalline SrTiO3 (STO) substrate with and without a CeO2 buffer layer was investigated. Metal-organic deposition was used to deposit the 20-nm CeO2 buffer layer, whereas RF magnetron sputtering was applied to fabricate 150-nm-thick superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-δ (YBCO) thin film. The critical transition temperature for both of the YBCO films was 90 K, and the transition width was ∼1.9 K. The bolometers fabricated from these samples were characterized with respect to the voltage phase and amplitude responses, and the results were compared with that of simulations conducted by applying a...

    , Article Optical Engineering ; Vol. 53, issue. 12 , 2014 ; ISSN: 00913286 Jafari, O ; Akbari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The theory of silicon optical modulators of ring resonators based on PN diode in reverse bias is primarily discussed. It secondarily provides a full-featured simulator to investigate the behavior of such modulators. Wave equation for ring structure will be solved by using the conformal transformation method and the matrix method as it was used to analyze bent planar optical waveguides. Power coupling between ring and straight waveguides will be calculated by coupled theory of nonparallel waveguides based on experimental results. The time response demonstrates the capability of this device to operate correctly at up to 10 Gbs-1 bitrate, and the frequency spectrum analysis of device shows a >...

On the contribution of circumferential resonance modes in acoustic radiation force experienced by cylindrical shells

    , Article Journal of Sound and Vibration ; Vol. 333, issue. 22 , October , 2014 , p. 5746-5761 Rajabi, M ; Behzad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A body insonified by a constant (time-varying) intensity sound field is known to experience a steady (oscillatory) force that is called the steady-state (dynamic) acoustic radiation force. Using the classical resonance scattering theorem (RST) which suggests the scattered field as a superposition of a resonance field and a background (non-resonance) component, we show that the radiation force acting on a cylindrical shell may be synthesized as a composition of three components: background part, resonance part and their interaction. The background component reveals the pure geometrical reflection effects and illustrates a regular behavior with respect to frequency, while the others...

Using the measured and calculated bolometric response and noise characteristics, we found and analyzed the device detectivity versus frequency for different bias currents. The detectivity versus chopping frequency of the device did not decrease following the response strongly, due to the decrease of the noise at higher frequencies up to 1 kHz, resulting in...

    Abstract
We report on the response of a monolithic high Tc transition-edge bolometer to about 3 mmWave for the first time. The detector structure consisting of 400-nm YBa2Cu3O7-x(YBCO) film on buffered yttria stabilized zirconia substrate without any coupled antenna, shows bolometric type responsivity to the 3-mmWave radiation at its transition temperature. The YBCO thin film Ce0.9La0.1O2 buffer layer are both fabricated by the metal-organic deposition method. The meander line pattern of the bolometer is designed for obtaining maximum absorption and responsivity possible when the polarized radiation of the source is aligned with the pattern. Meander lines are 50 micrometers wide and 1.5-mm long. We...

The applicability of the resulting film as an infrared sensor is reported here. The optical response in the range of near infrared and the noise characteristics of the patterned bolometer are measured and analyzed. The dependence of device sensitivity on the bias current and modulation frequency is also investigated. As it is presented in this paper, the results...

    Abstract
We present a new approach for analytical modeling and calculating the response of high-Tc superconductive transition edge sensors in a wide range of modulation frequencies for different configurations of the film patterns. The method used here is based on solving the heat transfer differential equation for two different time varying heat sources, which are related to the absorbed radiated power. The used method employs two-dimensional boundary conditions for describing meander-line patterned devices. The results from the applied method are in better agreement with those obtained from the frequency response measurements of the characterized samples, than the previously developed models. In...

Nonlinear dynamic analysis of a V-shaped microcantilever of an atomic force microscope

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 35, Issue 12 , 2011 , Pages 5903-5919 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Kahrobaiyan, M. H ; Rahaeifard, M ; Ahmadian, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper is devoted to investigate the nonlinear behaviors of a V-shaped microcantilever of an atomic force microscope (AFM) operating in its two major modes: amplitude modulation and frequency modulation. The nonlinear behavior of the AFM is due to the nonlinear nature of the AFM tip-sample interaction caused by the Van der Waals attraction/repulsion force. Considering the V-shaped microcantilever as a flexible continuous system, the resonant frequencies, mode shapes, governing nonlinear partial and ordinary differential equations (PDE and ODE) of motion, boundary conditions, frequency and time responses, potential function and phase-plane of the system are obtained analytically. The...
