Synthesis of Magnetically Recyclable Core-shell Nanocatalysts for Epoxidation of Alkenes and Reduction of Sulfoxide to Sulfides and Oxygen Atom transfer by Mo(VI) Complexes

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Haghdoost Manjili, Mohammad Mehdi (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the first part of this thesis, the application of core-shell magnetic nanoparticles supported V(V), Mo(VI) and Mn(III) complexes in the catalytic oxidation and reduction reactions was discussed. A magnetically recyclable vanadium(V) catalyst was synthesized by covalent anchoring of VO(salen)Cl on silica coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles. These nanoparticles were efficient catalysts for selective oxidation of sulfides to corresponding sulfoxides with urea hydrogen peroxide in excellent yields. Leaching and recycling experiments revealed that the nanocatalyst can be applied for nearly complete oxidation of sulfides for at least five successive cycles. A manganese(III) complex was immobilized on...

Synthesis and Characterization of Mo(VI)–Schiff Base Complexes and Study its Catalytic Application in Homogenous and Hetrogenous Systems for Epoxidation of Olefins

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Riyazifar, Mitra (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project a novel molybdenum(VI) complex with tridentate Schiff base ligand which is soluble in water was synthesized and characterized. In the first step of complex synthesis, chloromethylation of salicylaldehyde was carried out and then, corresponding pyridine salt prepared in the second step. Ligand N-[(3-pyridinium chloride) salicylidene]-2-aminophenol was formed by reaction with aminophenol. In the presence of MoO2(acac)₂ the final product, cis-dioxo(N- (3-pyridinumchloride)salicylidene]-2-aminophenolato)ethanol olybdenum(VI) complex synthesized. The complex was characterized by CHN elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods UV, NMR and FT-IR.We used a high-yield (80-98%) and...

Heterogenization of Ionic Complexes of Mo(VI) with Sulfonated Schiff Base Ligands on the Polysiloxane as Support for Catalytic Epoxidation of Olefins

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadabadi, Hadiseh (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project a new molybdenum (VI) complex with tetradentate Schiff base ligand which was soluble in water was synthesized and characterized. In the first step of ligand synthesis, the reaction was performed between salicylaldehyde and aniline, and then used concentrated sulfuric acid for sulfonation. In the next step 5- sulfosalicylaldehyde sodium salt was formed by removing of aniline with heating and using sodium carbonate. In the presence of ethylendiamine and bis (acetylacetonato) dioxomolybdenum(VI) the final product, cis-dioxo sodium (N,N-bis (5-sulfonatosalicyldene)1,2-diaminoethane) molybdenum (VI) complex was synthesized. The complex was characterized by (CHN) elemental...

Immobilized Manganese-porphyrin and Molybdenum-Schiff Base Complexes on Functionalized Magnetic Nanoparticles as Efficient Recyclable Nanocatalysts in Hydrocarbon and Sulfide Oxidation Reactions

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Mortazavi Manesh, Anahita (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles have been utilized as a support for immobilization of homogeneous catalysts. The catalytic activity of the supported heterogeneous nanocatalysts was investigated in hydrocarbon and sulfide oxidation reactions. In the first part of this research, imidazole functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2-Im) were used as a support to anchor manganese porphyrin complex, [MnT(4-OMeP)P]OAc; via axial ligation. Catalytic application of the immobilized manganese porphyrin was studied in oxidation of alkenes and sulfides. To find suitable reaction conditions, the effect of different parameters such as solvent and temperature on immobilization process...

Oxidative Degradation of Methylene Blue by Nano-Sized Particles of Metal Oxides and Synthesis, Characterization and Catalytic Activity of Novel Mo and Fe Complexes in Oxidation Reactions

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Khaksar, Mostafa (Author) ; Mohammadi Boghaei, Davar (Supervisor) ; Amini, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the first part of this thesis, the application of metal oxide nanoparticles in oxidative degradation of methylene blue is discussed. Nanoparticles of manganese tungstate (MnWO4) were prepared via an impregnation method using Mn(NO3)2.4H2O and WO3 as a source of Mn and W, respectively. The morphology of the manganese tungstate nanoparticles was studied in detail by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). MnWO4 nanoparticles showed severe catalytic performance for the degradation of organic dye (methylene blue) in the presence of tertiary-butyl hydrogen peroxide, TBHP, as the oxidant at room temperature in water. Mn doped ZnO...

Synthesis and Characterization of Cis-dioxomolybdenum(VI) Complex with an ONO Type Tridentate Schiff base Ligand and its Application as Catalyst for Epoxidation of Olefins

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ataie, Saeed (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A new dioxomolybdenum(VI) complex, (Cis-[MoO2(L)])n, has been synthesized by reacting 4-bromo-2-((2-hydroxy-5-methylphenylimino)methyl)phenol as a ligand and [MoO2(acac)2] in methanolic solution. For characterization and structure determination of the synthesized complex, different techniques were performed such as elemental analyses, 1H NMR, IR, UV-Vis and X-ray crystallography. The complex was tested as a catalyst for the homogeneous epoxidation of olefins, using tert-butyl hydperoxide (TBHP) as an oxidant. The catalytic system showed high yield, selectivity and turnover number in olefin epoxidation reactions under atmospheric conditions. For example, when the molar ratio of catalyst,...
