Dynamics Modeling and Control of Mooring Lines While Cargo Vessels Loading

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rasa, Roya (Author) ; Sayyadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
large ships should only make very small horizontal movements at the berth for efficient loading. This is especially a concern in ports facing the open ocean directly, where high swells at sea can cause harbor oscillations and low-frequency surge motions of the ship. A developed mooring unit, the MoorMaster, which replaces conventional mooring lines is addressed here. The hydraulics of the system have a strong reducing effect on the motions of the moored ship. Measurements have shown that the surge motion of container ships was reduced from an amplitude in the order of 1 metre to an amplitude in the order of 5 centimetres, by using MoorMaster units. In here MoorMaster action is divided to two...

Basic Design of Mooring Automatic Control System in Mooring Vessels

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghpoor, Omid (Author) ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Madjid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most significant challenges and issues that port engineers and coastal specialists face in the field of improving port performance is the design and development of hardware systems to enhance the efficiency of loading and unloading operations of ships. These systems need to be designed in a way that reduces the duration of loading and unloading operations of ships and improves the efficiency of cranes. One efficient technology in this field is the Automatic Mooring Systems, which are connected to the hull of berthed ships and use hydraulic cylinders to generate control forces. On the other hand, as evident in today's world, artificial intelligence is recognized as a vital and key...

Experimental investigation on response and efficiency of moored pontoon type floating breakwaters

    , Article Iranian Journal of Science and Technology, Transaction B: Engineering ; Volume 31, Issue 1 , 2007 , Pages 95-99 ; 03601307 (ISSN) Behzad, M ; Akbari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
This paper presents the experimental results of an investigation on the response and efficiency of floating pontoon type breakwaters. Random waves modeled by the Pierson Moskowits wave spectrum are used for various configurations of floating breakwaters. The experimental results are presented in graphs for the transmission coefficient as a function of incident wave length and height for breakwaters used in this study. The obtained results for the breakwaters of this study show that by increasing the wave period and length, the transmission coefficient increases, while increase in the mass and draft of the floating breakwater causes the transmission coefficient to reduce. © Shiraz University

The optimum mooring configuration with minimum sensitivity to removing a mooring line for a semi-submersible platform

    , Article Applied Ocean Research ; Volume 114 , 2021 ; 01411187 (ISSN) Tabeshpour, M. R ; Seyed Abbasian, S. M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
Mooring lines may be damaged under severe conditions during the life of an offshore platform. In the event of a mooring failure, it is possible to break remaining mooring lines in a severe condition, which ultimately leads to the total structural failure; Therefore, the post-failure analysis is very important for the mooring system. In this study, the Amir-Kabir semi-submersible platform has been modeled which is installed in 700 m’ depth of the Caspian Sea, and random waves have been generated towards the structure in the form of the JONSWAP wave spectrum according to the conditions of the Caspian Sea. For analysis, four different mooring configurations have been considered. Then, in each...

    Abstract
Hydrodynamic analysis of semi-submersible offshore structures has been the topic of many researches performed numerically and experimentally in the past. In this paper, the effect of structure alignment and mooring lines on dynamic behaviour of semi-submersible platforms has been taken into account. The contribution of pitch and roll in heave motion of side points is also investigated. Mooring lines are connected to semi-submersible at sides and therefore total displacement of side points is related to total displacement of mooring lines and total tension as well. A three dimensional boundary element model of Amirkabir platform in Caspian Sea is implemented using boundary element method...

Lubricating flow of thixotropic fluids in slipper-pad bearing: A numerical study

    , Article Nihon Reoroji Gakkaishi ; Volume 39, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 153-158 ; 03871533 (ISSN) Najmi, K ; Karimzadeh, M ; Sadeghy, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Laminar, two-dimensional flow of an incompressible thixotropic fluid obeying Moore's model is investigated numerically in a slipper-pad bearing using FVM method. Results will be presented addressing the effect of thixotropic properties and inclination angle on the pressure distribution and load-carrying capacity of the bearing. It is shown that the pressure distribution under the upper pad depends only on the buildup-to-breakdown ratio. It is also predicted that by increasing this ratio, the load-carrying capacity increases, but, the pressure distribution becomes more and more asymmetric with the maximum pressure shifting towards the outlet section of the bearing. Also, for any given set of...

Dark silicon and the history of computing

    , Article Advances in Computers ; Volume 110 , 2018 , Pages 1-33 ; 00652458 (ISSN); 9780128153581 (ISBN) Lotfi Kamran, P ; Sarbazi Azad, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
For many years, computer designers benefitted from Moore's law and Dennard scaling to significantly improve the speed of single-core processors. The failure of Dennard scaling pushed the computer industry toward homogenous multicore processors for the performance improvement to continue without significant increase in power consumption. Unfortunately, even homogeneous multicore processors cannot offer the level of energy efficiency required to operate all the cores at the same time in today's and especially tomorrow's technologies. As a result of lack of energy efficiency, not all the cores in a multicore processor can be functional at the same time. This phenomenon is referred to as dark...

Stability analysis of a CALM floating offshore structure

    , Article International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics ; Volume 36, Issue 6 , 2001 , Pages 917-926 ; 00207462 (ISSN) Esmailzadeh, E ; Goodarzi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2001
    Abstract
It has been shown that there exists the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of stable periodic response for a type of catenary anchor leg mooring system, (CALM). The mathematical model shows that the governing equation of motion for the system is a non-linear parametric second-order ordinary differential equation. The above-mentioned conditions have been obtained using the Schauder's fixed-point theorem. The validity of the assumptions has been fully demonstrated by analyzing a few examples. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd

The Optimal Catenary Mooring Arrangement for Least Sensitivity to Single Mooring Line Broken in Semi-Submersible Platform

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seyed Abbassian, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Tabeshpour, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The discovery of oil and gas resources in deep waters led to the invention of various platforms adapted to these waters. As the search for oil and gas resources is advanced to deep water, it is impossible to use fixed platforms in these depths. Hence, the idea of using floating platforms that can be used in deep waters has been increasingly considered. An option for the exploration and extraction of offshore oil resources is semi-submersible platforms. Under wave, wind, and current forces, a floating structure moves from its initial location. Types of mooring systems are used to maintain the position of the platform. During the life of a platform, mooring lines may be damaged under...

    Abstract
Nowadays networks-on-chip are emerging as a hot topic in IC designs with high integration. Much research has been done in this field of study recently, e.g. in routing algorithms, switching methods, VLSI Layout, and effects of resource allocation on system performance. On the other hand, three-dimensional integrated circuits allow a time-warp for Moore's Law. By vertically stacking two or more silicon wafers, connected with a high-density, high-speed interconnect, it is now possible to combine multiple active device layers within a single IC. In this paper, we examine performance and power consumption in a three dimensional network-on-chip structure under different types of traffic loads,...

    Interval Methods for Global Optimization

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bedrosian, Narbeh (Author) ; Mahdavi Amiri, Nezameddin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
We explain new interval methods, recently introduced in the literature, for solving unconstrained and constrained global optimization problems. The strategy is characterized by a subdivision of the argument intervals of the expression and a recomputation of the expression with these new intervals. By varying the selection and termination criteria, we explain new variants. These methods are used to solve problems with an objective function that has possibly a large number of local minima and constraints that may be nonlinear or nonconvex. We describe algorithms that return global minima and points at which the objective function is within a defined distance from the global minima. Numerical...

Model Test to Evaluate Behavior of Seastar Platform in Waves

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kiany, Ali (Author) ; Tabeshpour, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Tension leg platforms (TLP) are vertically moored with reserved buoyancy used for drilling and production in deep waters. Pre-tensioned tendons controls the heave, pitch and roll motions due to marine currents and waves efficiently. Seastar platforms are new generation of tension leg platforms that are similar to spar platforms that has the advantages of TLP besides spar simultaneously. This platform is usually considered as an alternative for large and cost consuming platforms. Seastar has a cylindrical surface piercing hull that creates the required buoyancy along with three submerged additional bodies. Pre-tensioned cables are attached to platform through these three submerged bodies. The...

    Abstract
A Tension Leg Platform (TLP) can be difined as a vertically moored, buoyant and compliant platform, where the excess buoyancy of the platform maintains tension in the mooring system (tethers). This platform type is usually used for drilling in deep water and includes the following sections, foundation, tendons, risers, hull and deck which is the most important section in terms of hydrodynamic forces and weight. Enough initial tension can be used to inhibit vertical movement of the structure. one of The main properties of this oil platform is extraction at large oil fields. Body of TLP is consist of vertical column, horizontal circular or rectangular cross section Pantoons and circular...

Modeling Possibility of Deep Water Spar Platform by Considering Depth Limitation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alipour Sarabi, Vahid (Author) ; Tabeshpour, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Every day requirements for oil, gas and exploration in deep water have pushed offshore industries into deeper water. Oil production is expensive, so a designed platform should be cost saving. The clear and logical part is that, testing a model will be an important part of these kind of researches. In this thesis we are trying to obtain numerical results from ANSYS AQWA and experimental results for surge, heave and pitch motions, then compare experimental results with numerical one. Second order effects are ignored in designs and experiments because of laboratory conditions and limits that we are faced with in there. 1/250 scale ratio has been chosen because of limits. First we get into...

    Abstract
Designing of giant oil platforms in deep seas is one of the most important challenges of the country’s oil industry. The valuable reservoirs of oil and gas in caspian sea, increases the need of designing platforms for drilling these regions. One of the platforms which is drilling in this region, is Amirkabir platform. In this research, at first this platform is modelled in AQWA software and analyzed. This analysis includes finding loads acting on the platform and consequently RAOs of different degrees of freedom in different directions and also the time history of motions of the platform and tensions in its mooring cables. Motions of moored floating platform consists of two types of motions....

Exprimental and Numerical Analysis of Tlp Floating Offshore Wind Turbine with one Tendon Failure

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Helalat, Zeynab (Author) ; Tabeshpour, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Offshore wind energy is widely recognized as a renewable energy source that has the potential as a global energy source. Although the use of coastal wind turbines has been successful, it has been challenged in terms of visual, acoustic and environmental impacts. In addition, in terms of technology, it is difficult to achieve high levels of energy from coastal wind resources due to low annual average speed; Therefore, the wind energy industry is trying to make more use of the deep-water wind resources. However, before developing these types of deep-water turbines, economic challenges and technical problems must be resolved. Mooring failure is one of the major issues in the design of offshore...

, Article Proceedings - 7th International Conference on Intelligent Information Hiding and Multimedia Signal Processing, IIHMSP 2011 ; 2011 , Pages 165-168 ; 9780769545172 (ISBN) Shojaei Hashemi, A ; Mehdipour-Ghazi, M ; Ghaemmaghami, S ; Soltanian Zadeh, H ; IEEE; IEEE Tainan Section; Tainan Chapter of IEEE Signal Process Society; National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences (K.U.A.S.); Dalian University of Technology; Dalian Ocean University ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A passive universal image steganalysis method is proposed that is shown to be of higher detection accuracy than existing truly blind steganalysis methods including Farid's and the WAM. This is achieved by improving some weaknesses of Farid's steganalysis scheme in feature extraction, that is, instead of deriving an over-determined equation system for each sub band of the wavelet decomposition, the sub bands are divided into overlapping blocks and an over-determined equation system is constructed for each block. To guarantee the existence of finite answers, the over-determined equation systems are solved in a way different from Farid's by using Moore-Penrose pseudo-inverse concept. Further...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Anvari, Hojjat (Author) ; Khorasanchi, Mahdi (Supervisor) ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Majid (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
For the stability of floating solar PV power plants against environmental forces and the safety of operators during maintenance and repair, the mooring system ought to be designed based on the position of the plant, the size of the plant, and weather conditions. Floating solar PV power plants are mostly located in reservoirs with significant water level variations, or in some cases in inland seas where changes in water level are the most important challenge in their mooring system. In this project, different methods to overcome the water level variations have been studied and finally, a creative idea which covers the weaknesses of previous ones has been represented. By using programming...
