Evolution of pore-scale morphology of oil shale during pyrolysis: a quantitative analysis

    , Article Transport in Porous Media ; Volume 119, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 143-162 ; 01693913 (ISSN) Rabbani, A ; Baychev, T. G ; Ayatollahi, S ; Jivkov, A. P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Changes of morphological parameters of oil shale under thermal conditions are investigated. Analyses are based on 26 micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) images of Green River immature shale rock available under creative commons license. Several image processing and characterization algorithms are applied to sequential high-resolution micro-CT images of oil shale samples undergoing pyrolysis. Pore-scale morphology is extracted and quantified, providing results for pore size, throat size, grain size, specific surface, coordination number, and fracture aperture. The results demonstrate critical increases of porosity, coordination number and fracture aperture in the temperature range from 390...

    Abstract
To overcome recent energy and environment challenges, developing efficient and low cost photocatalysts are unavoidable. In this context, design of semiconductor nanostructures modified with earth abundant co-catalysts for water splitting reactions requires well engineered and controlled process to optimize surface interface and maximize nanocomposite system efficiency. Here, TiO2 nanotube were synthesized electrochemically and decorated with cobalt based nanostructure co-catalyst for water oxidation reaction using low cost and scalable electro-deposition approach. By changing deposition parameters and complete studying on samples surface morphology and related statistical analysis data,...

Dual ideal shear strengths for chiral single-walled carbon nanotubes

    , Article International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics ; Volume 120 , 2020 Delfani, M. R ; mohamadi Shodja, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
By considering a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) as a two-dimensional elastica obtained from the roll-up of a graphene sheet into a circular tube, the present paper develops a precise well-posed continuum theory for describing the entire torsional behavior of SWCNTs from an initial unloaded state through their ultimate levels of loading. In addition, the proposed approach can capture the dual ideal shear strengths as well as the asymmetrical behavior of chiral tubes with respect to the direction of the applied torsional loading. The theory incorporates a highly nonlinear constitutive equation which provides information about the nanoscopic morphological parameters of the tubes. As it...

The effect of thickness and film homogeneity on the optical and microstructures of the ZrO2 thin films prepared by electron beam evaporation method

    , Article Optical and Quantum Electronics ; Volume 53, Issue 8 , 2021 ; 03068919 (ISSN) Shakoury, R ; Talebani, N ; Zelati, A ; Ţălu, Ş ; Arman, A ; Mirzaei, S ; Jafari, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, ZrO2 coatings with different thicknesses were grown by the electron beam evaporation technique. The crystalline structure was studied by XRD analysis which suggested the tetragonal and monoclinic phases for ZrO2 coatings. Additionally, the film thickness slightly enhanced the crystallinity. The surface morphology and fractal features were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The surface statistical parameters and the fractal geometry were employed to analyze the impact of the coating thickness and homogeneity on the morphology of the films. The statistical processing and fractal dimension revealed variations in the morphology parameters due to the electron beam...

Polybutylene terephthalate-nickel oxide nanocomposite as a fiber coating

    , Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Volume 863, Issue 1 , 2015 , Pages 20-28 ; 00032670 (ISSN) Bagheri, H ; Roostaie, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2015
    Abstract
A highly efficient polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)-based nanocomposite containing nickel oxide nanoparticles was synthesized by electrospinning technique and used as a fiber coating for solid phase microextraction. The influential morphological parameters and capability of the prepared nanocomposite including the NiO content, the coating time, the PBT concentration and applied voltage were considered for optimization. The applicability of the synthesized fiber coating was examined by headspace solid phase micro extraction and gas chromatography mass spectrometry detection of some volatile organic compounds in aqueous samples. Among the synthesized nanocomposites and pristine PBT nanofibers,...
