Ranking locations for producing hydrogen using geothermal energy in Afghanistan

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 45, Issue 32 , 2020 , Pages 15924-15940 Mostafaeipour, A ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. J ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Geothermal energy is a type of renewable energy with high availability and independence from climatic and atmospheric conditions. It has been shown that geothermal energy is technically, economically and environmentally more suitable for hydrogen production than other renewable sources. Hydrogen has wide applications in many fields including cooling, oil, gas, petrochemical, nuclear, and energy industries. Afghanistan has significant potential in geothermal power generation and also several hydrogen-consuming industries that provide opportunities for geothermal-based hydrogen production. This study attempted to find suitable locations for the construction of geothermal power plant for...

Multi-objective selection and structural optimization of the gantry in a gantry machine tool for improving static, dynamic, and weight and cost performance

    , Article Concurrent Engineering Research and Applications ; Volume 24, Issue 1 , 2016 , Pages 83-93 ; 1063293X (ISSN) Besharati, S. R ; Dabbagh, V ; Amini, H ; Sarhan, A. A. D ; Akbari, J ; Hamdi, M ; Ong, Z. C ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this investigation, the multi-objective selection and optimization of a gantry machine tool is achieved by analytic hierarchy process, multi-objective genetic algorithm, and Pareto-Edgeworth-Grierson-multi-criteria decision-making method. The objectives include maximum static deformation, the first four natural frequencies, mass, and fabrication cost of the gantry. Further structural optimization of the best configuration was accomplished using multi-objective genetic algorithm to improve all objectives except cost. The result of sensitivity analysis reveals the major contribution of columns of gantry with respect to the crossbeam's contribution. After determining the most effective...

Bioethanol supply chain network design considering land characteristics

    , Article Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews ; Volume 119 , 2020 Rahemi, H ; Torabi, S. A ; Avami, A ; Jolai, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
Biomass is becoming an increasingly widespread source of energy. Yet land, as one of the most important resources in biomass production, is surprisingly understudied in the literature of biomass supply chain planning. This study proposes a novel framework that combines the literature of bioethanol supply chain design with agricultural land planning to simultaneously address optimal supply chain planning and sustainable land use in a bioethanol supply chain. A bi-objective mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is proposed to formulate the optimal design and planning of a bioethanol supply chain network considering competition of food and biomass feedstock over the available croplands....

Wastewater treatment technology selection using a hybrid multicriteria decision-making method

    Abstract
Various technological methods are available for industrial wastewater treatment (WWT), ranging from conventional to advanced treatment processes. It is therefore a complex exercise to select the most appropriate technology to treat the industrial wastewater in a particular situation. Many criteria can be considered in the decision-making process; therefore, multicriteria decision-making methods are especially appropriate for solving this problem. In this paper, we aim to select the most appropriate municipal WWT technology for agricultural usages. We propose a new hybrid methodology based on the best–worst method (BWM) and the behavioral technique for order of preference by similarity to the...

Locating wind farm for power and hydrogen production based on Geographic information system and multi-criteria decision making method: An application

    , Article International Journal of Hydrogen Energy ; Volume 47, Issue 58 , 2022 , Pages 24569-24583 ; 03603199 (ISSN) Hosseini Dehshiri, S. S ; Hosseini Dehshiri, S. J ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Hydrogen generation from renewable energy resources is considered as a suitable solution to solve the problems related to the energy sector and the reduction of greenhouse gases. The aim of this study is to provide an integrated framework for identifying suitable areas for the construction of wind farms to produce hydrogen. For this purpose, a combined method of Geographic Information System (GIS) and multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) has been used to locate the power plant in Yazd province. The GIS method in the present study consisted of two parts: constraints and criteria. The constraint section included areas that were unsuitable for the construction of wind farms to produce power...

Multi-objective economic-statistical design of simple linear profiles using a combination of NSGA-II, RSM, and TOPSIS

    , Article Communications in Statistics: Simulation and Computation ; Volume 51, Issue 4 , 2022 , Pages 1704-1720 ; 03610918 (ISSN) Roshanbin, N ; Ershadi, M. J ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A multi-objective economic-statistical design is aimed in this article for simple linear profiles. In this design, the interval between two successive sampling intervals, the sample size and the number of adjustment points alongside, the parameters of the monitoring scheme are determined such that not only the implementation cost is minimized, but also the profile exhibits desired statistical performances. To this aim, three objective functions are considered in the multi-objective optimization model of the problem. The Lorenzen–Vance cost function is used to model the implementation cost as the first objective function to be minimized. The second objective function maximizes the in-control...
